By Amazon Customer Deb’s Dozen: Ambition, a strong work ethic, and a sense of right versus expediency.A Perfect Ambition by Dr. Kevin Leman and Jeff Nesbit shows the conflict between those who are born to wealth and power and who choose to use both wisely and those who seek more wealth and power to the exclusion of everything else.William Jennings Worthington VI is the eldest son born to a family used to both wealth and power. Will feels the constant pressure from his father to do more and rise farther than he already has. He heads Worthington Shares Equity, but William Worthington the Fifth is urging him to seize the chairmanship of American Frontier Oil Company, the largest in the world.Sean Worthington, the youngest son and definitely in Will’s shadow, is tasking with finding and running new ventures. He’s also an environmental activist of sorts with an international network of friends and contacts. Will’s sister, Sarah, is a deputy assistant attorney general for the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division. Soon, all three will be embroiled in an international crisis that will challenge who they are and who they will become. Will is on his way to the American Frontier board meeting—intent on ousting the current chair. Seth is on a research ship in the Arctic Ocean studying the effects of global warming by monitoring ice melt and other environmental issues. While on the ship, Seth can observe AF’s oil rig anchored nearby. While he and two of the scientists are watching, they hear a muffled boom coming from the derrick. To their horror, Beluga whales covered with oil surface as does the oil slick. The derrick is in one of the most inhospitable areas of the Arctic. They know immediately AF will not contain nor repair this spill quickly. Meanwhile, in New York, the CEO of AF, Eric Sandstrom, abruptly leaves the meeting after being summoned to meet immediately with the President of the US, Spencer Rich. As word of the spill spreads, Sarah’s department gets involved as her boss wants her to handle a criminal negligence suit against American Frontier. The story is interesting as the contrasts between wealth and power for good and wealth and power for evil are played out. The character development of the siblings is effective and the villains, Eric Sandstrom, along with his crony, Frank Stapleton, are also realistic. President Rich is, unfortunately, a typical politician—always on the side of what will do him the most good—regardless of the truth.Very relevant to today’s issues, and timely because of the political season we are in, I found A Perfect Ambition (The Worthington Destiny Book #1): A Novel an interesting and provocative read. Four stars. Look for A Powerful Secret, the second book in The Worthington Destiny Series, later in 2016.Dr. Kevin Leman is the author of more than fifty books and a frequent guest on such shows as Fox & Friends, The 700 Club, CNN, and Good Morning America. His co-author, Jeff Nesbit, is a former senior communications official at the White House and the author of twenty novels.Revell Books gave me a copy of A Perfect Ambition in exchange for my unbiased review.

I read the opening chapters and knew I had to back up and read book one. "A Perfect Ambition" is book one. Will Worthington was born to be a leader, groomed to be a leader, and had the wealth to be a leader. But the leader of what? He'd assumed for years that he'd become the CEO of the largest oil company on earth. An oil spill, a terrorist bomber, and a family secret shattered any plans Will had.Sean Worthington could never live up to his big brother's example, so he didn't try. He charted his own course and fought his own battles.Sarah Worthington didn't need to do anything if she didn't want, but she studied law and found she was good at it. Good enough to rise in the ranking of the DOJ.The siblings aren't afraid to face anything in life. Or so they think. But life is about to throw them all to the curb. And it's going to get nasty.Lots of good stuff in this first book. There are a few places where it gets a little redundant on the familial relationships, but persevere because it's worth it. It ends with a bang. You'll want book number two, "A Powerful Secret," on hand to pick up and keep reading!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. bring on some more! By lighthouse88 Will Worthington was born with the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth. He has been successful at everything he has done throughout his 39 years. He is the oldest of three children and felt the pressure to succeed from his father his whole life. He now is facing the decision of a lifetime in regards to his job. He is about to be named the new CEO of the largest company in the world. His dream job or so he thought. Just as he has plotted his path toward this goal his entire life, a monkey wrench is thrown into the mix. Should Will continue pursuing this path or should he switch gears and run for a senate seat as his father has been pressuring him to do?Meanwhile, Will’s brother Sean who is very active in environmental issues is on the scene of an oil spill in the Arctic caused by the very company Will wants to lead. Sean uncovers some distressing information he passes on to Will before getting caught in an Arctic hurricane. Will’s sister is the leading attorney for the justice department that has filed suit against the same company. As Will juggles all these events, he also is a husband and father. While visiting his parents’ summer getaway, he discovers something earthshaking. This is a really good beginning to an exciting series. I enjoyed getting to peek into the lives of the rich and famous, politics, big company workings, secrets, lies, loyalty and much more. There was a little too much of the birth order psychology among siblings for my liking, and there was very little mention of God or faith in this story. I hope those elements are more evident in subsequent books. With that said, this was still a good book and well worth reading, with short easy to read chapters, lots of tension and a great ending. I am anxious to see how the story picks up in book two of the series, A Powerful Secret, released in the spring of 2016.

