About the Author Jules Verne (1828 - 1905) Jules Gabriel Verne (8 February 1828 – 24 March 1905) was a French writer who pioneered the science fiction genre. He is best known for his novels Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870), Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), From the Earth to the Moon (1865), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873). Many of his novels involve elements of technology that were fantastic for the day but later became commonplace. Non-stop adventure without the usual morbidity which seems inherent in so many 19th century works of literature. One of the first books that really enthralled me and showed me that within the pages of a book hides an entire magical universe of astounding adventures and characters. Verne was a maestro at bringing the unbelievable and magnificent to life in his readers' minds and this is one of his most celebrated masterpieces.

Another Action Packed Installment By Zeenakwon Synopsis: Magic is still poisoned, the veiled are infect people left and right, and Allie still can't use her magic. Oh let's not forget both the Authority and the Cops are out to get her. Allie and her friends (who are fugitives from the corrupted authority) are out to save the day and save magic.Review: Another solid installment. Devon Monk has created a truly action and magic filled world where you are always at the edge of your pants. This book probably has the least relationship development among Allie and her dad or other people, but we see a lot of relationship development between other characters. Shame and Terric is probably the most important relationship we see developing and progressing. And it was beautiful. Then again, everything with Shame is beautiful :-PWe learn more about the creepy Collins and Cody. And all of our favorites characters are there. The final battle scene is so epic and written so well, you can see it unfolding. The book really set you up for what is the come in the final Allie Beckstrom book. The cliffhanger left my jaws dropped and wanting the next book in my hands.I still have a problem with some of the plot points coming across as confusing. The pace in the novel is so fast, it is easy to miss important details.I love this series and I really encourage people to read it. It's an action packed, heart felt addition to the series.Sex: No sex, some kissing.Violence: Pretty violent book, but nondescript violence. You don't have to have a strong stomach, but you do need to be okay with fighting scenes.Rating: 4 out of 5 starsSeries rating: 4 out of 5 starsQuote:"Do we get weapons?" Shame asked.I nodded. "Bowling balls."(. . .)"Is there a weight limit?" Terric finally asked, wiping at his face."Oh, hell, no," Shame said. "If I'm going to bludgeon you to death with a bowling ball, I'm taking a sixteen-pounder into the ring. Get it over with fast.""Humane of you," Terric noted."Straight from my heart." Shame tapped his chest.Next Book: Magic for a Price comes out November 6th, 2012 according Amazon.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Yet Another Stellar Installment By A Book Obsession.. With Magic unusable to Allie, and everyone under the sun out hunting for her, including the magic council called the Authority, Allie's own freedom is a ticking time bomb. Of course more than just her freedom is at stake because capture would mean losing her mind, literally. Stripping minds is the Authority's standard procedure for renegades. Unfortunately, she cannot lay low until the tide changes as Magic has been poisoned. Allie and her friends are the only ones who are willing and hopefully able to fix things before more lives are lost. But more stands in her way than just the police and the Authority as a nasty death magic user has set his sights on consuming the only thing that can heal magic, and she'll have to stop him before it's too late.It will never cease to amaze me just how much of a whirlwind Allie is. She draws people to her like a moth to a flame, but cannot be corrupted. In fact, she seems to be the only person the corrupted sections of the Authority cannot seem to put down. Of course she wouldn't have made it this far without her friends, but their utter loyalty to her only further shows her strength and fortitude. Yet despite all this, Allie still cannot quite grasp her true worth. Yes she has her own inner confidence in her skill as a magic user, but as a leader, not so much. However, I think a lot of the events in Magic Without Mercy may have started to open up her eyes, and once she fully believes in herself, she will only be that much stronger. It completely baffles me that with such a far reaching organization as the Authority, there wouldn't be more checks and balances in place to help stem some of the corruption. Of course the saying goes that absolute power corrupts absolutely, and that is what these people hold. To make matters worse, it doesn't seem like they are corrupted as a whole, but in many different factions with their own agendas are in the mix. Perhaps that could be explained arrogance, in that these people are so full of themselves that they couldn't possibly believe that they could be fooled or ruined by another. Ironically, their downfall will probably be the very thing that got them into power in the first place. One of the most impressive things about Magic Without Mercy was Devon Monk's ability to keep a perfect balance between action and character development. In a lot of series after the first few books the focus on the characters seems to drastically drop in favor of plot or series momentum, which can be a shame as it is easy to become detached from characters when you don't see them grow. The fact that this series doesn't, pretty much guarantees me a fantastic read with each new installment. In Magic without Mercy we see lots of character development; From Allie's overwhelming need to be the protector despite a certain lack of confidence in her leadership skills as well as her acceptance of her father's haunting, to Shame and Terric's strange love hate relationship, and even to some of the older members of the group learning to hand over the reins. Each character goes through changes, be they forward or backwards in progress, keeping me fully attached to each of them, and this series overall. As for this installment, from start to finish, Magic Without Mercy was a roller coaster ride. I simply could not put it down!

