As Jess deals with the repercussions of Ravan’s latest earth-shattering actions, she soon realizes that not everything is as it seems. Being surrounded by the enemy on all sides, Jess quickly learns who has her back and who wants to stab it. Once she’s able to carry on with her God given mission, the stakes rise to monstrous proportions for Jess and the other vessels, forcing them to place their lives on the line for a world that is not their own. As events unfold, even Lucifer finds life on alternate Earth not nearly as entertaining as he thought it would be. His disappointment in Lucian’s plan grows exponentially with each catastrophe the princes of Hell unleash. Jess maintains her hope for Lucifer’s soul, however futile, as she witnesses his unease with the happenings on alternate Earth. Even though he professes to hate humanity, Jess sees a glimmer of hope for her friend and refuses to give up on saving his soul. God obviously has His reasons for wanting to protect this particular reality, and even though alternate Earth isn’t their home, Jess and her friends know they must do everything within their power to save it.

The Perfect Ending By KarenM of My Bookbag Judgment begins moments after the cliffhanger at the end of Uprising (Book #2). Jess finds herself bereft of all her memories, and is told she is a friend to Lucian. Despite her suspicions that Lucian is hiding something, she does not see an out for herself. This is where the book begins. Then, West provides action, adventure, and life-threatening confrontations. These plot points are very exciting! The important take-away lesson revolves around working as a team… allowing each person to play the part God meant for them to play. There is also sacrifice, grief, and heartbreak. It is definitely a tear jerking storyline requiring some tissues at the ready.West really delivers in this final installment of the Alternate Earth series. The book is so enchanting. It is one of those read straight through books: imaginative, creative, well-written and compelling. There were, however, a couple of unresolved questions. Hopefully there will be another series in the future that begins just after Alternate Earth ends.Judgement is a great ending to a great series. 4 3/4 stars

As usual West does it again, I am always amazed at the thought that is put into the plot and storyline because in the end it all comes together like a perfectly wrapped gift for readers to enjoy. Even though this is a work of fiction it reinforces my belief in God and that He has a plan for all of us. It may not be what we want it to be, but we have to have faith that He has everyone's best interest at heart.I laughed and I cried and in the end I was left asking myself what would I sacrifice to save the world. I find that I can't wait to read what's next, as all the puzzle pieces begin to come together. There is not one thing I did not like about this series, it's just another piece of the puzzle that has fallen into place and I can't wait to unwrap the rest of the puzzle.

All the extra add on books...I've read them ALL. I have loved every second of it. I can't wait to read the second series with Malcolm and Anna. I have no doubt they will be as exceptional as the rest of them have been. I recommend these books to everyone I know, and I will continue to do just that. These books have brought tears and laughs to my life. I have gotten lost in their story and have been transported to world's unknown. It's an amazing thing to find a book that can do just that. Praise to S.J. West and her remarkable skill at telling a story that grabs you and never lets go!