21 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Welcome back, Fern Michaels! By Angie W For years I have read and loved all of Fern Michaels books. Awhile ago I noticed that her books started to a negative feeling throughout them that made me, personally, lose the joy in reading them. I quit reading hers for some time and on a whim decided to try her books again. I am so glad I did. Perfect Match was a wonderful story that I couldn't put down. I cheered for the characters to get back to a better place in their lives and fell in love with them throughout the book. Normally I do not review books but I was sad when I finished the book because I wish it wouldn't end. Because of this I had to let other readers know how much I enjoyed this book and encourage others to read it. Thank you Fern Michaels for bringing back your heart to this book!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Disjointed and Snarky By P. Ficere I was given this book as a gift because my family and friends know that Fern Michaels is one of my favorite authors. I really wanted to like it, but I was so disappointed. I realize that each book has a main plot and a couple of sub-plots, but this felt so disjointed. The matchmaking storyline would have been enough, the stalking storyline would have been enough - but putting the two of them together just felt like, "Oh, hey, I don't have enough for each one to be a whole book so I'll just put them together." Also, there were many parts of the book where there was too much detail and others where it jumped right in without explanation and wrapped everything up too quickly. Finally, here is my biggest disappointment - and something I've noticed in the last several books authored by Ms. Michaels (especially the Sisterhood series): the female leads are so snarky! I realize that sassy banter is the way that you set a couple up -- having them argue with each other and some type of conflict leads to a relationship, that's pretty standard. However, it's gone too far. I think Ms. Michaels is hoping her lead female characters will come off as witty, but instead they come off as witchy! And, not only that, several of her male characters are portrayed as stumbling idiots and the women talk horribly to them. I like that many of the male characters are successful men, so I don't understand why they are treated like idiots by the female characters. Perhaps the goal is to show that, when you're in a comfortable, long-lasting relationship, you can speak to those close to you anyway you want. However, snarky gets old really soon. I'm not saying that the characters all need to be simple-minded, 100% sweet, naive, perfect people...but maybe balance it out more. You can be successful, savvy and kind (especially to the people closest to you) without being mean. All of that being said, I will continue to read books by Ms. Michaels. I'm just hoping the characters will be more realistic.

PERFECT MATCH FOR PERFECT SUMMER READNG By Carmelita Even under the most extraordinary circumstances the characters find a deeper meaning and purpose. Fern Michael's books always give me a sense of hope, renewal, and great escapism. I look forward to all of her novels....especially with my favorite chocolate. Two guilty pleasures.

Excerpt from The Asteroids, or Minor Planets Between Mars and JupiterThe rapid progress of discovery in the zone of minor planets, the anomalous forms and positions of their orbits, the small size as well as the great number of these telescopic bodies, and their peculiar relations to Jupiter, the massive planet next exterior, - all entitle this part of the system to more particular consideration than it has hitherto received. The following essay is designed, therefore, to supply an obvious want. Its results are given in some detail up to the date of publication. Part I. presents in a popular form the leading historical facts as to the discovery of Ceres, Pallas, Juno, Vesta, and Astræa; a tabular statement of the dates and places of discovery for the entire group; a list of the names of discoverers, with the number of minor planets detected by each; and a table of the principal elements so far as computed.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Space Age began just as the struggle for civil rights forced Americans to confront the long and bitter legacy of slavery, discrimination, and violence against African Americans. Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson utilized the space program as an agent for social change, using federal equal employment opportunity laws to open workplaces at NASA and NASA contractors to African Americans while creating thousands of research and technology jobs in the Deep South to ameliorate poverty. We Could Not Fail tells the inspiring, largely unknown story of how shooting for the stars helped to overcome segregation on earth.

