Excerpt:The first edition of Deam's "Trees of Indiana" was published in 1911. By limiting the distribution, the edition of 10,000 lasted about three years. The demand for a book of this kind was so great that a second edition of 1,000 copies was published in March 1919. This edition was exhausted within five days after its publication was announced, and thousands of requests for it could not be filled. These came from all classes of people, but the greatest demand was from the school teachers of the State.Since forestry is an integral part of agriculture which is now taught in our public schools, and since a book on the trees of the State is in demand, the Conservation Commission has authorized a revised edition of "The Trees of Indiana." What was formerly Bulletin No. 3 of the Division of Forestry is now published as Publication No. 13 of the Department. The reader's attention is called to a new departure in illustrations, which were made from photographic reproductions of specimens in Mr. Deam's herbarium. The photographs were taken by Mr. Harry F. Dietz of the Division of Entomology. It is believed that it will be gratefully received by the public and will stimulate an interest in forestry that should achieve practical results.

Borman I was surprised to see that the book is a reproduction (not a reprint) of a public domain document published before 1923. It is a report by the Indiana Forestry Service in 1911 on an inventory, with some added later comments, of trees growing in Indiana at that time. Although the inventory is out of date, the drawings, especially of the leaves, are clear and helpful to confirm the identity of a tree. There is no guide to finding the identity of a newly found tree.

While it's not a travel book per se, it gave a context that made my travels richer and more rewarding. It took me back to a past that is almost unimaginable when you see these cities today, but when you do visit after reading this book, you can see tantalising traces of a very different world that still peeks through amongst the bustle of modern life. It's a perfect pre-travel guide.

The Satanist is the story of Hyder, an anthropologist living in Lagos, Nigeria with his wife Maryam. While Maryam, a young Pakistani woman who is trying to acclimatize herself with the earthy habitat of Nigeria is faced with domestic challenges bigger than Diaspora - physical abuse, misogyny and a disloyal spouse. Hyder, a disillusioned man cannot find psychological satisfaction anywhere but in Vikki, a younger lover and a Satanist. Through course of their relationship, Hyder struggles with the idea of Satanism but is constantly coaxed by Vikki to enter the Dark realm. For Hyder, the journey of accepting or rejecting Satanism runs through the novel. The story embodies and explores the theoretical presence of Satanism in every society irrespective of race, creed and geography. The story also encompasses the natural beauty of Nigeria and the earthiness of the common Nigerian through Hyder and Maryam's son Harris and his relationships with his buddy Obiyara, friend Zainab, Zainab's mother Binta and his school teacher Malam Yakubu - all of whom become his family more than his real one. The Satanist is Sana Munir's first novel. She is an avid bookworm, is fond of traveling, reading and listening to biographies of celebrities and commonplace people alike, psychology and poetry. The Satanist is set in Nigeria, a place she remembers from her childhood.

We Didn't Know is a work of fiction, revealing the consequences which can occur when family members are estranged or don't even know they're related. Synopsis: So, you have family that isn't your blood and blood that doesn't act a bit like family. Typical wouldn't you say? Throughout our lives, we adopt many as our kin and treat them accordingly, while disowning our own blood and treating them like strangers. Our reasons, are our reasons, right or wrong. King Carter and Serenity Washington are two young adults, preparing to leave home for college who happen to meet by chance. King wasn't looking for a serious relationship and Serenity had recently broken up with her boyfriend of the past 5 years. Their attraction to one another however could be compared to a moth being drawn into a flame and before they know it, they're Dangerously In Love. Typical you might say. But what isn't so typical is the unknown brewing between the two which will burst at the seems when their parents, who are thought to have no prior knowledge of one another meet at a dinner planned by the two to announce their big news! Betrayal, secrets and lies, we've all had our fair share of them all. Those who say, "What you don't know can't hurt you," have obviously never been hurt by what they didn't know...