Allie and her friends are in a race to find a cure for the poisoned magic that is killing people and with magic making Allie sick, she has to depend on her friends and more conventional means to keep herself safe from those who are hunting them.I am still completely lost when it comes to Allie's father. One minute I felt like he is truly interested in helping Allie, and the next I'm convinced he has a massive ulterior motive. I'm also still really upset about Allie not having her personal interior magic still. I don't know why but it really bugs me. I love Allie and Zayvion even more as the books pile on. Shame and Terric continue to be my favorite two allies involved in Allies life and I love reading about their love hate relationship. There is always a ton of action involved and story development added with each Allie book. Just when you think Allie will be able to catch a break the ending throws a massive curve ball in her plans and moves her back into battle mode. By the last page you know where the story is going next and I cant wait to read how it plays out.

Teacher As an English teacher for high-school age boys I always am looking for a good new sci-fiction book. The boys love that stuff. I would say that Wave Mandate is the best sci-fiction book I've seen since Ender's Game. It is a book any teen age boy would like. The mystery in the book keeps the pages turning. The action scenes are amazing. I could feel my own adrenaline build up!Thumbs up to the author and looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Once I picked it up, it was extremely difficult to put down. This engaging story is filled with twists and turns that consistently engage the reader. The characters are well developed, and there's plenty of action and intelligent dialogue to keep the story moving at a steady pace. This book has it all and then some: A great story, characters you can genuinely connect with, scenes described in vivid detail that draws you further into the story, mystery, humor, action, and a desire to want to read the subsequent parts of the story the author will release next. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I'm eager to read more from this extremely talented author.

68 of 78 people found the following review helpful. Not sure I'm still reading the same series By Bookphile Major spoilers ahead, folks. Read at your own risk. What is it with these YA books that cause me so much cognitive dissonance? I find it so bizarre when I read a book, adore it, eagerly anticipate the sequels, and am ultimately left dazed and confused, wondering how the heck I got here in the first place. It's like I got on a plane to go on a trip to Paris but when I disembark I find myself slogging through sewers. I'm very sorry to say that Penryn and the End of Days fits this bill. The first book was so amazing, and I loved it and gushed over it so much that I keep wondering if I was hallucinating or something, because I sure don't want to gush over this book. Where the second book was disappointing, this one was a complete letdown. What happened to Penryn? When did her personality transplant occur? I don't remember too much about the second book, other than that I didn't like it much and was afraid it was going in a bad direction, so I can't speak to her character in that book. I do remember, though, that the character in this book bears very little resemblance to the character in that first book. Penryn goes from hard and kick ass, responsible for protecting her family, to a self-absorbed lovesick teenager. What gives? I could totally understand her feeling some ambivalence about the drastic change her sister has gone through, and this book gives some lip service to Penryn's wanting to save her, but mostly she doesn't worry about it because she's too busy mooning over Raffe. Why? Why do YA novels do this constantly? Yes, we're idiots in love, and, yes, love can make us do stupid things, but when young women are dedicated to something and committed to it, falling in love is not going to make them chuck everything else away with both hands. I really hate when authors sell female characters short like this. I really hate when they continue to reinforce the message that the most important thing in a woman's life is to be loved by a really, really hot guy. I'm not saying that people don't make sacrifices for love, because they do, and sometimes women do give up everything for someone they love. What I am saying is, does it occur to YA authors ever that it's possible for women to find a balance? To be in a meaningful, passionate relationship yet still manage to be focused on other goals? If you read YA, you wouldn't think so, and yet real world examples are plentiful.I was so frustrated and sometimes angry with certain aspects of this novel. The biggest, most egregious example comes about when Penryn manipulates Raffe's hand so he's fondling her while he sleeps. This is not okay. Ever. Under no circumstances is this behavior okay. Period. Ever. She does not have the right to willfully violate him by having him do something he's made clear he doesn't want to do. If the situation were reversed and she woke up to his having manipulated her into fondling him, I can imagine the uproar. Yet this book makes it sound like it's okay because she's a woman and he's a man and men always want it? No. No, no, no, no, no. No.Eventually, though, she somehow manages to wear Raffe down because, again, apparently people in books are never ever able to sacrifice their romantic inclinations for their larger ambitions or beliefs. Whatever. That aside, I could not get over how insane I thought it was when, trapped in a hellscape from which they must escape or face eternal torment and torture depicted in very graphic terms, Penryn and Raffe take advantage of being alone to make out. What? In what reality would anyone facing mortal peril decide to get frisky rather than trying to figure out how to save their own skin? If you're going to add romance to a book like this, it needs to be done in quiet moments, when the characters have a breather from the constant danger in their lives, not when they're in the middle of a dire situation. It's nonsensical. So many other elements of the book take a backseat to Penryn's annoying swooning over Raffe. She does feel twinges of conscience here and there, but they never stop her from doing idiotic things, nor do they instill in her a sense of urgency to actually act. The plot basically consists of Penryn and co rushing from one disaster scenario to another all while Penryn thinks about how great Raffe's abs are. It gets old very quickly because I never once had the sense that I ought to worry about any of it. I don't need to worry when locust husks burst out from the ground during the show Uriel puts on, because Penryn is more concerned with how magnificent Raffe looks. I don't need to worry about Penryn, Raffe, and his warriors being trapped by Pit bosses because Raffe is just so darn hot. I don't need to worry about Penryn's sister possibly starving to death because Raffe's wings really need to get sewn onto his back before they wither completely. Yes, secondary characters are there, but they exist on the periphery of Penryn's consciousness because her main concern is always Raffe. What happened to the girl in the first book, the one who was willing to face off against an angel so that she could save her sister? Oh, right, she's now busy swooning over that angel and so has no time to be as concerned about Paige's condition as she should be.It's so obvious that this book has shifted from a post-apocalyptic narrative to a romance novel, which makes so many other elements feel forced. Tweedledum and Tweedledee really got on my nerves because their "banter" never comes close to feeling organic. They're there to add color, to help smooth the edges of the unrelentingly graphic and grotesque nature of what's happening in the book--not that any of that matters because, again, Raffe is hot. The twins felt so stereotypical to me, and their behavior was flat-out annoying.I won't go into the ending. I just can't. I was consumed with disbelief when I read it. I tried really hard to ignore that, to look at the talent show as being an out-of-the-box plan, but I just really failed. There were many opportunities for humanity to shine at other stages in the book, but it never does. Instead, it puts on a talent show at zero hour. How this was a legitimate battle plan, I'll never understand. Humanity makes its last stand courtesy of ballet and acoustical guitar performances, with a little help from stage lighting and really loud rock music. Yeah, that happened. So why two stars instead of one? Well, there are some things I think this book did right, which makes everything wrong with it all that much more disappointing. For one, I like that the humans in the book don't all get along and band together. I like that Penryn is still capable of looking unflinchingly at humanity, knowing it's often bad and selfish and mean, but still doesn't deserve total annihilation. I like that she understands that Raffe's objectives might not mesh with hers, and that she gets why he feels that way. I just don't like that it leads to her doing stupid, stupid things. I like that the ending isn't all unicorns and rainbows, that the world is crappy and has a long way to go. There's an intense realism to these books that I admire, especially when plenty of other YA airbrushes the bad, pulling things back just enough that it doesn't get too scary or bleak for its characters. This series had so much potential that it's especially painful to see it all wasted. It's not that the romance shouldn't have happened, it's that the romance was poorly done within the world's context. It's that, while the book does go into some interesting moral questions, none of that is given any real page space or substance because it's quickly pushed aside in favor of standard, run-of-the-mill teen romantic angst. This series could have been so much more, but instead it's relegated itself to the realm of the forgettable and generic.