Richard Paul and Steven Moss profile ten pioneer African American space workers whose stories illustrate the role NASA and the space program played in promoting civil rights. They recount how these technicians, mathematicians, engineers, and an astronaut candidate surmounted barriers to move, in some cases literally, from the cotton fields to the launching pad. The authors vividly describe what it was like to be the sole African American in a NASA work group and how these brave and determined men also helped to transform Southern society by integrating colleges, patenting new inventions, holding elective office, and reviving and governing defunct towns. Adding new names to the roster of civil rights heroes and a new chapter to the story of space exploration, We Could Not Fail demonstrates how African Americans broke the color barrier by competing successfully at the highest level of American intellectual and technological achievement.

We Could Not Fail: The First African Americans in the Space Program, by Richard Paul, Steven Moss

Review "Surprising and insightful." (New York Times Book Review 2015-04-24)"The first African Americans to join the United States space program encountered pushback both inside and outside NASA's doors. When they moved to Cape Canaveral and other Deep South pillars to work on Apollo missions, the Ku Klux Klan was there to greet them. Even history and space program buffs should find insight in We Could Not Fail's fresh look at a well-treaded era." (Esquire 2015-05-04)"This account of 10 pioneers, told against the backdrop of the civil rights era, highlights the intersection of technology and race in U.S. history, continuing innovations in technology, and the struggle of minorities to participate." (Booklist 2015-02-11)"Paul (documentary producer) and Moss (English, Texas State Technical Coll.) offer a complementary narrative to our national story about the civil rights movement, providing a nuanced look at how integration and civil rights ideals shaped and were shaped by federal employers. . . . Vital and of interest to all Americans, from history and space buffs to students, researchers, and casual readers." (Library Journal 2015-04-01)"President John F Kennedy's ambition to put a man on the moon was a key part of his legacy, but less well known is how his administration used NASA as an agent for social change during the civil rights movement. It's a nearly forgotten history that authors Richard Paul and Steven Moss investigate in their new book, We Could Not Fail. It profiles some of the first African Americans in the US space programme and the lasting impact of their work." (BBC World News)"We Could Not Fail is hard to put down. Reading about the personal experiences of African Americans with technical expertise before the civil rights era resonated strongly, as it likely will for any reader with African-American ancestors. The book's discussion of free African-American communities also sheds light on an important, but often overlooked, part of American history.

We Could Not Fail is not only a terrific read but also an important historical book, collecting and documenting features of life in the South for African Americans that have not heretofore been recorded. " (Science Magazine 2015-05-15)"This comprehensively researched book is replete with fascinating details about ways in which the civil rights movement influenced the space program. . . . It makes an important contribution to African American history." (The Washington Post 2015-07-24)"This is a wonderfully surprising book that explores the impact and the struggles of African Americans involved in NASA and the early days of the space program, a story that is little known but is well told by Richard Paul and Steven Moss. This is not just the history of a few pioneering individuals; rather this work provides insight into the struggle to obtain civil rights by contextualizing how the space program was integrated and how it helped to shape the movement for racial justice in the 1960s. This work broadens our understanding of this period of turmoil and change." (Lonnie Bunch, Founding Director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture)"Wonderfully written and expertly researched, We Could Not Fail is a skillfully paced, real-life narrative of the surprising but profound impact African American engineers and technicians, NASA, and space exploration had on race and segregation in the Jim Crow south. Richard Paul and Steven Moss have produced an engaging book that provides a much-needed window into how public policy, mass protest, personal talent, character, and perseverance--alongside bold national ambition and vision--connected to change a nation. This is a ‘must read’ book, particularly at a time when we are once again openly struggling with the role of government in ensuring opportunity and civil rights for all our citizens." (Mae Jemison, M.D., former NASA astronaut and principal, 100 Year Starship)

Doherty What an eye opener for those of us who lived through the 1960s in the South, and thought we knew well all events there. I loved reading this book because the story of big government policy and wonderful ordinary men shows how history really happens. Even if it is a bit scholarly sometimes, the book is an enjoyable read. The character of the men who were good at math and wanted to work in the space program shines through the Jim Crow constraints with which they had to contend.

