3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A great pre-travel guide if you're ever visiting the region By JOE ZANDSTRA A really interesting insight into the colonial era of Southeast Asia. While it's not a travel book per se, it gave a context that made my travels richer and more rewarding. It took me back to a past that is almost unimaginable when you see these cities today, but when you do visit after reading this book, you can see tantalising traces of a very different world that still peeks through amongst the bustle of modern life. It's a perfect pre-travel guide.