This omnibus collection presents the first six complete novels of the thrilling adventures of Tarzan of the Apes. Son of an English Lord, raised by the savage apes that killed his father, found again by a civilization that he would never quite come to call his own, he was at home in the primeval forest in which he was reared. Swinging through the treetops, bane of lions, tamer of elephants, terror of cannibals, finder of lost cities, and beloved of the American woman Jane Porter, this knight of the forest, never trained in chivalry, was known to the outside world as John Clayton, Lord Greystoke--but to himself and the denizens of the jungle in which he grew up, he would be forever Tarzan, King of the Apes. Included in this volume (ISBN 9781512370720): Tarzan of the Apes; The Return of Tarzan; The Son of Tarzan; The Beasts of Tarzan; Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar; Jungle Tales of Tarzan. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Great stories; elegant presentation. By George Smith This was a thoroughly enjoyable read, with an elegant presentation. I have been a fan of Tarzan since I was a small boy and it was delightful to revisit the primeval forest and the ape-man with in such a beautifully-presented edition. The text is smaller, to accommodate 7 (!) novels in one volume, but it is *not* too small. The size of the volume, also, is about the size of a large hardcover book -- which is to say that it is bigger than a standard softcover, but not so big that it feels like you're holding a computer printout in your lap. The reading experience was quite pleasant. Add to that the helpful introduction on Edgar Rice Burroughs and his career, and you have a nice book that can be enjoyed by adults and young persons alike. I particularly like the detail of the Greystoke coat of arms both on the cover and on the title page. Cheap reprints are a dime a dozen, so it is gratifying to see that someone has spent the time to make a volume befitting of its contents.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Nice overall package By stflacassier I'll agree that the printing is smaller than you'd usually get in a book this size, but it's fine. My eyesight isn't the greatest and I have no trouble reading this. I really like the cover too. Nice design and great use of graphics. Considering the book is all text, no illos, having a great cover is a major bonus.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Read the book, you don't need a movie By Jeffrey Fater I had only read Tarzan comic books prior to owning this collection. This is great adventure writing and I wish I had this book as a kid. The action is just about non-stop, and I don't only mean beasts fighting in the jungle. Some readers may be bothered by the evolutionary theories posed as explanation for some animals being what they are. These theories are also pretty racist with regard to the "savages" and "natives" of Africa, especially in contrast to the "noblemen" of Europe. If you can deal with those things, understanding that it was published in 1914, not 2014, you may enjoy this book and the stories within.

"Kept me turning page after page to see what was going to happen."

"...Like a scene from a Indiana Jones movie."

- Alycia Tillman Revenge is a powerful motivator. It turns the pious into sinners, the most timid to anger, and the most virtuous amongst us into cold blooded murderers. If used correctly, the desire for vengeance can also be used as a tool. Edward Thatch, the rookie pirate known as Blackbeard, is out for Revenge. Revenge against those who wrong his crewmates and himself. Before Edward can take his retribution he'll need to finish unlocking his ship, Freedom, by playing Benjamin Hornigold's game. Edward still has three tests to complete in order to gain the last keys to his ship, and he will have to risk life and limb of himself and his crew to pass the trials. How far will Edward's desire for Revenge take him, and what dangers will he place his crew into for his Freedom? Find out what action Edward will take in Blackbeard's Revenge, and follow his fantasy adventure full of pirates, privateers, and everything in between in The Voyages of Queen Anne's Revenge!

Action packed and riveting, a must read sequel By The Genre Minx Book Reviews Read this review and more @[...]We start out with Edward aka Blackbeard having been imprisoned for a year; a year in a dungeon without sun, the ocean or his love, Anne. As you can imagine things are a bit grim for Edward but then the tide turns. A jailbreak! Well written and devised this scene starts the book with the action you would expect from a rowdy crew of buccaneers and the action does not stop. Now that Blackbeard has been reunited with his crew and his ship Freedom he becomes focused on obtaining the keys he needs to unlock the compartments on the ship he had purchased from Benjamin Hornigold. If you did not read the first book, please do, then this will make more sense. I am just kidding, I will tell you.In the first book Edward wanted to be a whaler and purchased a ship while intoxicated during a card game from Benjamin Hornigold. Unbeknownst to Edward this was a pirate ship and was a catalyst to his becoming a pirate. On the ship there were several doors that remained locked and no matter what the crew tried they were unable to gain access. The doors were sealed with a magical protection and only the keys were able to open the doors. If Blackbeard wants access to those areas, which are actually vital areas, he needs to play Benjamin’s game and prove himself worthy. Yes, you should read the first book because it is just awesome and will help you with this book but I would not say it is necessary. With his obsession of unlocking the doors revved into high gear, the Captain and crew must complete three tests to open all the doors aboard the Freedom and then Edward will be able to seek his retribution on those who have wronged him and his crew. I loved how the tests were devised! It was like Indiana Jones on the high seas. So well written and you will find yourself holding your breath praying for a good outcome. So well thought out and enjoyable!!We also have more time to get to know the supporting characters that we met in the first book. The backstories on the crew are comedic, tragic, and add a flavor to the overall book that just makes it a pleasure to read. Henry is still a loyal best friend but we see that there are just some situations that can lead any man to break and make choices that we as a reader dread. Anne has made her choices and is by Edward’s side and has been well and truly written off by her family…which actually bodes badly for her and those around her. Sam has a deeper role in this book and is pivotal to the storyline because his past becomes part of the present for all aboard Freedom. This addition to the story also takes it from fiction to fantasy and is done in a creative manner that will have you engrossed in the details. This is not the light-hearted crew that we had known. Edward has changed and his choices have led the crew into dangerous situations with more than one tragic consequence. With each loss Edward’s soul is marked and he becomes darker and more what we come to expect from Blackbeard. The book is action packed and riveting. The writing is remarkable and the will have a lasting impact.

