An Unlikely Companion is a collection of powerful work hand-picked by editor Brian James Lewis from works submitted to Spark: A Creative Anthology. Imaginative, gripping, and at times transgressive, these selections often fell outside Spark's guidelines or audience goals and yet, each was compelling and deserved publication.

The pieces in this collection are included by personal invitation from Brian.

The first author invited to participate in this project was Travis Hubbs, a professor of English and a PhD candidate at Louisiana State University. His passion and enthusiasm for writing fiction inspired many others and continues to do so. This collection is published in his memory.

Excerpt from Sea-Weeds, Shells and FossilsAlgæ, popularly known as sea-weeds, although many species are inhabitants of fresh water, or grow on moist ground, may be briefly described as cellular, flowerless plants, having no proper roots, but imbibing nutrients by their whole surface from the medium in which they grow. As far as has been ascertained, the total number of species is about 9000 or 10,000. Many of them are microscopic, as the Desmids and Diatoms, others, as Lessonia, and some of the larger Laminarise (oarweeds), are arborescent, covering the bed of the sea around the coast with a submarine forest; while in the Pacific, off the northwestern shores of America, Nereocystis, a genus allied to Laminaria, has a stem over 300 feet in length, which, although not thicker than whipcord, is stout enough to moor a bladder, barrel-shaped, six or seven feet long, and crowned with a tuft of fifty leaves or more, each from thirty to forty feet in length. This vegetable buoy is a favourite resting place of the sea otter; and where the plant exists in any quantity, the surface of the sea is rendered impassable to boats. The stem of Macrocystis, which "girds the globe in the southern temperate zone," is stated to extend sometimes to the enormous length of 1500 feet. It is no thicker than the finger anywhere, and the upper branches are as slender as pack-thread; but at the base of each leaf there is placed a buoy, in the shape of a vesicle filled with air.Although the worthlessness of Algæ has been proverbial, as in the "alga inutile" of Horace and Virgil's "projecta vilior alga," they are not without importance in botanical economics. A dozen or more species found in the British seas are made use of, raw or prepared in several ways, as food for man. Of these edible Algæ, Dr. Harvey considers the two species of Porphyra, or laver, the most valuable.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. I enjoyed expanding my horizons and learning a lot about sea-weeds and shells By Ali Julia This book is really two books. One is everything you ever wanted to know about sea weeds, and the second one is about shell collecting.SEA-WEEDThe sea weed book is divided into two section. The first contains a lot information about sea weed. The second half is aimed at the collector of algae. What one needs, where to find it, how best to collect it.Sea weed is a very interesting organism. Sea-weeds is a cellular, flowerless plants, having roots that obtains nutriment by their whole surface from the medium in which they grow. Amazingly, the variety of species is between 9000 and 10,000. They vary from microscopic to huge. For example, the stem of Macrocystis is extends to the enormous length of 1500 feet. They have amazing adaptations, for example, at the base of each leaf of Macrocystic there is a growth that can best described as a buoy, a vesicle filled with air. A dozen or more species, raw or prepared in several ways, are used as food for people. Sea weed contain iodine and is used as medicine.Seaweed classification was devised by Professor Harvey, the names come from the prevailing colour of their spores.1. Chlorospermeæ, with green spores;2. Rhodospermeæ, with red spores; and3. Melanospermeæ, with olive-coloured spores. The book goes into great details about each group of sea weed. The second half of the book addresses of all aspects of collecting, where to find sea-weeds, how to preserve them, what tools will be useful, how to preserve your collection.I never realized there was much to sea-weeds and enjoyed expanding my horizons!SHELL COLLECTINGWho has not collected shells as youngster? This book, however, takes a very serious approach to collecting shells and goes into details on where to find then, identifying them, how to clean them from their dwellers, how to preserve them, how to mount then, how to arrange them. This is a very serious book about shell collecting!I really enjoyed a scientific approach and learned a lot things I did not know before.Ali Julia review

