Caribbean Deep is the second novel in the Caribbean series featuring former Special Forces officers Richard Turpin, Willie Jones and Pete Macalister. Having spent a week sport fishing aboard their boat Mordred in the northern Windward Islands, the men are voyaging home across the Anegada Passage when they stop to investigate a faint light in the water. The light is attached to a lifejacket wrapped around a naked girl. Having pulled the girl from the water, they take her below where they learn she has been tortured and brutalized by human traffickers and escaped by throwing herself overboard. Fearing for the girl’s life, Turpin radios for medical assistance. His call is answered by a ship carrying a doctor. As the two vessels converge, Mordred is blown apart by gunfire and sinks. The men survive and trace the ship to Puerto Rico, where they confront the traffickers in a running battle through the streets of Old San Juan, resulting in the death of a young police officer. Tracked down by a covert law enforcement agency charged with eliminating human trafficking and the horrors of the modern-day slave trade, Turpin and Jones are offered a chance of redemption: Go undercover on the next ship carrying a human cargo bound for America …

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I couldn't put it down! By MJR Caribbean Deep is another thriller packed with nonstop action. The text is so descriptive I felt like I was there! I couldn't put it down because I needed to know what would happen next.

It can not have been easy to turn a story like this into a realistic event and yet he did it. Very well done. A highly tensive story on a highly topical subject: human trafficking. The first book felt like a high speed picaresque novel, I loved it and I could not put it down. Caribbean Deep felt somehow more mature, showing more depth, especially in the description of the characters. I found it interesting to see how the currents of thought on uncertainty about whether people - close friends and others - are truly to be trusted has been put into words. And again, I could not put it down. No, that's not true. Gary's very descriptive writing sometimes forces me to put the book down to take some safety breathes...

Gary Brown, the author, writes in a way that you can easily visualize exactly each location as if you were standing there. The characters are developed in enough detail that you feel you know them and can anticipate how they will react. BUT...then Gary throws in some surprising twists which make you laugh and then make you rethink how the story is going to proceed. Couldn't put the book down; I didn't want it to end - it was too enjoyable a read. Thanks Gary and I look forward to your next book!