59 of 69 people found the following review helpful. Bitterly disappointing By Nat Believe me, it hurts to give this book a 2 star review given that I loved the first 2 books so much. I had waited patiently for a year for this book to come with such high hope for a fantastic conclusion to the series, so much hope that it left a bitterly disappointing taste when I finished the last page.So many unanswered questions and so many loose ends. What was the back story that lead to Penryn's mother's craziness?Where did she get the idea of using rotten eggs to ward off hellions from? How did she know that they even existed? What happened to the stitched up children with razor-sharp teeth that got out?Obi just died a stupid, quick death and left everything to Penryn like that?A talent show as a final stand to fight against the angels? It's a miracle that they even found generators powerful enough to run the stereo systems and lights. What happened to the angelic rules regarding Daughters of Men? Did Raffe really just need to admit that he was wrong about Daughters of Men and BOOM, he can stay? He's immortal, what will happen when Penryn gets old and he stays young and smoky hot forever? Move on to the next Daughter of Man? Gosh, I'm so disappointed I want to cry :(((((

15 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Epic, being my wildest hopes By Maureen This is a great series with a fantastic finale. Raffe and Pen are right where we left them in World After. This ending is a test of trust and loyalty, family and species, friendship and bravery, right and wrong. My head was spinning the whole way through. Nothing about this book was predictable. Nothing about this journey was easy for any of them. Tough choices were made. The battle for mankind was epic. Tweedle twins were beyond spectacular. The ending doesn't feel like the end. I'm hoping one day we will return to this world to take a peek at the aftermath. I will be reading this series a few times over.