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Tank Police: Episode 2 1/2 By J. Alford From Masumune Shirow(creator of APPLESEED)comes this special "filler" story to the original DOMINION: TANK POLICE video series. This manga happens inbetween the two parts of the OVA, namely eps. 2 & 3. Here, it is the not too far off future where Earth is covered by a bacteria cloud that forces everyone to wear gas masks while outdoors. In this hostile enviroment, crimes are commonplace, and to fight this is the Tank Police. They're your average special forces task squad that patrol the streets in large tanks. Except one tank in particular is custom-made and compact, Bonaparte. This is piloted by the tomboy Leona and her would be boyfriend Al. They usually have their hands full with the criminal/activist cyborg Buaka and his catgirl playmates: Annapuma and Unapuma. Their capturing of the synthetic lifeform, Greenpeace, may be the only hope humanity has of lifting the bacteria cloud. But Buaka plans on heading for outer space to live life on a new colony. Can Leona and her squad stop them? Will the chief ever stop yelling "BRENTEN"? See Shirow's masterwork in action to find out.P.S. This little baby is actually a prelude into the GHOST IN THE SHELL manga. No kidding!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Masamune Shirow's best story By Steven Myers This may be heresy, but I think this is by far the strongest actual *story* by Shirow. His other works--Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, among others--are beautifully illustrated, but get bogged down in technical arcana. This book is much more straightforward. The art is still gorgeous (especially the 8 or so color pages at the start), so this book scores on all counts. The core of the story is police using tanks to hunt a criminal. The subplots give the book its charm, with a host of characters (particularly the lovestruck meter maids) zipping about on their cleverly-interwoven agendas. Also, for those who haven't read the original Dominion story, Shirow notes that he wants readers to think of Dominion Conflict as entirely separate. This book is entirely worth special ordering, as it is wonderful and almost impossible to find.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Why Can't More Manga Be Like This? By Zon||Eidolon Masamune Shirow is one of the best manga authors working in the business today: he's funny, intelligent, and draws detailed artwork that will make your eyes scream in orgiastic ecstasy. That being said, however, I approached "Dominion: Conflict" with some trepidation at first and even held off on buying it for a good while after reading the original "Dominion". Why? Well, my experience with Shirow doing sequels had not been very good before; I read and enjoyed the original "Ghost in the Shell" but when the time came to read the sequel I was disappointed. "Ghost in the Shell 2: Panty-Crotch Interface" saw Shirow completely giving over to his excesses: lots of gratuitous panty shots (ala "Agent Aika"), lots of word-dense philosophizing (ala the original but taken to a ridiculous extreme) and an ultra-dense plot that was impossible to untangle and made my head explode (ala "Scanners"). Thus, I must confess that I was only able to make it halfway through that manga and that I could not finish it... so you can see why I would be wary of another Shirow Sequel.I'm glad to say that I was proven wrong. In fact I'm very glad I gave this book a shot because this is one of Shirow's best manga ever, and possibly his funniest. How does it compare with the original? Well, the story - about the Tank Police's efforts to catch a notorious air pirate and uncover his connections to an evil arms corporation - is fairly standard and not as good or thoughtful as the original's (on the plus side though it's not as dense - in fact this just might also be the *lightest* Shirow manga in existence). Actually, this story might not even be a sequel per se to the original as the setting is very different. The bacterial smog from the original is gone (though this is lamp-shaded in-story) and the organization of the Tank Police is very different. Some of the characters from the original are gone too (such as Al and Charlie Nam) and some look rather different (the Chief). More of the cast are Japanese (or at least have Japanese names) while the original went out of its way to highlight the fact that Newport City had a disproportionate amount of foreign police officers. The series' heroine, Leona Ozaki is now a Sergeant and has less of a mecha fetish. Bonaparte is now no longer a single (mini)tank but a series of standard police tanks. And in the biggest change, Anna and Uni Puma have joined the Police!! Yes, the dangerous, homicidal android cat-girl twins have taken the side of law and order... may everyone start quaking in fear! I, of course, am quaking in laughter because the Puma Sisters provide some of the best comic moments in "Dominion: Conflict." They also get to give us a good helping of ...cute? I never thought that Shirow could do "cute" but he succeeds remarkably when he shrinks Anna Puma down to mini-size to fit her in a Bonaparte mini-tank in a gag that's both adorable and amusing. Brilliant!Speaking of which, there's more humor in "Dominion: Conflict" than in "Dominion" (which is amazing considering that the original was pretty damn funny) and it is more broad with more slapstick. The characters are all riotously hilarious but three-dimensional, which is difficult to pull off when writing comedy. There are a few poignant dramatic moments though to balance things out - the most effective I can think of is of the three little old men in the holding cell near the end. The action is just as awesome as in the original - though it better be, considering a) this is Masamune Shirow and b) this story involves air pirates and cops who drive tanks! The artwork for this volume is also superior to the original but this is hardly surprising considering that this came out six years after the first installment. Shirow is a master of the manga artform, and if he releases stuff much more slowly than and not as often as other manga artists (owing to the fact that he works without assistants which is very rare in the world of Japanese comics), then this only proves the old adage about quality over quantity.Dark Horse has done a good job with this publication of "Dominion: Conflict." For this edition they have printed this comic for the first time in the original Japanese reading order, i.e. right-to-left. The translation flows well, is easy to read and is free of obvious typos. We even get a notes section in the back explaining various facets of the "Dominion" world! My one problem though is that Dark Horse left the sound effects untranslated and instead presents them in the original language with translations below or sometimes in the panels. This is a rather jarring reading experience to say the least, reading English text then having to look for translations of Japanese text. I understand doing this for signs, newspapers, etc but why couldn't they have just translated the FX? Anyways, minor griping aside the quality of the book itself is rather nice - we get the first few pages in color and the paper is of pretty good quality (even if it isn't the really nice glossy paper of DH's 2nd Edition of "Ghost in the Shell"). Dark Horse is probably the highest-quality manga publisher in the business today.Pluses - Very, very funny. In fact, the author's funniest ever. Great characters, exciting action and awesome artwork. And Mini-Anna!Minus - Not as deep or intelligent as the original. Conclusion - I highly recommend this comic. If you haven't read the original, don't be intimidated: this can be read without reading "Dominion." In fact, Shirow himself considers this to be a reimagining of the original setting and not a true sequel. A minor translation issue aside, this Dark Horse edition is very nice and would make a good addition to the collection of any Masamune Shirow fan, manga fan in general or even someone who's looking for some good action and comedy in equal spades.

