America watches with alarm as China prepares to invade Russia’s Far East. How will Russia react? Will it go nuclear? As the White House burns the midnight oil in an attempt to stop China doing a Putin - invading to liberate fellow Chinese suffering under the Russian yoke - a fresh threat appears. The sun has developed a bad case of acne. We follow Craig Britkin as he attempts to resolve the myriad problems, and define his feelings toward Esme Simms, a beautiful young scientist from the Space Weather Center sent to advise him on the sun.

The only accurate review was that it was thought provoking?? I had to do a lot of thinking about the historical and factual inaccuracies in this book. I know that this is a work of fiction and an author has a certain licence to distort some facts, albeit not major ones. I was also lectured about how wrong our health care system is compared to England's and his interpretation of our 2nd amendment (gun laws) of our constitution, but to have it done by someone who said that Leonid Brezhnev was the president of the USSR in the 1990's was insulting. I finished this book only because I always do but I don't even remember how it ended but thank God it did.

For example, he often uses "this worthy" as a substitute for "he"; or he uses "people carrier" as a substitute for "van" or "bus"; he uses "dipped" for "low-beam" headlights, and so on. The story sounds like he originally wrote it in English, then had Google translate it to some fairly obscure language - let's say Cambodian - and then had Google translate the Cambodian version back to English again - with NO EDITOR involved anywhere at all. I've never seen anything like it. The story itself is okay however. With proper editing, maybe a three or four star story.

I'm sure the various world events would probably occur as described in the story. I study astronomy as a hobby and agree with the author the chain of events following the development of a super large sunspot. Our world has been missed by most of the solar flares ejected by our sun except by the Carrington Event back in the mid 1800s which would have been a civilization smasher today.