In the final year of her business degree, Phuong has her future all mapped out. Finish studying, then go home and save her family's business. Until her father dies and it all falls apart. Broke and jobless, she stumbles on a solution: find herself an Australian husband. Fast. She's not looking for love - Phuong doesn't believe in fairy tales. Her marriage will be a business deal, pure and simple. But when she meets her husband-to-be and discovers he's a reclusive rock star living at Romance Island Resort, maybe it's time to believe a girl can live happily ever after.A tiny taste of what's in store:Idly, she clicked on one of the unread messages from some other man whose profile was a sculpted, headless torso, like something cropped from the cover of a romance novel. Mr Six-Pack's message was short:"I'm looking for a woman who knows all fairy tales are lies, but who still hopes one might come true."Reflexively, Phuong clicked on his profile. Mr Six-Pack was a gym junkie, he admitted, who went by the name of Lucky Jason. He worked on a remote island, but it was lonely and he wanted to share his living accommodation with someone who could brighten the darkness at night. Or so he said. She laughed softly before clapping a hand over her mouth at the thought that she might wake Norman. His snores continued, like he was sawing down a tree with his nose in his sleep, so she breathed a sigh of relief and returned to ogling Jason's abs. Desire flooded through her for the first time in months. She hit the reply button. "Which fairy tale did you have in mind, and which character are you? The big bad wolf, the woodcutter or Prince Charming?" Before she could think better of it, she sent the message. The response came back almost instantly: "What would you like me to be? I can cut down everyone keeping you from me, carry you off to my castle like Prince Charming, then turn into the big bad wolf and eat you all up until you scream for joy.""That only happens in books," she whispered to herself, then typed the words and fired them off.Lucky Jason had an answer for that, too: "One day, some romance author will write books about us and a million lonely women will crave the sort of sex you only have to ask for."Arrogant much? "No one's that good. What if I'm after Prince Charming, a man who loves me, listens to me and wants to take care of me, and I'm not interested in sex?""Prince Charming is a prick who'll smother you and turn jealous if you look at anyone else. He'll lock you in a tower and never let you out. And he wouldn't know what to do with his own c*ck, let alone your body. Prince where-do-I-put-my-prick. That's not me, babe.""No? You don't get jealous? What do you do when your girl looks at another man?""Grin and wink at the guy while my arm's around her. He'll never be me and never have what I do, but that's cool. Not everyone's as awesome as me. Let me show you, babe."Romance Island Resort seriesThis is the second book in the Romance Island Resort series, which includes:

The Rock Star's Email Order Bride (Romance Island Resort Series Book 2), by Demelza Carlton

About the Author Demelza Carlton has always loved the ocean, but on her first snorkelling trip she found she was afraid of fish. She has since swum with sea lions, sharks and sea cucumbers and stood on spray-drenched cliffs over a seething sea as a seven-metre cyclonic swell surged in, shattering a shipwreck below. Sensationalist spin? No - Demelza tends to take a camera with her so she can capture and share the moment later; shipwrecks, sharks and all. Demelza now lives in Perth, Western Australia, the shark attack capital of the world. The Ocean's Gift series was her first foray into fiction, followed by the Nightmares trilogy. She swears the Mel Goes to Hell series ambushed her on a crowded train and wouldn't leave her alone. To get an email whenever Demelza releases a new title AND get a free book, sign up for her VIP newsletter at demelzacarlton.com (just copy and paste into your browser).

He would be the kind of star you crushed on until that moment he opened his mouth. This novel sees him in all his raw inadequacy with a touch of refreshing comedy. One of my favourite laugh-out-loud bits was when he was asked to leave and handcuffed himself to a potted palm with his fluffy pink cuffs. When nobody was looking he dragged the palm along a series of corridors to where he wanted to be anyway and stayed there all night, still handcuffed to it, despite having the key and having left a trail of dirt along his route. He’s hilarious. This novel touches upon the very sad realities for Mail Order Brides and what life sometimes becomes for them. They end up as the prisoners of sex predators, prostituting themselves in return for citizenship or visas. It’s not until the end that the reader gets to see how well this has been set up right from the start of the first book. I understand now why I was meant to hate Jay Felix, why he bought the resort and where the series has the potential to go. There’s a neat cluster of characters now who have the potential to be more than extras and become contributing members of the cast in a series which could go on for many books to come. Well written as always and enjoyable to the last word.

By Shelley Haase Demelza Carlton's second book in her Romance Island Resort Series continues to keep me entertained. Though it is a stand alone, I would highly recommend reading the first book in the series, so you can fully appreciate Jason and his unusual rock star antics. I could not get enough of him in either book. I love his sense of humor and adventure. I was constantly laughing out loud. Demelza Carlton is a fantastic writer and has a way of drawing me in, and not letting go!In this story, Jay has given up on finding love traditionally and has resorted to looking for it on-line. He is convinced he needs to have a wife and what better way, than to meet one through email.Phoung has everything planned out for her future, until her family decides to cut her off financially. With only having one year left of school, she is determined to find a way to make it on her own. The last thing she expects to find is a way out of her miserable situation. As a last resort she decides to risk it all, but will it pay off or make everything worse?

Merrill Hinton is a lightning rod in a town named for bad weather. He's an ace in math, but not smart enough to put together the pieces of his puzzling life, especially where finding his unknown father is concerned.

Musical genius Robbie Stubbs was born in nearby polygamist compound Colorado City. He has the chops to become another John Coltrane, but that will take running away from home, and into a firestorm of controversy--the kind his friend Merrill knows best.

Merrill sets Robbie onto a course that could rocket them both onto center stage, but being the focus of wide public attention will create serious issues. Robbie's mother is not well, and the shock of her son breaking the family rules like this may put her over the edge.

And Merrill Hinton? His precarious future will be compromised in ways he doesn't yet realize.

