New York Times best-selling author Susan Mallery is world renowned for her "insightful, funny, and poignant" stories (Booklist). With her brand-new Mischief Bay series, Susan brings to vivid color the story of three friends on the brink of a new life.

Nicole Lord wants to be a good wife, but there's a difference between being supportive and supporting her husband, who quit his job to write a screenplay she's never seen. He won't even help take care of their son, leaving Nicole to run the house and work full-time at her Mischief Bay Pilates studio. Can she say enough is enough without losing the man she loves?

Sacrificing a personal life for her career is how Shannon Rigg rose to become vice president in her firm, but she wonders now whether she made the right choice. An exciting new relationship with a great guy convinces her that it might not be too late--until he drops a bombshell that has her questioning whether she can have it all. And if she can, does she want it?

Although Pam Eiland has a beautiful house and a husband she adores, she feels...restless. She wonders who a stay-at-home mom becomes after the kids are grown. Finding sexy new ways to surprise her husband brings the heat and the humor back to their marriage, but when unexpected change turns her life upside down, she'll have to redefine herself. Again.

Through romance and heartbreak, laughter and tears, three very different women will discover that friends can become family, and that life is richer with sisters at your side.

The local is lovely and well described, the characters are believable and fully developed, and the story moves along nicely. However, I'm not sure I am the intended audience for this new series. In my 50's, with my life not being the way I thought it would be, I found this book to be, well. depressing. With my daughter and her 6 kids now ensconced in our home, a husband still working long hours, and having custody of two infant grandchildren, my dreams of romantic dinners, wonderful getaways, and long talks under the stars are nonexistent. So, I read to go away. Just an hour or two in a beautiful location, with people I enjoy reading about, who do interesting things, is very refreshing. This book didn't do that for me.I found the character, Pam, to just be heart breaking. She is closest to my age, and just when things seems to be coming together for her, WHAM! Sigh. I didn't need that.I was hoping for a beach read, fun in the sun, feel good summer book, the kind that leave me with a smile on my face when I close the back cover, instead I felt burdened down and weary. I'll be skipping this series.

By Cheryl Stout Susan Mallery is a favorite of mine and I was glad to see that she's writing a new romance series - centered around Mischief Bay.THE GIRLS OF MISCHIEF BAY is the first book in this series and the women in it are memorable. They are in their 30s, almost 40, and 50s - three friends whose ages don't matter to their friendship.Nicole has a young son, a dance/exercise studio - and a husband who quit work so he could surf plus write a screenplay. Oh, and he didn't mention this to Nicole before quitting his well-paying job.Shannon is the CFO at a billion dollar company, never been married and is almost 40. And she's realizing some of the things she's missed out on during her work struggle. And Pam has a husband whom she adores and who adores her. She has grown children. She is feeling older and wants to spice up her marriage.I loved the natural flow of the storyline and of the dialogue contained in the book. I want to be friends with all three. There are ups and downs and surprises in this modern-day tale. This is another winner from author Mallery and I will be looking forward to the next book in the Mischief Bay series, a wonderful little coastal community near L.A.

It has restaurants, beautiful homes with a small town atmosphere. This first novel introduces us to three caring friends and their stories.Nicole Lord is owner and Pilates teacher at Mischief in Motion. It's a dream come true for her. She is married with an almost five year old son she adores. Until recently they had lived comfortably, not worrying about money. Then Eric, Nicole's husband quit his job to fulfill his dream. Writing a screenplay and surfing. With only one income things are becoming a little tight, but she adds more classes and tries to get more students. She loves Eric and wants him to be happy.Pam Eiland and Shannon Rigg are students of Nicole's and all three have become close friends. Pam loves making home cooked meals and taking care of her home.Pam's husband John owns his own construction company, they have three grown children, an adorable little fluffy dog called Lulu. If Pam is around, so is Lulu, dressed in her outfit of the day.Shannon Rigg is a CFO of her own company and a well know business woman. She is very independent, self sufficient and really sees no need for a steady man in her life. Oh, she likes men, just not in her space. There is laughter and tears, struggles no one expected and the love of friends. Friends who are always there. This was a very enjoyable read, and I look forward to the next Mischief Bay story.I received this eBook from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.Pat Fordyce
