This omnibus collection presents the first six complete novels of the thrilling adventures of Tarzan of the Apes. Son of an English Lord, raised by the savage apes that killed his father, found again by a civilization that he would never quite come to call his own, he was at home in the primeval forest in which he was reared. Swinging through the treetops, bane of lions, tamer of elephants, terror of cannibals, finder of lost cities, and beloved of the American woman Jane Porter, this knight of the forest, never trained in chivalry, was known to the outside world as John Clayton, Lord Greystoke--but to himself and the denizens of the jungle in which he grew up, he would be forever Tarzan, King of the Apes. Included in this volume (ISBN 9781512370720): Tarzan of the Apes; The Return of Tarzan; The Son of Tarzan; The Beasts of Tarzan; Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar; Jungle Tales of Tarzan. I have been a fan of Tarzan since I was a small boy and it was delightful to revisit the primeval forest and the ape-man with in such a beautifully-presented edition. The text is smaller, to accommodate 7 (!) novels in one volume, but it is *not* too small. The size of the volume, also, is about the size of a large hardcover book -- which is to say that it is bigger than a standard softcover, but not so big that it feels like you're holding a computer printout in your lap. The reading experience was quite pleasant. Add to that the helpful introduction on Edgar Rice Burroughs and his career, and you have a nice book that can be enjoyed by adults and young persons alike. I particularly like the detail of the Greystoke coat of arms both on the cover and on the title page. Cheap reprints are a dime a dozen, so it is gratifying to see that someone has spent the time to make a volume befitting of its contents.

My eyesight isn't the greatest and I have no trouble reading this. I really like the cover too. Nice design and great use of graphics. Considering the book is all text, no illos, having a great cover is a major bonus.

This is great adventure writing and I wish I had this book as a kid. The action is just about non-stop, and I don't only mean beasts fighting in the jungle. Some readers may be bothered by the evolutionary theories posed as explanation for some animals being what they are. These theories are also pretty racist with regard to the "savages" and "natives" of Africa, especially in contrast to the "noblemen" of Europe. If you can deal with those things, understanding that it was published in 1914, not 2014, you may enjoy this book and the stories within.