Of course, unfortunately, prejudice will never be totally eradicated; but this book gives good insight into the many ways that NASA succeeded, and the ways it could not, as told by the people who lived it.

By Marsha Freeman This book presents a balanced view of an extremely complex subject. Based largely on interviews with principals involved, it challenges some popular ideas about the subject which is an admirable accomplishment in writing history. A few seminal events in the history of NASA/African American relations, such as the "confrontation" between NASA leadership and a poor people's march at Cape Canaveral on the eve of the launch of Apollo 11 are not included, but the material covered is an important contribution to the subject.

Thomas Crocker is back and in a race against time and the terrorist known as the Fox. Unlike the other books this one wasn't as high intensity and edge of your seat. Was it good? Hell yes, just not quite as good as the last book. Don Mann and Ralph Pezzullo as always bring you into the SEAL Team Six team takes you on a wild ride with the emotional side that humanizes the soldiers and gives an insight on to why Tom makes the decisions he does.Months after the incident in Mexico, Tom and the rest of his team are ready to jump back in and get back to work. Their first mission is a doozy. They have received pictures of sarin canisters being kept in Syria they must now extract without the knowledge of ISIS or the FSA. But it all goes a little too smoothly aside from having to take a detour and taking on extra passengers, refugees from the Syrian civil war and Tom having to help a woman give birth. Once they get to safety the sarin goes missing along with the contact who leads them to the sarin. Not willing to walk away from the FUBAR situation Tom and his team help the local government try and track down the sarin but it soon pops up as the terrorist hijacked a Disney cruise liner. All the while Tom deals with saving the day with his team he tries to deal with personal problems of his wife being fed up with being married to a Navy SEAL. During the whole book Tom goes back and remembers time with his wife the first time they met and when he fell in love to more recent ones of them meeting with a therapist, and in the end he knows what he should do. He is also still dealing with the traumatic last mission. This is a must read for followers of the series it's not to be missed. It's not good as the last book but by no means bad, it was riveting and intense it's what I expect from a SEAL Team Six series.

You will never look at the honor and sacrifice again so simply By Theresah Hunt the Foxby Don MannI have loved seeing Tom Crocker develop over the series; the reality that his job in the military has real and immediate cost is eye opening. Crocker is an awesome character, his heroic nature and dedication exemplify the nature of the Armed forces especially the SEAL team service. This book was another tick in the right direction to showing the humanity, and strength of the military ideology and bravo. I was drawn into the story of the three missions elaborated within the pages. I found myself struggling with Crocker through his loss of a close college in the last book. His difficulty in his marriage, and home life while he is drawn again out of country to save Americans and the world from some of the most difficult and deadly situations. The author’s use in the book of modern problems, radical groups, and violence to elaborate the problems that the government faces in protecting the American Public in this complicated and dynamic world. This series is one of the few you can place your hand on and say, see it’s not all fun and games. It will remind the public of the Sacrifice that the Military personal are asked to serve their country.

Curnutt First of all I would like to thank Net Galley and Mulholland Books for making a review copy of this book available to me in exchange for an honest review. In this ongoing series of books about Seal Team Six and their missions we find the team facing a highly classified as well as a highly dangerous mission, well, what else is new for Seal Team Six.Chief Warrant Officer Crocker and his team will be tasked with enter Syria in the height of the civil war there to infiltrate a Syrian Air Force Base and retrieve eight cans of Sarin Gas that if released could kill thousands of innocent people. Not only will they face dangerous odds while traveling through Syria, but they will also face the danger of being betrayed by those tasked to help them and those that they believe have their best interest at heart. Some of the betrayal may even be from their own government which doesn’t appear to always understand the operational hazards that they face and the split second decisions and changes that they need to make.Crocker also will be faced with some medical challenges during the course of the operation that will push his medic skills to the edge. But like a true Navy Seal he will perform flawlessly and with great patience and kindness as well as with great warrior skills. All of this on top of having lost a good friend and team member just a few short months ago. Also on top of having his wife threatening to leave him because she can’t take the pressure anymore of being married to a Navy Seal. She feels that he cares more about his team and the thrill of the action than he cares about her.Don Mann does a great job of building the character traits of Crocker as well as helping us to understand his thinking and decision making processes. He will also give us a good tour of the mind set of a heroic warrior who does his best despite the odds and knowing that he will never receive any recognition for a job well done. The action is good, the details of the operations are good, the threat is realistic to our world today and thus all of this adds up to a good read.Enjoy!