Review "Robbie is everything I expected him to be without feeling cliche. That's an accomplishment. He felt real. His problems were heart breaking and I wanted to slap a few people on his behalf. My favorite line in the book is where Robbie talks about still being in prison. Being an artistic person myself, I could relate to that." --Charity Bradford, author The Magic Wakes

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Unlikely and Heartwarming By Kit-Kat75 Merrill is an extremely smart high school student, but he doesn't do well socially. He doesn't know his dad, has a mom who is a big activist and helps rescue polygamous victims, and a sweet grandma who tells him how it is. He's trying to figure out who he is and what he wants to do with his life. A random meeting with Robbie, a boy from the nearby polygamist compound, changes Merrill's life. Robbie is a genius when it comes to music and will do almost anything to succeed, even giving up his family.Merrill and Robbie are so similar, yet so different. They come from different worlds, but they both show a lot of bravery and strength. I love Merrill's grandma--she is so accepting and loves those around her unconditionally.I love the unlikely friendship that forms when decisions are made and opportunities are taken to embark on this road to growing up. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how I feel after reading this. I was excited, nervous, and happy for these boys, yet my heart was wrenched in places and I felt emotionally drained. There were a few parts that I wish had been fleshed out just a little more, but overall, this was a great journey with well-written characters and a fantastic setting.Content: mild language (a few mild words); mild religious elements (one boy is a Mormon and one is FLDS, but not much religion is discussed, aside from a few morals each has--definitely not preachy); very mild romance (very brief mention of an unwed mother, crushes); very mild violence (brief mention of abuse).*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review*

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A tale of friendship, music, and fathers By Jaren B Wilson Hurricane Coltrane is set in Hurricane, Utah. Merrill is a smarty-pants high schooler with an activist mom and a peaches-dehydrating grandma and no known father, and he is dying to get out of town.He meets Robbie, a buttoned-up kid who's escaped from the nearby polygamist compound. And who is also a musical genius. These two plot together, get Robbie an alto sax, and land Robbie a spot on an X-Factor type of reality show. Merrill even gets to play his trombone as backup. But Robbie's mom and sisters are suffering back on the compound because Robbie got out, and Merrill's starting to unravel the mystery of who his father might be--and whether that means he'll never break out of Hurricane, Utah.I have a soft spot for friendship stories, because that's such a huge part of high school and is something I don't see in books as much as I'd like. Merrill and Robbie have an unlikely friendship, and they both have to navigate the social waters of high school.I really, really loved the setting for this story. I've never been to southern Utah, so diving into the peach harvesting and pomegranate dehydrating and the Mormon community and the polygamist compound and the heat and the small-town vibe was fun.And the main character, Merrill, has the most delightful voice and funny personality. It was a pleasure to spend time with him as a character.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I enjoyed Hurricane Coltrane a great deal. By simmaren I enjoyed Hurricane Coltrane a great deal. I appreciated Ms. Okerlund's sensitive portrayal of the developing relationships among the principal characters, and in particular the growing pains experience by Merrill, a maturing but not mature male high school genius/nerd who can't seem to find a good fit in either square holes or round holes. The music theme was well done and interesting -- I played a trombone in high school and could identify with everything except the talent. I also liked that the polyg subculture, essential to the plot, wasn't sensationalized as it might have been. Bad people are bad people no matter where they are found. Ms. Okerlund's descriptions were vivid and effective -- I could feel the heat and smell the dust as I read, and her book was (in a way) an introduction to a part of the country that most of us haven't experienced and might like. The plot twist involving Merrill's father was a bit unlikely but explained a lot that was mysterious about Merrill's mom, an admirable character with believable flaws. Highly recommended, and I'd like to read Ms. Okerlund's next book.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Loved This Series...A Must Read! By H. Wish I loved this series and fell in love with the characters that Ilsa created. Be prepared for a series full of angst, emotion, love and healing. I highly recommend it!Very Bad ThingsReally enjoyed the book. Was feeling a bit down and reading it made me feel better. Thoroughly enjoyed Nora and her unusual tendencies and ways of coping with the horrible things she endured in life. She comes from a rich lifestyle, where her parents have other more important things to do than deal with Nora. Certain things are expected from her and she has had it with trying to constantly please them. She meets a friend at Briarcrest (Sebastian) and they form a friendship that helps her cope with life. Sebastian is being raised by his older brother Leo. Leo and Nora have such hot chemistry that turns into so much more.Very Wicked ThingsWe first met Cuba in Very Bad a Things. He is a bit of a player and doesn't think twice about his love them and leave them style. One of those girls happens to be Dovey. VWT is their story. Dovey is a girl from the wrong side of the tracks and doesn't quite fit in at Briarcrest. She has a love for dance and hopes that after graduation she will be able to what she loves. She is still heartbroken over Cuba and the way he just left her. They both guard their hearts, but for reasons that are well worth it to them. They learn that sometimes you need to lean on someone and trust them enough to let them in. This was a story that pulled me through a lot of different emotions. It's full of angst, healing and love. I highly recommend this book!!Very Twisted ThingsIlsa has done it again. This series is fabulous. You can't get any hotter than rock and roller-actor Sebastian Tate and phenomenal violinist Violet St Lyons. Holy heck they smoke up the pages. Sebastian hit the big time with his friends from Briarcrest and created the band Vital Rejects. They move to LA where he becomes mesmerized by his neighbor. She plays violin and Sebastian soon finds himself watching her through binoculars. Violet has had a major tragedy in her life that Sebastian can relate to. They become friends and lovers, but Sebastian is somewhat seeing someone and he also is afraid of commitment. Violet wants more and refuses to take second fiddle to another girl. They keep having this pull between them that is so strong. All I can say is the scene that Violet strips down on the balcony and plays violin knowing Sebastian is watching through the binoculars was scorching hot. Loved this book and I highly recommend it.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Good, but... By Amazon Customer Most of these stories were very heavy on the girl having to convince the guy she was worth it, dealing with countless rejection. The guys were so broody that they wasted everyone's time trying to figure out that, yes, indeed, their soulmate was right in front of them. Perhaps this is just a romantic theme that doesn't resonate with me. The writing was solid (only minor errors here and there) and I will be looking at other books by this author.

