Jess is doing what he always does, hunting down the worst of killers when he runs into a young boy, Jamie Williett. Jess finds out that the man he is hunting killed Jamie’s father. Jamie gets shot while attempting to kill the man and Jess is there when it happens. Feeling somewhat responsible for Jamie getting hurt, Jess hangs around to make sure he doesn’t attempt to go after the killer again, but Jamie takes off after him on his own without telling Jess. When Jess finds out what Jamie is up to, he tracks him down and stays with him to keep him from taking another bullet from the killer. A long journey ensues and the two of them face many obstacles along the way. Jess has his hands full, keeping Jamie safe, while trying to get him to his mother in one piece.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Oh yes! Definitely the BEST one yet!!!! By Mary Jane Kail The story begins with Jess in Ballenger, Texas on the trail of wanted outlaw, Tad Worthy. He has stopped to find a doctor because of a leg wound he received from "Black Heart." While there he visits the local law dog, Sheriff Monroe Bean. Jess finds that Worthy might be hiding out in the abandoned mines on the outskirts of town. Sheriff Bean goes with Jess to check the mines out & they come upon 13 year old Jamie who's father has been killed by the very outlaw Jess is hunting. Worthy gets away during a shootout and shoots Jamie in the arm.Jamie is bound & determined to kill the man who shot his Pa & nothing the sheriff or Jess can do will dissuade him.It's a wild ride with Jess trying to keep Jamie alive & also trying to teach him the dangers of living by the gun. As they head for Pulido, Texas Jess reveals to Jamie about his folks being murdered when he was about Jamie's age. But he says, "When my folks were killed I had an advantage," tapping his pistol. Jamie says, "I got an advantage too...I've got you!!!"Fans will love this latest adventure.Jess Williams...here's a big hug & a big kiss to you!Robert J. By PMSteve The Jess Williams series is, in my opinion, one of the best Western Series of books on the market today, and that includes those by Louis L'Amour.What makes them great is the main character, Jess Williams. Having overcome the murders of his entire family, Jess goes on to become the best bounty hunter in the West. The story or his unique gun has become part of the myth of Williams. How did a custom fast-draw Ruger from the 21st century wind up in the late 1800s? Read the first three books to find out.Jess hunts only the worst of the bad men. The ones who are wanted dead or alive. Bringing them in alive seems to never be in the cards, though. The bad guys always underestimate Jess and his Ruger six-shooter.When Jess becomes a Deputy US Marshall, the stories take on a new perspective. He has the might of the Marshalls Division behind him.Jess never misses and is never out gunned. Quite the hero of the Old West. I've read every Jess Williams novel and I'll eagerly wait for the next and the next to come out.Mr. Robert J. Thomas has a knack for the Western novel. I hope he keeps up the good work. One day I'll re-read the entire series and keep a tally of all the men Jess has sent to hell. I'll wager the number is mighty high!If you want some very entertaining reading, just start at the beginning. You won't be disappointed.

There is a comforting sameness to his stories and they are a good way to lose one's self in time By djm Robert J Thomas is a prolific writer and turns out a quick but interesting book to read. There is enough history and back ground, coupled with plenty of action. There is a comforting sameness to his stories and they are a good way to lose one's self in time.