An espionage fiction story that envisioned the threats the world is exposed to today: the GLOBAL GIHAD from central Asia to Iran and Syria

Nisim Kobarsky, a high ranking Mossad agent named "Cobra", finishes a long and nerve-racking period of service in Syria. He is sent on an apparently low-key,low risk mission: he assumes the identity of Pedro Tariki, an Argentinean of Syrian origin and studies biology at the Sorbonne in Paris. His mission is to follow the roots of the revolutionary Muslim movements, which have flourished under the intellectual liberalism that France has always cherished.

Cobra exceeds all expectations thanks to a friendship he develops with Sergey Ismailov, a Muslim, Tajikistan-born, Soviet officer, who proves to be an excellent source of intelligence. Even Cobra's French sweetheart, Denise is unaware of his true identity.

Then the predator becomes the prey as the tables turn. A hostage of the Islamic revolution in Iran, Ismailov concocts a diabolical scheme in which the unsuspecting Cobra is involved. Should he succeed, Israel would face a national disaster.

Mossad agent Cobra is the story of a head-on collision between two lone wolves, both captives of their principles and both highly trained professionals. The plot takes the reader across the globe, from the crumbling Soviet Republic, through Tehran, to Paris, Syria, Buenos Aires and Israel. Global Jihad serves as the inspiration for this fictional scenario that is chillingly probable.

From the Author Enjoy it as a fictional love and thrill story but never say ever. It might happen.

From the Back Cover My inspiration for writing the book:The collapsing of USSR which resulted a rising of a Muslem extremist nationalism in the Asian part of USSR was an alarm sign, which the western world  did not notice during the nineties of the 20 century. I tried to forewarn from this development that would result a Global Jihad by creating a fictional espionage-love story some years before September 11 proved, unfortunately I was right.

A real page turner, and then some By sivan menashe I would define "Mossad Agent Cobra" as a sophisticated, upscale espionage novel, as it offers the reader a much more gripping and thought evoking read than most books that fall under this category or genre. When we think of thrillers we think of an "airplane" read, something light and superficial to pass the time, whereas here I was so pleasantly surprised when I found myself not only on the edge of my seat in anticipation to find out what would happen next to Cobra, but also learning so much about the military history of Israel and the Middle East! It's one of those books that you keep thinking about and talking about after the reading is over. Now that I'm writing this review I feel like reading it all over again...In short, I would definitely recommend this book!!