Linares Julio is an inspirational story of two orphaned Peruvian cousins who through hard work and dedication improve the financial and educational aspects of their lives, as well as their personal well being. Julio, who is much younger than Esperanza, shows great talent for business, is a humanitarian and a people's person. He and Esperanza are sponsored in order to immigrate to the USA where they hold various jobs and attend college part-time. Both of them meet their future spouses and end up owning a classy restaurant called The Friendly Chalet. Their stories move fast and in an ascending motion thanks in part to people who offer them the opportunity to succeed. Julio is a charming novel interspersedwith details of Peruvian and Quechua cultures and it makes for interesting reading. This is Mrs. Marting's fourth book and like all her previous ones, it is not only entertaining but it offers food for thought. I highly recommend it.

Very good, couldn’t put down By Ruchi Gupta I prefer reading romances where the heroine is not the stereotypical PA or secretary or jewellery designer not that I have anything against them. However, there are women astronauts and neurosurgeons and entrepreneurs and I am sure they too have romance in their lives! And I hate it when romance novels are filled with stories where women’s career or profession is non-prime. Anyways that is one of my pet peeve. Which brings me to this novel. The heroine is a well-educated successful professional! That sold the book for me. The heroine is a big talker, does not pull punches and is pretty determined when she sets her mind to it and the hero had his work cut out. The story is well-written and the narration is excellent. It was funny in places.Last but not the least, I loved the locale. If there was one thing I disliked it was the fact that the heroine is no good at anagrams! LOL! Read and enjoy.

Although I enjoy this author, there are several errors such as typos, terminology, and/or geographical. I'm going to say it (geographical and terminology errors) could be a direct result of the author being British. When she refers to the heroine being in Las Vegas, she has the Americans in which the hero and heroine interact with speaking in British slang (such as the use of the word "Mate" referring to friend). In addition, the author referred to someone flying from Arizona to Phoenix but Phoenix is the city located in the state of Arizona. There was also the use of the word escalator instead of elevator. This could also be a British terminology or typo. Those are a few of the errors that were distracting to me as the reader. Not to sound like a Negative Nancy, I did like the plot as well as the characters. I think with a good editor and more oomph it will be a great story. I will read this story again and I would recommend as long as the purchaser or reader takes into consideration the issues I've pointed out.

Love the Legend By Shanoff Says... **I had the opportunity to BETA read this book**I am not going to give anything away because there are something's that just need to be found out on your own.Kennedy and Grayson met at a young age and both grew up in less than great lives...heck their lives were less than period. But they had each other...until they didn't.Things happened, lines crossed, friendships left behind and lives definitely changed. For Grayson it was fame and fortune. For Kennedy it was a great loss and living a comfortable life in a small town. When their paths cross again and secrets are revealed things really start to escalate. This book was a really emotional read for me. It was hard for me not to get choked up when all the secrets finally come to light.I felt so terrible for both Grayson and Kennedy. I hated that they both had to come to grips with some something so heavy when they are reunited. But I do love that after the eventual shock of it being revealed and after the anger dissipated that both of them leaned on each other. I like the determination that Grayson had to be more in the know. I like all of his actions even his anger because it was real. I loved that Kennedy stepped up and helped Grayson however she could even though it wore her up. I really liked the support that they had with their friends. The end of this book blew me away. It was such a perfect ending and it was really beautiful to me.This book is another of my favorites by Stacey Lynn.

By Rosanna Ingram * I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review *Kennedy and Grayson were best friends growing up. They both have rough lives at home, and they find the peace and serenity they desire when they are together. However, when Kennedy returns home from college, lines get crossed and their friendship is changed forever. When they see each other six years later, how will they act towards each other? They are both holding secrets...what will happen when those secrets come out? Can they be friends again or has too much damage been done?I found this story entertaining and filled with all the "feels" one would expect from such a book. The range of emotions throughout the book are all over the place...from anger to sadness, from anxiousness to happiness, and everything in between...but they are all a welcome necessity to get through the book. I found myself rooting for Kennedy and Grayson to work everything out, but understanding all the reasons that could potentially keep that from happening. I had to finish the book in one sitting because there was no way I was going to be able to walk away before I knew how it ended!!