Excerpt from The Teaching of GeometryA book upon the teaching of geometry may be planned in divers ways. It may be written to exploit a new theory of geometry, or a new method of presenting the science as we already have it. On the other hand, it may be ultraconservative, making a plea for the ancient teaching and the ancient geometry. It may be prepared for the purpose of setting forth the work as it now is, or with the tempting but dangerous idea of prophecy. It may appeal to the iconoclast by its spirit of destruction, or to the disciples of laissez faire by its spirit of conserving what the past has bequeathed. It may be written for the few who always lead, or think they lead, or for the many who are ranked by the few as followers. And in view of these varied pathways into the joint domain of geometry and education, a writer may well afford to pause before he sets his pen to paper, and to decide with care the route that he will take.At present in America we have a fairly well-defined body of matter in geometry, and this occupies a fairly well-defined place in the curriculum. There are not wanting many earnest teachers who would change both the matter and the place in a very radical fashion. There are not wanting others, also many in number, who are content with things as they find them.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. In the second book of Arno Camenisch's Alp trilogy, "Behind the Station," is told through the eyes of two young brothers growing up in a small, secluded village in a valley flanked by the alpine mountains. Written in the same style as "The Alp," we start to believe that there's little difference between the children and the adults in this village, save for their love for mischief and ghost stories. The grandmother, the parents, and the neighbors: it is an amphitheater full of drama, somehow colored through the eyes of children. Arno Camenisch's quiet control and powerful descriptions of village life prove that he is an international voice to follow.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Snapshots of life in a Swiss village thirty years ago. By DubaiReader This is the second book in Arno Camenisch's Swiss Literature series, but I did not feel that I had missed out by reading this first. The author was born in 1978 so this would have been set at the time that he was a young boy, like the two brothers in this novella. The brothers seemed quite young, too young to be wandering around the village, but their ages are not given. I think this wandering free was what appealed to me most about the book; I lived in a small village in UK and was also able to wander around in a way that children today are unable to do.Reading the novella was more like looking through a photograph album; it is made up of snapshots of events, as would be remembered by children. These anecdotes are fascinating insights into life in an isolated Swiss village in the eighties, but I did regret not having kept a record of who's who from the beginning, as this is a cast of thousands.Reading this as a novella of a hundred or so pages, was perfect. If it had been book length I think I might have lost interest. Now I need to read the two others in the trilogy.

This thing should come with an addiction warning label By Karyn Pearson In an amazing first installment, Catrina Taylor pulls you into the world of the Knights of the Immortals and leaves you pining for book two by the end. I all but devoured this book and wished I could reach through my Kindle screen to shake down the author for the next installment. The characters Ms. Taylor writes are authentic, relatable, and you really feel for them and want to know what happens to them. All in all, this is a fantastic start and I cannot wait to see where this story goes next. It's only going to get better and better!

She paints a unique world with her words that I would love to visit. The characters are alive and extremely detailed. The story is interesting and captivates you, leaving you wanting more. I can't wait for the second in this serial.

I was lucky enough to get my mitts on an advance copy of this for review purposes, and liked it so much I had to go out and buy it now it's been released properly. If you don't want to get hooked on a series, or would rather just be mildly entertained by run of the mill cliched fantasy stand-alones, don't read this. I warn you, you'll get sucked in and then you'll need to read more, and probably do what I'm about to do and start nagging Taylor into hurrying up to release more!