The suspense of what wasn’t known and who didn’t know it will leave you on the edge of your seat. I truly became entangled in the stories of both King and Serenity. However, nothing could prepare me for what was to come. The love story will leave you captivated. The betrayal will leave you enraged. The secrets will leave you perplexed; the revelation of what wasn’t known will leave you with your mouth wide open in disbelief. Marie Antoinette brings to light the importance of family and forgiveness. Once you have finished reading this phenomenal novel, you may find yourself in deep thought; you may find yourself wondering if this could actually happen to you too. Marie Antoinette totally destroys the saying that “what you don’t know can’t hurt you”. Quite the contrary, what you don’t know could be devastating!

"We Didn't Know" commanded my full attention from the first few pages. I was hoping to read at least a third of it before putting it down. I found this book to be so suspenseful to the point of wanting to put it down for a few seconds to look for someone on "TheBook." It's funny how a well written book is capable of pulling you into the pages as if you were truly one of the characters. I did not put this book down for good until I had read it in it's entirety!!! Oh What a Night!!! Why not treat yourself to ""We Didn't Know?" You deserve it!!!

By maureen Loved the different vignettes and love how Marie keeps pushing the boundaries but always staying real and never afraid to truly tell it like it is. Very different from her first and clearly shows how much she has expanded in her story telling. Highly recommend this book especially for other white folks like myself who truly want to understand what the true experience is growing up black under insurmontable odds and still face so many obstacles to this day.

His stories that center around the character Ryan Mitchell are extremely well written and definite page turners. I read Goliath which was packed full of action so I was excited to see what Barracuda had in store for me. I was not disappointed. From the first chapter to the last the book was full of action. The character Ryan Mitchell is so well developed that you feel like you know the guy.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Another good Richard Turner novel By yukonjack Another good but not great Ryan Mitchell thriller! It was still well worth the read. I have read all 5 in the series but, this one in my humble opinion was not as GOOD as the first four in the series. Not near as much action as the first 4 either. As I said earlier, it WAS still worth the read and I will anxiously await number 6 in the series!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Another great story. By D.A.Mc Well I have finished the series and until another one is written I'll be patiently waiting. I enjoyed reading this series. The characters are true life and the story is well written. Plenty of suspense and thrills to keep your interest. Can't wait to read another one. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

At twenty-four, Elliott Roux is what some might call privileged. She comes from a wealthy Boston family and adores her grandmother. The best part of her week is when the two of them have Sunday brunch together in The Public Garden and watch the swan boats. Elliott has a close-knit group of friends, loves her roommates, has a decent job downtown that doesn’t require much effort, and adores her city. But while her life may seem perfect on the surface, her family is falling apart and she feels like she doesn’t know her mother anymore, maybe never did. And then there’s the issue of men. Elliott is always dating the wrong guys. They seem normal on the first date, but she feels like she brings out the crazy in them. Like the guy who confessed to being an adrenaline junkie, who thought it fun to taser himself. Or the stage-five clinger who suggested on their third date, with no hint of sarcasm, that they get a dog together. Despite her bad luck, Elliott isn’t about to give up on dating. After all, bad dates make for fantastic stories. And really, what’s better than reminiscing with girlfriends over brunch, recounting dates gone awry? It’s just a question of whether Elliott can find a balance between her friends, her family drama, and the social scene in Boston. She is nothing if not determined, and sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs before you find your prince.

By Mpass If you ever grew up struggling through dating, family dynamics, redefined friendships, and just general life, then you won't be able to put this book down! It doesn't just give you the opportunity to read a beautiful story about the main character, Elliot, going through a myriad of mostly hysterical (but sometimes heartbreaking) life situations. But, beyond that, it gives the reader an opportunity to reflect back on their own life and see themselves through Elliot's eyes, and all the trials and tribulations that come with becoming an "adult". Don't miss out on this great read by a great author!