Needless to say I was happy in answering an email to review this book. I am not going to give you the synopsis of this book, you can read that yourself. With that being said, the plot line alone seems it could have been taken from reality. The characters are well thought out and in depth with their feelings and actions. During certain "scenes" it felt as if I was right there witnessing what was happening first hand. This a quick read that could have your emotions tangled up and always rooting for the couple. Highly recommend Just One Regret.

By Reading Rose Let me begin by stating that if you are looking for a light, breezy Summer read, this book is NOT it. Having said that, I feel that Unwanted Truths is a title that deserves a place of honor on your "TBR" (to-be-read) list. The storyline touches on a number of subjects that may be considered difficult, including adoption, cancer, marital affairs, attempted suicide, and death. Ms. Haddon approaches these elements from the characters' points-of-view with a sense of honest realism. I think the reader is able to understand the emotions behind the actions as the plot develops. There were portions of the story that read a bit slower than others. Occasionally I found myself lost in the details, and I would have to go back and re-read the last couple of paragraphs to be sure I had characters identified properly or to confirm to which character a dialogue was pertaining. In my opinion, this in no way detracted from the story. The details given turned out to be necessary ones, as later in the plot there were several "ah ha!" moments of clarity. Another positive that I would like to point out is the historical accuracy (based on my personal knowledge -- I did not research facts in depth) of the time period. As a fan of historical fiction, I was impressed with many of the details presented which helped to more clearly define the lives of Jenny, Robert, Martin, and their families as they transitioned through the decades. When I reached the last page of the novel (keeping in mind that I read the e-book format), I kept flicking my screen in an attempt to turn to the next page. There wasn't one! The story comes to a rather abrupt ending. At first I was stunned. I needed more! However, after a moment of reflection, I realized that it really could not have ended differently. I thoroughly enjoyed Unwanted Truths and would be delighted to recommend it. ★★★★

It was exactly what I expected: only worth the $2.99 and unnecessary. The story moved along to quickly and there were a lot of unrealistic moments. I won't be reading the next book.

Pinnacle Event: A Novel, by Richard A. Clarke

Review

“Clarke delivers an edge-of-your-seat race across the planet that keeps you guessing until the very end.” ―KYLE MILLS

“An engrossing and captivating story. Richard A. Clarke's gripping and explosive novel, Pinnacle Event is based on South Africa's secret nuclear weapons program. This fascinating yet frightening account on how the apartheid regime built nuclear weapons, secretly stored and sold them was written with methodical historical accuracy. Only a professional government insider with Clarke's unique credentials would have the expertise to write such an accurate account of this secret program.” ―DON MANN, author of Inside SEAL Team Six

“A complex and well-executed plot that speculates on what happened to the nuclear weapons South Africa said it destroyed, readers won't easily see where this one's headed. Thriller lovers no longer need the USSR and the Cold War for a scary-good story--just lose track of a few A-bombs for an exciting and all-too-plausible novel.” ―Kirkus Reviews

“Clarke continues to do what so many Washington insiders who attempt to write fiction fail to do: combine real-life intelligence details with a story that offers both narrative drive and full-bodied characters. This one will please political geeks and action fans.” ―Booklist

“Insider knowledge of politics paired with amazing state-of-the-art technical details fuels this realistic nonstop action thriller, the best yet from Clarke... [Clarke] has set the standard by which all such titles in this growing subgenre will be measured.” ―Publishers Weekly (starred boxed review) on Sting of the Drone

“Well worth reading, both for its quality as a riveting tale and for the issues it exposes.” ―Kirkus Reviews on Sting of the Drone

“Sting of the Drone is a jet-fueled race through a world where the sky itself can be your worst enemy.” ―Seattle Post-Intelligencer

“Clarke does a terrific job showcasing how the drone program works and revealing something about the men and women behind the scenes who use the machines.” ―Booklist on Sting of the Drone

“On rare occasions a thriller comes along that turns out to be prophecy: Sting of the Drone is one of them. This rip-snorting thriller may be the best unclassified peek you will ever get on the new high-tech offensive in the war against terrorism. A seminal, prophetic, troubling must-read.” ―STEPHEN COONTS

“This one smacks so much of reality you'll swear it's real. Written in a deft hand, by a man who knows what he's talking about, the take-no-prisoners plot serves up a banquet of high drama, action, and adventure. A great read.” ―STEVE BERRY on Sting of the Drone

“It's rare a novel is written ahead of the headlines, but the plot of Sting of the Drone is just that book. If you've wondered what it's like to be inside the U.S. Predator drone program, your wait is over. Prepare for your hand to take hold of the joy stick, your heart to lodge firmly in your throat. Tom Clancy takes to the air. Put this book on your radar.” ―RIDLEY PEARSON on Sting of the Drone

