The Destroyermen series continues from the New York Times bestselling author of Straits of Hell. The ambitious, long-planned raid on the Grik Empire has grown dangerously ill defined. Only Matthew Reddy, commander of the old destroyer USS Walker, seems focused on the original intent. While many Lemurians see an opportunity to reconquer their stolen homeland, others—Lemurian and human—have their own agendas, which could compromise the Alliance. Complicating matters further is Reddy’s suspicion that his task force is being stalked by some unknown power bent on aiding the Grik for reasons of its own.As the raid begins and chaos reigns, Reddy has no choice but to risk everything in a desperate act that results in a sprawling, nightmare battle on the beaches of “Grik City,” on the very decks of Walker, and in the labyrinthine passageways of the Celestial Palace itself. The final cost could be more than Matt Reddy—or the Alliance—can bear.

By joseph r. thorsky When one tries to give "war" a form, a substance and a meaning that is explainable and comprehensible to those of a generation of Americans who have grown and never really experienced or lived it, is difficult enough today, where "war" is just expected to be antiseptically clean, short lived and perfectly fought under rules and behaviors universally agreed to, expected and followed.Taylor Anderson's latest "Deadly Shores" novel captures "war" as it truly is, and not what we would wish, want or believe it should be. War is humanity and the human condition with all its virtues and its vices, the inspirational and the depressing and all the good and the bad; beautiful and ugly that makes us so much alike and different at the same time. His efforts to capture and describe this essence and state is "Right on target!"(Without the aid of a Norton bombsight) and is indeed deserving of a nodding and the silent smiling approving words of thanks from that special World War II generation of Americans (The Best we had to give) who are slowly but inevitably passing and leaving the World's Stage. Although they may be gone and have left us, it is their everlasting legacy and our own true inheritance which is reflected and demonstrated by our own frail and fragile humanness and the idealism and the reverence that goes from being an "American" that Taylor Anderson correctly identifies in "Deadly Shores".I highly recommend this novel and the entire series to anyone who has a passion for science fiction and history with this cautionary admonition."Warning! Highly Addictive when Read."

By Olin The 9th book in the series - and turning into a never-ending story. There seems to be a trend of such series by a number of prominent authors; i.e., keep publishing as long as they sell. A deadly foe that never is quite defeated or new enemies cropping up whenever one is on the way out. For a new reader, I have no problem recommending the first book in the series - as long as the reader then decides whether they want to continue from there with a series that may never end. By the 9th book there is little new character development. There is also more actions/behavior in this one that makes a reader sit back and think, "Huh?" "That's unbelievable" "I don't buy that behavior/speech", etc. However, having said those things, I still rather liked the book - at least by the criteria of interesting battles and wanting to know more what happens next. Attribute it to the skill of the author. The endless nature of the series and flaws in this volume want me to give it two stars, but four stars for keeping me interest: (2+4)/2=3.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. I liked the early books but now the series is beginning to seem like a soap opera, unending and with no resolution in sight. By John B. I liked the alternate world concept and the books have some good characters. However, as the series has progressed the author has invented more and more enemies to keep the conflict going. It is beginning to turn into a "war porn" series. For those who love battle scenes and lots of gore this would be a good read.