I have to say that spy books may not be my favorite genre, but with writers like Dov Nardimon, that genre is slowly rising and settling in my top 10 go to book types. This one starts off a little slow, I almost sat this one down. But be committed to reading it, I stuck with it. Wasn't before long that I was hooked. A few pages in, it gripped onto me and demanded my attention. The flow of the writing is fast pace, slow in some places, but just as you are starting to get bored it picks right back up again. I can not say a lot without giving the book away, but I can say that a lot during this read, I felt like I was back in history class. It was both entertaining and educational. I feel like I know more about Israel now than I ever did during school years. ... a plus either way you look at it. I did put the pieces together, rather early on in the story ... so the end was not a surprise. But I enjoyed the journey none the less. The characters , well written, and believable. It was a nice escape from my real life, It is a long book, but I would recommend it.

In this novel you are treated to a fast paced thrill ride, on par with Tom Clancy and others. I found Nisim Kobarsky to be a thinking man’s Archer. Ok, maybe the wrong comparison, but with the name “Cobra”, I thought of Stallone’s film and the contemporary spy comedy. This is not a comedy, obviously, it’s a deep spy novel with thriller elements and action packed scenes. Set to a backdrop of contemporary Middle East political problems, you have a winning combination. I found the book to be great, I read it during breaks between world cup games and after watching them. I love the pacing, Cobra is my kind of hero, although sometimes it’s more of an antihero, if you ask me. Pick this one up, it’s pretty good.

A mining ship goes missing… Its precious cargo could change the galaxy… Unless one man and his crew can find the lost Voyager. Carson Mach, a freelance rogue captain, and his crew are faced with a seemingly routine mission to find and rescue the Voyager, a missing mining ship in a remote system. Only he and his employers know what the lost ship carries in its cargo hold and the devastating consequences if it falls into the wrong hands. On arrival to the Noven system, the destination of the Voyager, Mach and his crew have three planets to explore, with no clues as to where the ship and its artefact might be. Their first stop reveals a terrifying new enemy has joined the search, raising the stakes considerably. If the new threat finds the cargo, it will place the entire galaxy in a perilous position from which it won’t recover. Mach and his crew must overcome impossible odds and defeat the new enemy if they’re to reach the Voyager and save the lives of trillions. All Carson Mach stories are standalone adventures and can be read in any order. If you want to read the first book, The Atlantis Ship, go to: http://hyperurl.co/atlantis “Carson Mach is a great character and I love the adventure he and his crew go on. Space Opera at its best.” -- Shirley Walsh “Pulse-pounding action, well-written space opera that I can’t stop reading. I can’t recommend this highly enough.” -- Gareth Walsley

"The Lost Voyager" was the first novel that popped up on my suggested list, so I grabbed it. I'm glad I did!Captain Carson Mach and the crew of the Intrepid (five others, if I recall correctly) are hired by the government to search for the missing mining ship Voyager, which is carrying a dangerous cargo. But before they find the ship, they meet up with the "terrifying new enemy" described in the preview. From there until the end, it's nonstop action, with many narrow escapes, and the constant threat of many more people dying if they don't succeed in their mission. The further I read in this book, the more I started thinking that it reminded me of another story. Then I got it - "Symbiotica," by Eric Frank Russell (1943), the crew of the good ship "Marathon" on a mission to explore a planet full of biological dangers. Both ships were crewed by a mix of humans and aliens, neither ship had a sinister turncoat evil character, and both stories had a planet full of adversaries that could absolutely flatten them in a heartbeat if they made the wrong move. Neither story contains a lot of chatty philosophy or page-long descriptions of the terrain. And the people in both stories are very similar too. No one cowers in fear or agonizes over where they would rather be. If anyone is about to die, at least they died doing something valuable to their peers and enjoyed it. Each person in both of the stories is a hero in some way, no ambivalence or cowardice or shameful actions. To me, that is a good yarn."Symbiotica" is described from the point of view of one of the crewmen. Mostly it is a narration of the events as they unfold, described in a somewhat humorous fashion. With "The Lost Voyager," you get a lot more. The main viewpoint is that of Carson Mach, and we get to hear his inner thoughts about how the crew is shaping up as well as his anguish about the possible upcoming loss of an old and very dear friend. We also see some of the things that make a really good leader, and at least in my case I said several times "That's exactly what I would have done." The characters in the crew of the Intrepid are all three dimensional, people you would like to meet and have as friends. The story made me care about what happened to all of them, which in my mind is a measure of good writing.I have just a couple of minor quibbles with the novel. First, when I got to about 86% done with the Kindle version, I started noticing some errors in tense, and one sentence that made no sense to me. Maybe a better proofreader would be a good idea. And second, I totally lost track of one character! I don't remember reading about her at the end of the story, and I can't recall what happened after the last time I remember her location being described. The rest of the characters were all three dimensional and memorable, but this was one of the two people who weren't very well described, and it seems like she just evaporated from the story. Probably my fault for not paying closer attention.A.C. Hadfield, thank you for writing this novel. It was very entertaining, and it is one of those classics that will stick in my mind for a long time. I see there is another novel entitled "The Atlantis Ship," so that will be next on my reading list. And I can't wait to see what's coming next!