By Adam Oster DISCLAIMER: I did receive a free copy of this book in exchange for a review.Blackbeard's Revenge starts up about a year after the first book left off. And things weren't looking especially bright for Edward Thatch and his merry crew of buccaneers. And things don't seem to have gotten much better over the course of the time that occurs between books.Blackbeard, the man who rides on the majestic ship FREEDOM, as much more than merely a metaphor for his own personal quest, seems to have given up on the idea of being free.Good thing pirates don't care about things like that!Okay, let's get down to the gritty. This book is a ton more polished than the first one, and is incredibly fast-paced, considering how long of a book it is. And although there's a ton that happens within the covers of this title, it never seems to get bogged down with too much at any given moment. In fact, Edward seems to be rather singularly focused at most times in the novel, giving him a rather Ahab-esque vibe, which, to be fair, is probably the point. We see Edward's progress towards being the captain he's supposed to be, but also, more than anything else, see his failures, many of which come back to bite him in the whatsits, some more I'm guessing will do so in future tales of his adventures. But in the end, this book is really all about family, and how sometimes, you just have to fight for your family, even if the battle seems completely doomed to failure. This is a spectacular book, one that I think you absolutely should read if you have any interest in pirate fiction. Or action. Or adventure. Or...really, just read it, unless all you like are Harlequins (in which case, what are you doing reading this review even?)Seriously. It's a load of fun.