Elliott's story is an easy one for any twenty-something female to relate to By Amy Breckenridge This page-turner follows 24 year old Elliott Roux as she navigates life in Boston post-college and all the curveballs it throws her way. From dating disasters to drama with friends; major changes within her family to questioning her career path, Elliott's story is an easy one for any twenty-something female to relate to. Elliott and I had so much in common that I actually felt like I was reading about my own life during certain parts of the book! I don't want to spoil the story by giving too much away, but I couldn't put the book down and finished it in two days. I definitely recommend this book to all 20-30 year old women and will be sharing my copy with all of my friends. :)

A funny and memorable novel that's sure to suck you in By Amy C Kissing Frogs lures you in from its first pages, telling the story of a 20-something woman trying to navigate confusing dates, family drama, and a balance between carefree fun and adult responsibilities. Stephanie Blackburn's honest and humorous narration is reminiscent of Sex and the City, with unique and memorable stories about a group of close-knit female friends and their adventures with men, the Boston social scene, and finding oneself in an unpredictable world. It's also a story about loyalty to family amidst difficult circumstances and keeping perspective about what's really important. Kissing Frogs is a wonderful combination of funny, serious, and most of all real.

The Grddha Mullick family bursts with marvellous tales of hangmen and hangings in which they figure as eyewitnesses to the momentous events that have shaped the history of the subcontinent. When twenty-twoyear- old Chetna Grddha Mullick is appointed the first woman executioner in India, assistant and successor to her father, her life explodes under the harsh lights of television cameras. When the day of the execution arrives, will she bring herself to take a life? Meera s spectacular imagination turns the story of Chetna s life into an epic and perverse coming-of-age tale. The lurid pleasures of voyeurism and the punishing ironies of violence are kept in agile balance as the drama hurtles to its inevitable climax.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great for tutoring students but not for Iowa Test Prep for Algebra By Anne B. Cook Several sites recommended parents use this book for preparing for the Iowa Test in Algebra Aptitude. I am a local tutor who purchased it for my daughter to prepare, but it was outdated and way too difficult for a pre-algebra student. It does have some excellent problem sets...many of which will be challenging for my honors algebra 2 students, so luckily for me as a tutor, it wasn't a total waste of money.

Presley French is young, beautiful, and someone wants her dead. Someone else—her former English teacher—wants to physically assault her. Someone else—the FBI—wants to interrogate her as a possible terrorist suspect. Someone else—Dani Ripper—wants to protect her, but can’t decide if Presley is insane, or just crazy. With nowhere left to turn, Dani contacts someone else—Donovan Creed—who refuses to get involved unless Dani agrees to owe him an Ultimate Favor. PRELIMINARY COMMENTS: More action in the first few pages than any book I’ve ever read! As always, I can’t decide which of Locke’s quirky supporting characters I like best: this time it came down to Bitter Bob, Stay Busy the Porter, and The Butter Man. I’m giving Stay Busy the nod, by a jellybean. Dani has more pop culture references than an Urban Dictionary, and each one made me laugh. I would have bought this book for the rules of the drinking game alone, which I was ready for, after the dizzying action of the first four chapters.

John brings back some popular characters including Dani Ripper and Donovan Creed. Interesting book with a somewhat dark plot, but lightened by the characters and the humorous bantering among them - one of Locke's trademarks. Thoroughly enjoyed the story. Why the title of this review? You'll have to read the book to find out. It's worth it!

I've been waiting on another Donovan Creed novel to come out, but I didn't get that..I did get a little bit of him in this book. I'll preface this with the fact that I'm not a huge fan of the Danni Ripper series, but because it's Locke, I read them. The problem is that this is NOT how a girl thinks or talks... Danni's character needs some serious reworking....Besides that, it's susspenseful and is a very quick read (about 2 hours). Had good plot twists and kept me wondering for just long enough. I really do love John's writing style, this one just missed to mark for me psersonally but was still a good book. Just not one of his best.

By Donald Hunt This is Book 4 in the Dani Ripper series, and it is agood quick afternoon read.We have, An Affair, A Plane Crash, A Hit Man, A Rape,A Dead Husband, Find Out That The BoyFriend Was Flying ThePlane That Crashed, And A Serial Rapist......all in the first 30 pages. And now we come to the point where Donovan Creed is called......If a criminal is not in CODIS, they must be in WITSEC.But, Don't Tell Presley....Donovan Creed says so.Confused? That's ok, you should be.But don't fear, it all gets resolved in the end.And Presley French becomes a very wealthy lady.