“What Tom Clancy did for submarines, Richard A. Clarke does for drones. Fascinating and frightening, Sting of the Drone moves as fast as the new kind of warfare that it depicts, with authentic details that only someone with the author's impressive insider credentials could know. This first-rate thriller . . . a cross between a techno-thriller and a docu-thriller, ought to be required reading for anyone who wants to know the current status of the battle against terrorism.” ―DAVID MORRELL

“Sting of the Drone is a riveting page-turner that goes deep into the complex world of those who hunt with, and are hunted by, military drones. Rich with detail and informed by his expertise in national security, Richard Clarke brings this hidden world to vivid life.” ―JEFF ABBOTT

“Where Sting of the Drone stands above the rest, and what makes it important for those who have a tendency to shy away from this genre, is in its level of detail.…This is riveting reading.” ―The Washington Post

“Richard A. Clarke's nail-biter suspense novel irrefutably proves that there is nothing like being America's pre-eminent counterterrorism expert to goose up your book with real terror.” ―Vanity Fair on Breakpoint

“His almost three-decade background in intelligence and counterterrorism serves him exceptionally well when he narrates a hair-raising Special Ops assault.” ―The Washington Post on Scorpion's Gate

“Chilling.... [A] harrowing -- and persuasive -- picture of the cyberthreat the United States faces today.” ―Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times, on Cyber War

“[Cyber War] may be the most important book about national-security policy in the last several years.” ―Slate on Cyber War

“In this chilling and eye-opening book, Clarke and Knake provide a highly detailed yet accessible look at how cyber warfare is being waged and the need to rethink our national security to face this new threat.” ―Booklist on Cyber War

“Clarke and Knake are right to sound the alarm.” ―The Wall Street Journal on Cyber War

“From the first thrilling chapter, which takes readers into the White House center of operations on September 11, through his final negative assessment of George W. Bush's post-9/11 war on terror, Clarke, the U.S.'s former terrorism czar, offers a complex and illuminating look into the successes and failures of the nation's security apparatus.” ―Publishers Weekly on Against All Enemies

“Against All Enemies is too good to be ignored.... It is a rarity among Washington-insider memoirs--it's a thumping good read.” ―The New York Times Book Review on Against All Enemies

10 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Not Much Here By Rick Mitchell There is nothing particularly bad about this book, but then, there is nothing particularly good. The concept is a reworked common one: nukes have been stolen by some unknown group. A "super sleuth" who has left the government's employ is brought back to find them. He's aided by a quasi-nerd with the world's greatest computer at his beck and call. The most interesting aspect of this novel is that every world leader who learns of the nukes' existence believes they will aimed at his country. The ending is far too politically correct for any one nation alone to be a target, though. Most of the book recounts our hero's travels around the world, most of which end of being fruitless. The best aspect of the early parts of the books are the analysis of the alcoholic beverages encountered in every stop. The characters could have been interesting, but after initial extremely interesting descriptions, they are not developed at all. Who would think that the guy who has retreated to a Caribbean island to live with two gorgeous women who like to be naked could become a flat colorless character? Or that the same fate could happen to a saxophone wielding computer jockey? The flat characters and fairly unoriginal plot make this a spy novel that does not stand out at all in the genre. A two week search for nukes became a timeless journey in unremarkableness. Go with I AM PILGRIM if you're looking for an up-to-date original spy thriller.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Searching By wogan A Pinnacle Event is one that is of such utmost importance that the top military command needs to be notified immediately. In this novel it is a nuclear explosion that is detected by satellite. It also comes to the attention of an analyst that 5 murders of men from South Africa that were involved in a nuclear arms program were killed at almost the same time in different countries. They also just happened to have acquired about a half million dollars each recently. Putting the pieces of the puzzle together a conclusion is formed that nuclear weapons have been sold to someone. The question is who, where and what are they going to do with them. The American government calls on retired intelligence authority Ray Bowman to leave his island home and lady friends, his bartending and save the US and world economy from this disastrous event. Each nation that becomes involved in the hunt is sure that they are the target - Israel, South Africa and the US. Much is made of the fact that Americans jump to confrontation and assume they are the focus of terrorists' attacks rather than other nations that might be a target.Somehow, even though it is stated, frequently that there is little time until the explosions, suspense and apprehension seems to be lacking. Perhaps it is the lack of detail in actions taken. Although Ray is almost kidnapped, and blown up a couple times it just seems as minor as his affectation for tasting wine as he flies around the globe in search of the ones that have the bombs in their possession. Ray's character and the Zulu lady intelligence officer from South Africa who is working with him just seem to have a dispiritedness. With such a threat the uncertainty and trepidation does just not seem to build.Still for those who are entertained by political thrillers this might be a book they would enjoy. I liked reading it, but it was not one of those books that keeps you up to 4 o'clock in the morning so you can finish it.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Just Okay By Konrad Kern As a bartender now in St. John, Ray Bowman is asked to come out of retirement to help the U.S. stop possible nuclear bombs from going off in, what could be, American cities during the election year. This international thriller is just about average. The characters were okay but not memorable. The locales were many around the world. The writing and intrigue wasn't enough to pull me in yet it was good enough for me to finish.