Pomfret Towers, Barsetshire seat of the earls of Pomfret, was constructed, with great pomp and want of concern for creature comforts, in the once-fashionable style of Sir Gilbert Scott's St Pancras station. It makes a grand setting for a house party at which gamine Alice Barton and her brother, Guy, are honoured guests, mixing with the headstrong Rivers family, the tally-ho Wicklows, and, most charming of all, Giles Foster, nephew and heir of the present Lord Pomfret. But whose hand will Mr Foster seek in marriage, and who will win Alice's tender heart?

Angela Thirkell's classic 1930s comedy is lively, witty, and deliciously diverting.

It stands alone beautifully. I reread this book at least once a year, usually during the summer out on my porch swing. The conversations are very witty - reminds me of PG Wodehouse at times. I love running into the characters again in other Thirkell novels as I am very attached to them!

Jolly romp By Caroline Lim Who would have thought that a weekend house party at a pre-WorldWar II English mansion would be the catalyst sparking off family drama in a rollicking good way. A timid woman finds herself starting to come out of her shell when she meets a sulky spoiled man proclaiming to be an artist. A loud and overbearing author of romance novels stalks after her publisher and her daughter in turn, believing herself entitled to a higher advance to her next book and blatantly trying to orchestrate a relationship between her daughter and the heir to the mansion respectively. Throw into the mix, an ever patient and efficient secretary to Lady Pomfret, an archdeacon, a brother and sister of more humble origins, an illustrious author of historical research, Lord Pomfret, a cantankerous aristocrat, and staff who see and hear more than they are noticed, and you have a wonderful cast of characters to make up this delightful jolly gem of a read.Perfect for a gloomy rainy afternoon.

I enjoyed stepping into the world of Hong Kong and getting immersed with the culture and characters Morton has presented. A great read!

On the one hand it is the coming of age story of a young girl. On another level it is a story about martial arts, set in the criminal underworld of Hong Kong. It has action and adventure, and many twists and turns of plot, so you can barely see what is around the next corner, much less how things will turn out for Shirley. Because its protagonist is a teenage girl, it is particularly to be recommended for teens, and for girls. Though I am neither and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has plenty of action as it follows Shirley through difficult adventures and therefore an exciting part of her life.I loved this novel and highly recommend it. Any one who likes adventure flavored with mystery will find that it is a hard book to put down, until you are finished. I look forward to any sequel, as well as any other work by this author. However, I . I think this book would be especially well received by teens, and a welcome addition to any middle school or high school library.

By Danny Emerick I couldn't put it down! The story of Snow Flake's trials and tribulations really took hold of me! It was like being on a roller-coaster! Thrilling, and with a bit of tension for the entire ride!By the end of the book, I found that I had become somewhat attached to Snow Flake and her friends. The portrayal of the love, loyalty and friendship among the main characters (Lao Tung, Takamura, William and Snow Flake) was quite touching, and to me, formed the backbone of the story.I really didn't want the book to end! But it closed on a most satisfactory high note!Looking for more from the pen of Mr. Morton Raphael!

By kim hunsberger This is the Fourth installment of the Cold Fury and in my opinion, the best one yet.Ryker Evans is a new single father and struggling to figure out how to take care of two very small, very adorable daughters; Ruby and Violet make Ryker's world turn. And I've got to say it was so much fun reading how very young, small females can turn even the biggest, baddest man into jello. Not only does Ryker have to worry about his girls, but he's also the replacement goalie. Yeah, his stats are off the charts but when you're considered an "old man" in a field full of younger guys, he has to work harder, be stronger and keep his s***e together.Too bad the new GM of the Fury is making him take his eye off the goal.Gray Brannon has always been into hockey. She's got the medals to prove it too. When her Dad steps down from the General Manager position; it only makes sense that he names Gray as his successor. She's got a whole lot of the girl thing going on and she's bad-ass enough for the job too.But the real work will be proving it to not only the rest of the suits, but also to the team.Misgivings, prejudice and all around stubbornness color her rise as GM of the Cold Fury. But she's got the time and patience to try and turn everyone around. The only one that seems to be behind her is Ryker. He's tall, dark and sexier than any one man should be. And he puts her in a very shaky position.Trying to keep their budding relationship on the down-low and Ryker's ex from trying to worm her way back into his life has the couple dealing with more than just Hockey. But danger from an unexpected source has Ryker rethinking everything.Ryker is one bad ass Daddy.Sawyer Bennett out wrote herself when she made Ryker. He's everything every woman in the world wants. Including me.Reviewed for FMRBookgrind

