Nick Caine and Ishi Cuyamel return to the United States with heavy hearts following a series of unexpected surprises in Scotland… surprises that have left them without Marie Da Vinci while placing the pair in the coerced employment of a secretive United States government agency…. But rather than face the threat of extended jail time for their role in looting precious artifacts from throughout the world, Nick and Ishi agree to give up their livelihoods as ‘creative archaeologists’. If only working for ‘Project Golden Eye’ was that simple. Nick and Ishi’s first assignment should be one that plays to their strengths and familiarity, since it involves yet another lost ‘city of gold’. However, when a noted archaeologist and his family disappear amid rumors of headhunters on the loose in the Amazon jungles of Ecuador, Nick and Ishi soon find themselves facing a deadly menace once again. Teemed up with a beautiful and beguiling translator named Mayta Navarro, whose ancestors were once part of the feared Javaro tribe, the trio soon learns that a renegade shaman named Shuratu is likely responsible for the archaeologist’s disappearance. Facing the same potential destiny of losing their heads, Nick’s and Ishi’s fate depends on whether they can survive numerous perils lurking in the upper Amazon Basin, or instead become the next victims in the River of the Damned…. Acclaim for the novels of Aiden James: "Aiden James has a keen eye for detail and an uncanny knack for scaring the hell out of me. We are watching a master at work. "The Raven Mocker" is a nearly perfect thriller. Ghost stories don't get any better than this." --J.R. Rain, Bestselling author of the "Vampire for Hire" series "As with the previous titles I have read by this author, I found the author's writing style to be silky smooth and the main plot line to be extremely creative. The fertile imagination of Aiden James definitely knows what today's readers want to see in their stories." --Detra Fitch, Huntress Reviews for "The Vampires' Last Lover"

The series, when it began at the hands of J.R. Rain and Aiden James, focused on dangerous patches of nature such as jungles and islands. There were creatures, tough and ferocious. Natives held their own. The villains chose to play hardball with our 2 tomb raiders the intrepid Nick Caine and his sidekick Ishi. The tone of the books changed a bit (not saying they were any less, just different). Change has come again and swung back with a twist the readers never coming.Secret of the Loch ended with the disappearance of one their own and the bad boys Nick and Ishi got nabbed (call it not much of a choice) by U.S. authorities. The new gig is stopping tomb raiders like they were. What a gas! But first, a side trip to the Amazon forest to find some missing explorers. Warnings are issued about a powerful madman Shuratu who has thing about collecting heads. Shuratu is no slouch and the journey will be hard, hot, and full of magic. My kind of story.River of the Damned is genuinely good, Nick Caine at his best, the villain hard to defeat. This book will be a pleasure for you to read as it was for me. Hard hitting action, a fight for life and death, and a wonderful & exciting change in the series a lot of us have come to love. Join the club.

By Pixie River of The Damned By Aiden James:Synopsis:Nick Caine and Ishi Cuyamel return to the United States with heavy hearts following a series of unexpected surprises in Scotland… surprises that have left them without Marie Da Vinci while placing the pair in the coerced employment of a secretive United States government agency. But rather than face the threat of extended jail time for their role in looting precious artifacts from throughout the world, Nick and Ishi agree to give up their livelihoods as ‘creative archaeologists’. If only working for ‘Project Golden Eye’ was that simple, since part of their recruitment means handling assignments that entail much more than simply baiting and capturing antiquities thieves like themselves….Nick and Ishi’s first assignment should be one that plays to their strengths and familiarity, since it involves yet another lost ‘city of gold’. However, since this particular ancient metropolis lies somewhere deep in the Amazon jungles of Ecuador, it does not carry the renowned status of most other legendary sites in South America. It is this rare status that attracted Dr. Nathaniel Pierce—a noted scholar who has uncovered other forgotten treasures in Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela. The philanthropic archaeologist set out to find this Ecuadorian trove before anyone else might plunder it. But that was three months ago, and no one has heard since from Dr. Pierce and his party that included his wife, children, and a brother, along with several assistants.Agent Brandon Jacobs—Nick and Ishi’s field supervisor—was once very close to Sandra Pierce, Nathaniel’s daughter, and is deeply worried. Due to a personal conflict of interest he can’t get involved, and instead puts his job on the line by diverting Nick and Ishi from their assigned tasks of hunting down other looters to rescue Sandra and her family. The agent sets up a meeting between the pair and a beguiling translator who knows the Ecuadorian jungles quite well, named Mayta Navarro. Strikingly beautiful, this native Ecuadorian’s outspoken confidence and Nick’s devil-may-care outlook pits the two against each other from the start. However, Mayta’s ancestors were once part of the feared Javaro tribe—best known for their fierce independence from modern society and the ancient practice of shrinking their enemies’ severed heads. In truth, she is the perfect guide to aid Nick and Ishi in the search for Dr. Pierce. As fate would have it, Dr. Pierce’s exploration party was last seen heading into the remote jungles that belong to the Javaro. Mayta’s comfort in dealing with the Javaro might mean very little—especially if a rumor proves true that a wicked shaman named Shuratu has captured the family and their friends. Time may have already run out for Dr. Pierce and his party, but will Nick and Ishi face the same potential destiny of having their heads becoming belt ornaments in the effort to save the innocent? Or can he again find a way to best a cunningly evil adversary, while also resisting the instinctive urge to collect artifacts from a treasure heretofore believed to be purely mythical?Nick’s fate and Ishi’s depends on whether the pair can survive the perils lurking in the upper Amazon Basin, or instead become the next victims in the River of the Damned…. My Review:It is no secret I am a HUGE fan of Aiden James ! I don't care if he writes a dinner menu, I want to read it! As with most of my reviews you can see what the story line is in the synopsis, My review is to tell you what I thought of the book. I LOVED it! This is the 6th installment of the Nick Caine series and I wondered how Mr. James was going to deal with the demise of Maria, and as I hoped he didn't disappoint! Nick and Ishi are on an unplanned adventure to save a family and dear friend of one of the Agents they now work for, Brandon Jacobs, this is an Undocumented rescue that goes deep into the Ecuadorian Jungles . Nick is probably one of my favorite characters in an Adventure series! we get to see through his eyes and feel through his emotions. Its an amazing way to read a book! Mr James introduces a new Character, Mayta, Nick and Ishi's guide thru the jungle. I Love Mayta! She's strong yet feminine, is sweet but with an attitude ! She is a great counter part to Nick in this story. This is a story of Which Doctors and Shrunken heads, Magical Protectors, Demons and a rescue just made by the skin of their teeth ..and not everyone survives! I recommend this book for a Great Adventure! You won't be sorry! I give this book 5 shrunken heads. Well Done Mr James!

He has once again given us a riveting action adventure which is well written with a fast-paced plot. He draws the reader in from the very beginning with this mystical adventure and leaves the reader wanting more. his characters are well developed and at times one can feel the tension between the characters. His descriptions of the jungle let the reader get lost in the story with the characters. These books would make such a good tv series. I highly suggest clearing an afternoon for this book because you won't want to put this one down. Can't wait for the next one!