By Zachary Tillman Jeremy McLean has a way of drawing me into his books. I was never a big reader before, but this book locked me in and I could not stop reading it until it was over. This book is the runner up to Blackbears's Freedom. The writing style is vary unique and it puts you in the mood of the time and flow of the story. very well done indeed. The story contains some violence and is definitely more intense than the first in the series, however, it is not an overabundance and does not take away from the theme. There is no sexual content in this book which is truly refreshing. Modern authors seem to think that in order to make a story great, they need to add an abundance of sexual content. That is not, however, how Jeremy presents his books and therefore creates a certain quality that I feel most books are missing. Jeremy's books excel above a great number books in the market. I would give this book ten stares if possible. The only complaint I have is that there is no third book yet!All in all a great job. Keep up the great work Jeremy!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Very Good Prequel To This Eschatological Series, Fast Paced and Suspenseful. Biblically Sound. By Peter Younghusband This is the first writing from this author I have read. I am very impressed with the way this author writes and how he has constructed this novella (82 pages). It is just long enough to set the scene for the rest of the series and whet our appetite for what is to come. It is a real cliff-hanger having the Rapture occur at the 3/4 mark and leave you hanging at the end wondering what is to come and what happens to the characters that this short sets up. It is constructed so well, that I would suggest any reader to make sure that they have the next book in their possession to read immediately as they will not want to delay finding out what happens next. One thing that struck me reading this novella is the research and application of same that Higgins so masterfully includes and portrays. I have always found that whether you are young or older, learning is always better achieved if it is delivered in a fun way or in such a manner that the participant (in this case, the reader) picks it up easily and therefore its retention is far much more guaranteed than under less fun or favourable conditions. Higgins shines here. His knowledge of American football is superb and is cleverly delivered as a backdrop to this story pre-Rapture and also unifies the relationship between three of the main characters. I know nothing about this particular sport (I live in Australia), but the way Higgins has integrated this into the story as the background setting and as part of the relationship between Justin, Brian and Graig is very enjoyable and I found myself getting interested in this sport!!For a novella, Higgins has created his characters to be very relatable. I found myself very attached to all of them and interested to see how the rapture affects them, (of those that are left behind) and this adds to the cliff-hanger ending I mentioned before. I am intrigued to see how these character's plot lines intersect in the remaining installments of the series. There has been some basic intersection of one character with two others in this installment and I can see that this intersection of characters will add to and strengthen the plot in the remainder of the series. This novella is very biblically based. Higgins outlines his "stand" on eschatology in the "Foreword" (Titled For Your Consideration) and provides a convincing account of why he has taken this stand. I must confess that there are elements in this account that I had not considered before or read elsewhere. He has obviously researched this extensively to arrive at his conclusions and I look forward to seeing these integrated in the rest of the series. Stating whether you are a Pre-Tribulation, Mid-tribulation or Post-Tribulation adherent can be risky as this whole topic of eschatology and specifically the Tribulation period, is one very hot potato within Christian circles. I admire Higgins for outlining his stand in this Foreward and basing his fiction series around this.I found it very refreshing having an evangelistic theme woven into the plot through the character of Justin, being the only witnessing Christian in this story. Other Christian novels either have this type of theme weakly constructed or somewhere in the background and not very obvious, but Higgins is up front with this. This shows what we as professing Christians need to be like if we are following in the footsteps of Jesus and His Great Commission. Even in real life, Christians who are like Justin can become unrelatable and super-spiritual but Higgins has depicted Justin and his wife as genuine and sincere and very relatable. Listening to Justin and his wife, Heather, discuss how to talk to others about the Gospel shows us how to witness to our friends and family without being preachy, self-righteous and pious and with them feeling they are condemned and judged to hell without any hope at all. I appreciated Higgins showing this through Justin's behavior towards Brain, which reinforces that we are to be doers of the Word and not just hearers of same. I loved the Spirit having the occasional words of caution and encouragement when Justin was discerning when and how to talk to Brian about Jesus.I am always intrigued how Christian authors portray the Rapture. Do they have a gradual build up then just as suddenly as we expect it to happen in real life, it occurs and catches the reader off guard, or is it too predictable? In this novel, I knew it was to happen during the football game as outlined in the book description so I was on tenterhooks reading the game-play description and yes, I was caught off guard, which pleased me immensely as this is just how I like it. Higgins' description of the First Family's confusion, shock, horror, panic, despair, grief at losing some members of their family and the same of the population in and around the football stadium and of those in New York where Tamika is situated, is very realistic and emotion provoking. Definitely adds to the action and suspense of this scenario. Higgins has constructed this well and I am looking forward to seeing this continue in the next installment.I am glad Patrick Higgins submitted this book to me for review. Despite him offering to send me a PDF copy, I did not mind spending the $0.99 cents to buy it. More than money well spent. I have been spiritually encouraged, challenged and entertained immensely in this novella. I do look forward to reading the rest of this series and his other novels. I applaud him for making his fiction spiritually and biblically based and not afraid to show the Gospel of Christ in his plot and characters.Highly Recommended.

By Greg Perkins This novel and series has probably the best researched and biblical understanding of what will happen after the taking out of Christians from this world. It holds nothing back or sugar coats or sensationalizes this occurrence.it goes further than the" left behind series"It shows a step back and observe on personal basis people we can identify with. Not just those that are untrue to spouses:but common everyday families and how they react in situations of losing grandparents, children, and friends. All this before the dreaded "Mark"of which I'm inclined to believe is not threatened but people desire it.I have followed this series and will continue as long the novel continues blending premises with scripture.

