Wholesome youth reading By JAH This author, a friend of mine, deserves stars for crafting a story with exquisite attention to detail and apparently a character for every get-out-of-jail trick there is, and he manages to pull the thing off. A tendency to black and white in his character depictions, a wholesome romance parents can be comfortable with letting their kids read about (chivalry without misogyny is not dead) and a satisfying, gritty take-down of greasy, weasley bad guys should be a hit with the YA crowd. The author's engineering background shines here, and boys especially will appreciate the ambitious ideas Alexander and his fellow white hats come up with to foil the black hats. In an age when nihilism creeps into books for even young children, Alexander is a refreshing change.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A great, modern adventure for young adult readers. By John Church This is a great story for young adults, and I enjoyed it myself. Teenaged Alex must deal with a new stepfather, being kidnapped, and rescuing prisoners that are held by a drug cartel. He finds his inner courage and ingenuity while he deals with the intricate, and dangerous situation in the desert of Arizona. He also manages to impress a young woman who becomes his partner in this underground adventure.The story kept me guessing and held a few surprises as well. Anyone who enjoys a good adventure will like this original story.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A nice follow-on to Cassandra By Ronald Q. Smith A good follow-up to Cassandra. I like his writing style and the plot is interesting and fun. The only downside for me was that story had a lot about Cassandra especially in the second half. While the tie in and some follow-up on the previous characters was very welcome, I really wanted the whole story to be about Alexander as the previous one was all about Cassandra. I felt like we lost Alexander in the second half of the book.