Hadfield latest Carson Mach book The lost Voyager .Which is the second book in the Carson Mach series. The first being The Atlantis Ship. The storyline grips you from the first page it is fast moving and full of twists and turns and non stop action. In this second book we get a better insight in to the relationship between Carson and his crew of alien misfits. Each one of them a fantastic character in there own right. If like me you are a true space opera fan .Then I urge you to read both of these books .As always start with The Atlantis Ship.and then The Lost Voyager.I promise you that you will not be disappointed. I personally am looking forward to reading the third book in the series.Which I believe is called The Dead Planet. Hopefully it will be released in the near future. So come on A.C. Get it to the publishers .

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Does the second book exceed expections? Definitely YES! By John Bromehed I am always nervous when reading novels in a "series" as more often than not I feel let down as the characters don't grow, the stories become familiar and the writing a little tired. So it was with some trepidation that I started the second novel in A.C. Hadfield!s series The Lost Voyager. I always have high hopes and having thoroughly enjoyed his first book, The Atlantis ship, I was really looking forward to his second. So what do the second books in a series need for me? I like a strong lead character who is not perfect but has a sense of humour. I like any carryover character from the first book to grow and become even more interesting. I like the story to be somewhat unpredictable and the action to be fast and exciting. I like a love interest and I like bad guys to be very bad and very sneaky. I like big picture characters and the enevitable politics they bring to the story and I love surprises. Most of all I love it when I can't put the book down and I have to keep reading. So how does Lost Voyager measure up for me. It exceeded all my expectations! It was for me even better than the first book and I can't wait to read the third! I highly recommend this as a read you will thoroughly enjoy.

The President of the United States is assassinated by a domestic terrorist organization and lies dead on the operating table. Rather than announce the news, the administration secretly reanimates him through an untested medical process. He comes back to life with an undead agenda that threatens global Armageddon. The administration struggles to explain away the President's increasingly bizarre behavior to the media. The fate of the world rests with three unlikely women: a reporter for a tabloid cable news network, the estranged first lady, and the isolated vice president. The big problem: no one can really be sure of the undead President's plans as he spins out of control. It seems the President hopes to remake the world in his own undead image. A single reanimated corpse now holds the fate of humanity in his hands, and few people know the truth. No one knows what really happened to the President, no one knows what he's planning next, and no one knows how to stop him.

I also loved the way the series progressed and it seemed like a pretty straightforward story at first but by Garden of the Gods, I wasn't expecting all of those twists. The whole point isn't so much religion as it is good versus evil and I thought that was awesome.I received a free book (book 1) in exchange for my honest review.