Excerpt from Life and HabitSince Samuel Butler published "Life and Habit" thirty-three years have elapsed -years fruitful in change and discovery, during which many of the mighty have been put down from their seat and many of the humble have been exalted. I do not know that Butler can truthfully be called humble, indeed, I think he had very few misgivings as to his ultimate triumph, but he has certainly been exalted with a rapidity that he himself can scarcely have foreseen. During his lifetime he was a literary pariah, the victim of an organized conspiracy of silence. He is now, I think it may be said without exaggeration, universally accepted as one of the most remarkable English writers of the latter part of the nineteenth century. I will not weary my readers by quoting the numerous tributes paid by distinguished contemporary writers to Butler's originality and force of mind, but I cannot refrain from illustrating the changed attitude of the scientific world to Butler and his theories by a reference to "Darwin and Modern Science," the collection of essays published in 1909 by the University of Cambridge, in commemoration of the Darwin centenary. In that work Professor Bateson, while referring repeatedly to Butler's biological works, speaks of him as "the most brilliant and by far the most interesting of Darwin's opponents, whose works are at length emerging from oblivion."About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Ahead of its time By Tom M This is SUCH an enlightening and eye opening treatment of not only evolution but also a prescient account of the debate regarding quantum physics and consciousness - 40 years before his time. An absolute must read for anyone interested in the history of science and wishing to better understand (with an open mind) alternatives to conventional wisdom regarding the nature of life and the universe.

Caribbean Deep is the second novel in the Caribbean series featuring former Special Forces officers Richard Turpin, Willie Jones and Pete Macalister. Having spent a week sport fishing aboard their boat Mordred in the northern Windward Islands, the men are voyaging home across the Anegada Passage when they stop to investigate a faint light in the water. The light is attached to a lifejacket wrapped around a naked girl. Having pulled the girl from the water, they take her below where they learn she has been tortured and brutalized by human traffickers and escaped by throwing herself overboard. Fearing for the girl’s life, Turpin radios for medical assistance. His call is answered by a ship carrying a doctor. As the two vessels converge, Mordred is blown apart by gunfire and sinks. The men survive and trace the ship to Puerto Rico, where they confront the traffickers in a running battle through the streets of Old San Juan, resulting in the death of a young police officer. Tracked down by a covert law enforcement agency charged with eliminating human trafficking and the horrors of the modern-day slave trade, Turpin and Jones are offered a chance of redemption: Go undercover on the next ship carrying a human cargo bound for America …

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Highly tensive By N.M. den Hartog The author must have done a lot of research on this one. It can not have been easy to turn a story like this into a realistic event and yet he did it. Very well done. A highly tensive story on a highly topical subject: human trafficking. The first book felt like a high speed picaresque novel, I loved it and I could not put it down. Caribbean Deep felt somehow more mature, showing more depth, especially in the description of the characters. I found it interesting to see how the currents of thought on uncertainty about whether people - close friends and others - are truly to be trusted has been put into words. And again, I could not put it down. No, that's not true. Gary's very descriptive writing sometimes forces me to put the book down to take some safety breathes...

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Suspense at its best - Gary Brown has done it again! By Helayne Very suspenseful story about human trafficking. Gary Brown, the author, writes in a way that you can easily visualize exactly each location as if you were standing there. The characters are developed in enough detail that you feel you know them and can anticipate how they will react. BUT...then Gary throws in some surprising twists which make you laugh and then make you rethink how the story is going to proceed. Couldn't put the book down; I didn't want it to end - it was too enjoyable a read. Thanks Gary and I look forward to your next book!