Bias Gray Brannon believed in Ryker Evans' goalie abilities so much that she convinced he father, GM for the Cold Fury hockey team to hire him even under challenging circumstances. There were dissenters, but she had faith in him. Now her Dad has retired and she has been promoted to team General Manager. Ryker is one of the few on the team to support her and her unique anayltical strategies. But they also begin harboring an attraction to one another that is strictly inappropriate. She already has a lot to prove so being caught would be hazardous to her career. It could ruin both of their credibility and affect their jobs. But they find it hard to resist. After ruining their chance at the Stanley Cup last year, Ryker is now having a hot season as the Cold Fury goalie. He is a recently single parent of his two young daughters and is starting to find his groove on the home front. He is a good guy with strong protective instincts. I loved his softer sensitive side as well as his tough, protective, alpha side. He is sexy, sweet, humorous, and an all around likable guy and good friend. But he has been lacking love, lust, and companionship since his separation. But he is a man that knows what he wants and is not afraid to go after it. And Gray is definitely one of his goals whether it is a good idea or not.Gray is highly intelligent, funny, talented, and understands the stress of being a goalie. But she is under a lot of pressure as the new GM and the only female in a male dominated profession. Her business side and womanly side often conflict. She is a bit nerdy and inexperienced at relationships, but that made her more endearing.I loved their rapport and chemistry. I enjoyed seeing Gray out of her comfort zone. And my heart really wanted Ryker to find happiness after all he has been through. Most of the drama was extrinsic to their actual relationship. They are happy together in their little bubble, but literally have to hide it to avoid any negative consequences and publicity. They yearn for normalcy, but there are plenty of obstacles in their way. And Gray already has enemies and many eyes on her. It is all very precarious and could fall apart at any moment. It comes down to love of a career versus love of another person. It's about goals, priorities, and sacrifice. It is humorous, sexy, romantic, and sweet with just enough drama to keep it interesting.I loved getting more with Zack and Kate, Alex and Sutton, and Garrett. I love the banter with the team mates. Zack especially had me laughing and I enjoyed more progression with him and Kate. Ryker's girls Violet and Ruby, and Gray's Dad Brian often made me smile. Their interactions were so heartfelt. There were also several antagonists that added drama to the story.I am so glad that there are going to be two more books in this series and I can't wait to see who they will be about!

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. RYKER! My favorite Cold Fury player! By Kara Hildebrand - Two Book Pushers I think I might have said that Zack was my favorite. I lied. Ryker is my favorite. He's sexy, sweet, smart, thoughtful, a loving father and a man built for relationships. He never wavers. Flat out admits that he's not a fling type of guy. If he hadn't had me at goalie, he would have had me at that. It's extremely refreshing to read a story where the man knows what he wants. He doesn't look at other women. He tells Gray exactly how he feels and does what he says he's going to do. He's older and wiser. A great friend, a team player and a dirty talking man. When Gray, the woman that scouted him for the Cold Fury, gets promoted to GM, he can't help his attraction to her. It has bad news written all over it, but he doesn't care. He wants her and he's going to prove to her that it's not just for one night. Gray is independent, tough, intelligent, sexy and sure of herself. She knows she will be a great GM, but dating Ryker could ruin what she's built. Is it worth the risk? Do you have to choose your career over love? Man oh man. These two are hot! I just love everything about them. They are strong, smart, sexy, goalies and perfect for each other. The yoga class is one of my favorite scenes!! Sawyer knows how to write kick ass leading ladies, scorching hot leading men and hockey!"I'm doing what feels right to me. You feel right to me.""You're wrong about one thing. A fling wouldn't be difficult, because it would be quick and secretive and over probably as soon as it started. You'd have little risk of being caught. But I don't do flings. You would be way more than a fling to me.""I'd like to be around you even if you didn't do magical things to me with your p.""And my hands and mouth," I remind her.
