Lady Beauchamp's Proposal, by Amy Rose Bennett

Review "I LOVED this powerful and emotionally charged dark and angst ridden Regency romance - it is full of secrets and suspense and brimming with raw sensuality and has a real taste of the gothic about it. It is an excellent Regency Noir read and if you enjoy books by authors such as Anna Campbell and Anne Stuart you will also revel in reading Lady Beauchamp's Proposal, a deliciously dark, dangerous and erotic foray into this genre." ~ A Reader's Review Blog, 5 stars "Set in London and Scotland in 1815, this beautifully crafted tale has all the feels!" ~ February 2015 issue of InD'tale Magazine, 5 stars. InD'tale Magazine's heat rating: 4 Steam Kettles = Slightly steamy sex with some description.

By Cathy Rackowski If you love historical romance, sensual reading, a Gothic atmosphere with a bit of Regency thrown in then Lady Beauchamp’s Proposal is the book for you. Author, Amy Rose Bennett, has given us a story that pulls from multiple genres and packs them all into one well written twist turning novel.Lady Beauchamp is a woman torn. She has suffered a wasted life in a dead marriage. It appears her husband, the Earl of Beauchamp, only married her because she fit the part of aristocratic lady. She, in her youthful inexperience, thought they had married for love. She couldn’t have been more wrong on that assumption. Her husband takes to a debauched lifestyle leaving his wife behind to do whatever she wants; he could really care less as long as it doesn’t interfere with his choices. To fill a lonely life she takes on running her home as a Lady of those times would and doing good works for the needy. She becomes a patroness of the London based Widows of Waterloo Trust. She can vaguely connect with this cause as her husband had served in the military (if you can call what he did serving) and she herself feels like a widow in this loveless barren marriage.Lady Beauchamp or Beth finds her quiet life upturned when she learns that her husband is in the throes of the deadly and highly contagious disease Syphilis. To make matters worse she finds out he is now determined to beget a legitimate heir, she knows this would only be a death sentence to her or any child that would come of this union. Again, the aristocracy must continue… the line must never die out. Beth knows she must leave; using her charity she makes up a fictional background, changes her name, escapes from her home and is off to be a governess in the far of wilds of Scotland.Enter our hero, the Marquess of Rothsburgh or James. Here is a man who is so jaded by his own misfortune in a mate that he cares little about anyone else but himself and his young daughter who he has sent away (much to Beth’s dismay when this is unveiled.). James is exhausted from the agonies of war, from the death of his wife, and disgusted with life in general. Beth appears at his door and suddenly intriguing games come to mind… he is intent on seducing her no matter the cost to this woman who is now under his care and his roof. This is a story of lust, lies, secrets and yes love. We are now in the aura of the world of the classic Gothic novel, the dark handsome brooding hero, the beautiful sad woman who is now dependent on this man and the isolated area in which he lives…. the outer reaches of Scotland.Ms. Bennett has set the stage for many a conundrum. Will our heroine fall for our hero’s machinations? Will our hero succeed in seducing this woman and will she in turn allow this seduction? The answer is yes to the above, the question is how do you live with all of this when you both finally realize you are not just satisfying a longing or lust but falling in love. How do you face any future with the amount of lies that have been told and secrets that have been kept by all of the parties in this drama? Ms. Bennett writes a steamy story here, the pages at times seem to burn up with this sensual tale. There are so many twists and turns you have to stay on your feet to keep up. Somehow our author makes this all work; there is a certain kind of magic when a writer can make you believe in the unbelievable. I was kept on the edge of my seat wondering how we were going to have our classic Historical Romance “happy every after”! How on earth was this all going to work out?It all works out because Ms. Bennett knows how to write; she has a complex well thought out plan which we the reader can relish. This is a very well written book, one that I highly recommend you try. If you don’t care for the sensual read I’d suggest you move on to another story. If you love a full package of sensuality, mystery, risks and conclusion then this is the book for you. I hope you like it as much as I did….. Enjoy now~

It had a perfect blend between love, betrayal, secret lover, devilishly handsome man and lady-in-disguise.Lady Beauchamp ran away from her fear of being infected by syphilis from her husband. She decided to go immediately and disguised herself as Mrs. Beth Elliot, the widow of Liutenant Elliot to work as governess in Eilean Tor Castle. What she didn't expect was that there was no longer a child in that castle, but instead the enigmatic father who wanted her service. Marquess of Rothsburgh, James Huntly, wanted Mrs. Elliot the moment he held her when she fell. She was truly beautiful with her angelic feature and blond hairs. He seduced her until she agreed to be his mistress. Soon, their hearts were thrown in a mix and everything started to go wrong. Her past started to catch up to her. Will their love survive from the secret and betrayal?I love this story so much. It was a bit controversial and difficult in Beth's case. She wanted to stay a decent woman, but with James's roguish smile, rakish grin and smoldering eyes, how could she refused the offer to be his mistress? Rothsburgh decided that the only way to make Beth stay was by offering her a decent job in her house as a housekeeper, but when his lust ruled over, he made an offer for more."My Beth. My love. My life's blood."The words in the story were really intense and sometimes I can hear my heart pound while reading it. Some made you blush, swoon and soon you will be in love with the hero. The marquess was really passionate and he valued Beth's happiness more than anything. He was willing to open his heart once more. He was arrogant at first but soon he was nothing but kind to her. He bare his mind, body, heart and soul to her.He exceeded the expectation. He had it all: brooding, loving, passionate and caring. This story may have some actions that I disagree about, but these were the one that brought the story alive. The setting of the story was really perfect. A place outside Scotland and it made the mood became mysterious and fierce. The description of the castle was really vivid that I could imagine walking around it.A must read!!!I received a complimentary copy in exchange of an honest review.

Steamy Regency with Sweet Hero and Heroine By Susan If you are looking for a Regency romance, steamy love scenes, with a Gothic undertone, this book is for you. I fell in love with the hero, James and the heroine, Elizabeth aka Beth. The book draws you in right from the first page. Elizabeth, The Countess of Beauchamp, is on the run from her husband Hugh, The Earl Of Beauchamp. She has found out that her husband, Hugh, has syphilis and he now wants Elizabeth to have his heir. Elizabeth knows that she has to escape so she runs to Scotland and masquerades as Mrs Beth Eliott a widowed governess for The Widower, The Marquess of Rothsburgh aka James. The story really takes off when Beth and James meet.I like that you don't have to wait till the end of the book for the hero to find out the real identity of the heroine. I like the twist that the author throws in. Make sure you have some tissues handy.Amy Rose, do I see a possible story about the mysterious Lord Markham? Hope so