The last chapter of the dimension-spanning Daedalus series brings the 19th and 22nd centuries together for an explosive finale in the jungles of Venus! In the year 2135, dangerous alien life forms freed in the destruction of Saturn's moon Enceladus are making their way towards Earth. A task force spearheaded by Lt. Cmdr. Shaila Jain is scrambling to beat them there while simultaneously trying to save crewmember Stephane Durand, who was infected during the mission to Saturn and is now controlled by a form of life intent on reopening a transdimensional rift and destroying the human race. But Jain doesn’t realize that the possessed Stephane has bigger plans, beaming critical data to other conspirators suspiciously heading not for Earth, but for Venus…In 1809—a Napoleonic era far different from our own—the French have occupied England with their Corps Eternélle, undead soldiers risen through the darkest Alchemy. Only the actions of Lord Admiral Thomas Weatherby and the Royal Navy have kept the French contained to Earth. But the machinations of old enemies point to a bold and daring gambit: an ancient weapon, presumed lost in the jungles of Venus. Now, Weatherby must choose whether to stay and fight to retake his homeland or pursue the French to the green planet. And Shaila must decide if it’s possible to save the man she loves, or if he must be sacrificed for the good of two dimensions. In the dark, alien jungles of Venus, humanity's fate in both dimensions hangs in the balance—forcing past and present to once again join forces against an ancient terror.Skyhorse Publishing, under our Night Shade and Talos imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of titles for readers interested in science fiction (space opera, time travel, hard SF, alien invasion, near-future dystopia), fantasy (grimdark, sword and sorcery, contemporary urban fantasy, steampunk, alternative history), and horror (zombies, vampires, and the occult and supernatural), and much more. Review Publishers Weekly (starred review)"Overflowing with complexity and eloquence, the conclusion to Martinez's Daedalus Trilogy seamlessly blends popular elements from science fiction and fantasy, producing a work that raises the bar for both. ... (Martinez) skillfully handles the intricacies of characterization and the many moving parts, building to the trilogy's utterly satisfying and quite epic finale."Amazing StoriesThere are few places where you can read about a zombie army led by Napoleon that conquers England by walking under the English Channel, but Michael J. Martinez's The Venusian Gambit is one of them. ... The Daedalus series was a fun mash-up of different genres and The Venusian Gambit managed to have a satisfying conclusion while leaving us with just enough uncertainty to keep it realistic. Will Martinez write more books set in his multiverse? I don't know, perhaps I will ask him when I get the chance, but whatever he writes I am sure to pick up a copy.Praise for The Venusian Gambit:"Overflowing with complexity and eloquence, the conclusion to Martinez’s Daedalus Trilogy seamlessly blends popular elements from science fiction and fantasy, producing a work that raises the bar for both."—Publishers Weekly, starred review"Everything the finale of a trilogy should be—constant suspense, genuine characters…. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A Rousing Conclusion to a Great Genre-Mashing Steampunk Space Opera Series By John Kwok Michael J. Martinez’s “The Venusian Gambit: Book Three of the Daedalus Series” is the most fun I have had reading this year since reading James Morrow’s great novel “Galapagos Regained”. So much fun that I think his third Daedalus novel will win new fans – including yours truly – who haven’t read the two prior novels. And I am sorry he’s opted to end this series on such a high note, since I’d love to read yet another novel chronicling the exploits of 22nd Century Royal Navy officer Lieutenant Commander Shaila Jain, Daedalus Project head Major General Maria Diaz, and 19th Century Royal Navy Lord Admiral Thomas Weatherby. This is a genre-blurring gem of epic proportions, with Martinez’s novels, a most imaginative mashup of Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey/Maturin series with David Weber’s “Honorverse” novels, but without the excessively wordy political intrigue that is indicative of his most recent novels. More so than Weber, Martinez has created a