Hackett County, West Virginia, set far enough off the beaten path to give the residents of this quaint community a sense of security. In 1955, the economy and population of the country were expanding after the end of World War Ii, and with it came changes that the people of Hackett County were reluctant in accepting. Life was slow and predictable and that's how everyone liked it. Excerpt from Memorials of a Half-CenturyThe writer came to Michigan, a youth, in the spring of 1835, and settled in the town of Springwells, two miles from the western limits of Detroit, then a city of less than 5000 inhabitants. On or near the spot of his first abode, upon the banks of our noble river, he has dwelt for half a century, and until the spreading city has absorbed the intervening farms.Even a few years ago his present residence was so completely in the country, that the familiar rural sights and sounds were but little banished. The influences thus surrounding him are visible in many of the essays which make up this book, and which are in part compiled from his Diary.Such are the chapters upon the seasons and upon the inhabitants, human and brute, of the neighborhood. Of the other papers, some will be recognized as having been read before the Detroit Scientific Association, and State and County Pioneer societies, and some have already received publication in newspapers and pioneer collections. In the essays upon climate, the author ventures to believe, will be found something of merit, in the way of original observation and research. The character of our seasons he has endeavored to portray, less by attempt at vivid description, than by the plain statement of facts. Anything really new, on subjects of such universal interest, may prove of more than local value.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Memorials of a half-century (1887) By sped teacher Although written in 1887 by my great-great-great grandfather Bela Hubbard, this book is still used as a text for college and university classes in environment and natural resources. Bela Hubbard helped start up Michigan State University and was a professor. (He might cringe to know that I hold two degrees from the University of Michigan.) I bought the book for my mother, whose mother's maiden name was Hubbard, as a family heirloom of sorts. Interesting information and sights to see in Michigan can be found in this book.

Seeing as I don't read any of these books myself (I just buy them) I can only judge by the hours he spends in behind the open books.

By LRox Not sure how HH does it but I'm still just as engaged as I was in the 1st book! The main character BB continues to surprise with her farfetched investigations and the means by which she 'gets her man'! I continue to be surprised and entertained by her snarky comments and gibe repertoire with almost every character introduced in the book.Remarkably my fav character is "X"! I LOVE the way he 'pops' in and out of the story and surprises not only BB but tends to go against the grain for his species! I am reading Bk4 (Red Angel) now and I keep turning every page to seen when he's step in or if BB will call upon him or if his 'favor' will finally be revealed.I like this series because it continues to be unpredictable, interesting, and fresh (the writing is so creative and original, I've not read anything like it before)! It has lots of suspense and no unnecessary fluff (love scenes and unnecessary intimacy) but still maintains the undercurrent of attraction between Bo and Michael (I LOVE him -- that vampire is amaz-zzzing!) without making BB seem like a wet, clingy rag! It would be nice if the two 'friends with benefits' would finally become more but I think it keeps the story interesting to bring them together and then move them apart. Another of my fav characters is Arbuthonot (where in the world did the Author come up with that name) because he remains such a mystery and I can't wait for his character traits/flaws to be completely revealed!Almost forgot to mention that although each installment has not had any typos (thanks to a good editor I'm sure), there were words skipped or were in the wrong place consistently -- really weird but never slowed me down!

The humans are hating the vamps and Bo is caught in the middle. She has shown some growth and some set backs in this one. She is growing as how to handle tough situations but as far as her love life is concerned...well, it need some work. Michael is so yes! and Bo is just too afraid of her feelings and avoids it like the plague. I'm wondering how much Michael will put with but he seems to always come back for me. The ending was well thought out, no cliff hanger but I'm having some hope for the romance side in the next one. More romance Helen!!!!

Nope, she's a private investigator, and she recently left the "Family." Now, while she's trying to figure out her relationship problems and deal with the repercussions of being out of the Family, a woman is brutally assaulted. Bo is now going to do everything in her power to figure out who did this to her, and why. But it may not be so easy. Especially when she has so many others to think of, and the media after her as well. This book was okay. It's not as good as previous books, but it was still pretty interesting. I was a little bit annoyed with the fact that Bo kept pushing Michael away. It drove me nuts. Other then that I liked the plot line, and all of the main characters. I look forward to reading more in this series.

The old world is gone. It’s been over a hundred years since the earth flooded. There is nothing but endless ocean in all directions. The last of humanity survives on islands built of metal, and ships that travel between them. People cling to the remains of the old world and are desperate to rebuild cities and governments. One of theses cities is named Cobalt. A floating skyscraper built on the foundations of slavery and hierarchy. The Cobalts live peaceful lives by crushing the lesser citizens beneath them and burning passing ships to steal their crew for labor. Echo is a Drifter. She chose the life of solitude, away from the cities. She trades and steals from passing ships and lives on the edge of death every day. Her supplies are running low and she’s become desperate to find a passing ship. Just as she’s about to lose hope that she’ll find someone, the Cobalt finds her.