most captivating cast of characters which readers will be all too willing to root for, starting with Jain and her French scientist boyfriend Stephane Durand. Martinez takes us to an England partly occupied by Napoleon’s Corps Eternelle, his army of zombie soldiers risen from the dead through alchemical means most foul, with King George III held captive by Napoleon’s legions of live and undead soldiers. Two universes converge upon the planet Venus as Jain, Diaz, Weatherby and their subordinates must contend with an ancient Martian warrior seeking revenge against those who imprisoned him millennia ago, hoping to revive his long-vanished Solar System empire. Martinez is both a compelling storyteller and a fine prose stylist, doing such a spectacular job in world building, that one can’t help but believe that a fleet of early 19th Century British wooden battleships and cruisers could travel in the same Void as a 22nd Century military spaceship. “The Venusian Gambit” should appeal to diehard fans of intricately plotted space opera as well as those familiar with Naomi Novik’s “Temeraire” series and Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey/Maturin series.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Looking to spend time on another world? How about in another timeline? The Daedalus Series is your ticket to adventure....... By TrinityTwo The Venusian Gambit, book three of the Daedalus Series by Michael J. Martinez, is the grand finale of a unique and exciting sci-fi series. Part of the beauty of this series is that it’s not simply sci-fi, it’s also daring exploits, nail-biting espionage, brilliant war tactics, and mortal danger experienced by characters the reader truly cares about. In short, it’s kick-ass action with great human drama. In 1803, on an Earth of an alternate history, Rear Admiral Thomas Weatherby continues to fight Napoleon’s devastating invasion of England and its settlements with the help of his brilliant wife Anne and good friend Dr. Andrew Finch, both highly powerful alchemists. Tom’s daughter, Elizabeth and Anne’s son, Philip are now of age and also join in the cause. However, Napoleon is not employing ordinary armed forces, as the French utilize their discovery of a dark alchemical secret to create soldiers from corpses; the relentless “Corps Éternelle”.Meanwhile in 2134, Major General Maria Diaz and Lt. Commander Shaila Jain are trying to stop a chain of events that may lead to another cross-dimensional rift intended to release an ancient evil back into the world. Jain is also preoccupied by the fact that her lover, Dr. Stephane Durand, had been infected during the Enceladus Crisis and a sentient being entered his body and had taken control. She’s determined to do whatever it takes to get him back. The Venusian Gambit is a pleasure to read. Martinez’s story just keeps getting better and better. He's found the perfect balance between the alternate past, where sailing ships are powered by alchemy through which they can journey to distant planets and the future, where traditional space travel is powered by science, and technology can be used with nefarious intent. It’s always great fun when the two worlds collide; I especially enjoy the battle scenes where cannon fire is pitted against lasers. Once again, I was glad to spend time with my favorite characters Tom Weatherby and Shaila Jain, and looked forward to their interactions. I also enjoyed the further character development of General Maria Diaz, Elizabeth Weatherby and Philip St. Germain.Another great thing about the book, and the series, is that Martinez’s cast of characters is diverse. Issues such as sexism are touched upon in a matter of fact way that is never in your face but subtly gets the point across. I was amused, for example, when men of the 19th century found themselves taking orders from a female general from the 22nd and make military faux pas trying to get it right. The conclusion of the series is very satisfying; the conflict is resolved in an explosive burst of action with results that made me a bit emotional. I was honestly sad to reach the last page. I will definitely miss reading about Jain and Weatherby’s exploits. The Venusian Gambit is truly sci-fi magic that you won’t want to miss.Looking to spend time on another world? How about in another timeline? The Daedalus Series is your ticket to adventure and I would highly recommend putting this series on your reading list.

An Excellent Wrap Up By Robert Junker I received a free preview copy of The Venusian Gambit because of an interview I did with the author for a podcast.Ever since the first book, I have been very enamored of the Known Worlds from the second timeline. This book was no exception. Every time we got to visit a new world, I was fascinated. Getting to know a little more about the Venusian culture was great.I'm hoping someday, Mr. Martinez will go back to the Known Worlds.

By Dhivya Balaji / Readers Muse BOOK REVIEW: How to blog a book - As catchy as the title and more informative than you can imagine. Some books need no review, at all. They speak for themselves. The description of the book is enough to make any reader interested in the topics mentioned want to buy it. This is one such book. But as a reviewer, I want to record here how very informative I found this book – both as a blogger and as an aspiring author. Not to bore the readers with long, praising paragraphs, I am going to list out what made this book click for me (that might probably be why I would recommend this to all the bloggers and writers out there – even those who have an idea to become one.)WHAT MAKES THIS BOOK CLICK FOR ME (AS A BLOGGER AND A WRITER)· Breaks down complex jargon into simple, understandable phrases and gives detailed explanation on each and every topic (even those that seem way too obvious).· Doesn't omit any step in the whole process of writing, publishing and promoting a book. Also gives some tweaks for authors who really want to go the extra mile.· The writer addresses the reader directly and gives out examples of success stories evenly all through the book, and reading some of those blog topics (that have obviously become successful books) make you want to write a blog book yourself.· The reasons as to why you should actually do it and any skeptic questions that you might have are answered with the risk factors and the benefits (okay, no jargon - pros and cons) are clearly explained.· The whole layout of the book is pleasing (yes, this is visible even in the digital copy).· It clearly shows that Blogging a book is a time consuming process, that requires constant attention to grow and flourish - but it also points out why it is all worthwhile.· If you are an existing blogger, you will come to realise what you have been doing right and wrong so far and correct your mistakes. If you are new, you will be able to avoid the major mistakes.· Explains the legal aspects and copyright laws to quench your doubts about blogging a book.· It also has conversations with bloggers who have successfully blogged a book. (or booked a blog!)· Starting with the motivation necessary to start the blog to the drive necessary to keep it going and finally the steps you need to take to get noticed - it has everything. So much so that you would not have realised so far that blogging had so many intricate details to be covered.· That said, this book doesn't force any particular genre or topic on you. Even after all these detailed instructions, you are encouraged to choose your own topic! If this detailed (but in no way exhaustive) list doesn’t encourage aspiring readers to go for this book, you will miss a very relevant, easy to understand and follow guide to your stardom doing what you have always wanted to do – but didn’t know exactly how to accomplish.

So many books on blogging lack concrete information making it difficult for a new writer/blogger to know how to translate advice into action. How to Blog a Book is NOT a book you read once and cast aside and rather, is a consummate resource on how to, not why to, blog a book. I am glad I found this it as I was just about to throw in the towel on the whole blogging thing concluding it was an enormous time sink with uncertain payoffs. I've become a big Nina Amir fan. If you've grown sick of the hype of other books which sell you with enthusiasm but leave you confused about tactics, I recommend you give this a try.

Forgiveness and family love By Joyful This suspense romance novel is listed as Christian suspense, however I don't approve of the curse word used in the story line. Therefore I will give it a 4 star because I love the story line and the emotions run strong making it a book hard to put down. I have read and loved other books by this author. I like the bond of the Heros in these books. The theme of forgiveness and family love are great. The story could have been written in a descriptive way without having to use the curse words, especially if it is listed as Christian. I was given a copy for an honest review.

This is the first Christian suspenseful novel I have read, and I have to admit that I was a little nervous up front. There is some darkness to it and some difficult topics. However I thought the author did a great job of keeping my interest and making sure to include God in the story.Karen is trying to find out what happened to her brother that mysteriously died. The police reports claim it was a hunting accident, but Karen and her dying mother feel otherwise. So Karen travels to the middle of nowhere to find some answers. On her way there a huge rock starts falling straight for her car. It just so happens to man she is going to talk to is at the right place at the right time and rescues her. Although he seems like a knight in shining armor, he is harbor in some secrets. He takes her back to his place where he lives with his sister and nephew. And that's where the story truly begins. This book is full of suspense, love, secrets and surprises. I found myself reading whenever I had a spare moment just to find out what happened next. And just when I thought I had the plot figured out, the author threw in another twist I was not expecting and I loved that!! I think this first book in the Sacred Bond Guardians series has left me hungry for more!

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. A Brother's bond By crawl5 Mixed feelings...I enjoyed this book and wanted to finish it in a sitting. Adam was protecting his sister, Mandy, when a stranger, Karen, comes to town and needs his help. Spoiler: The ending could have used a little more time. Such as with Brittany's character and Rich's. Rich's character in the basement (how he acted) and then the end, without giving too much away, he was a cop. Repercussion should have been addressed with him. Also Book titles and pictures have varying relationships to the contents of the book. I felt the the cover of the book could've been different to reflect the story more. All in all, still a decent read.
