A Intriguing Blend of Romance, Suspense with Great Gothic Undertones By Stephanie Patterson I like my romances rich, full-bodied and with complex undertones. "Etiquette with the Devil," nicely filled my glass with its sinister house and brooding master. Our heroine, Clara, arrives at a crumbling mansion having walked five miles in a torrential downpour. She is a lady a mystery who has been wounded by life in more ways than one. Rebecca Paula flirts with gothic elements reminiscent of "Jane Eyre," but she never over-plays her hand. Clara is no Jane. Clara would have boxed Rochester's ears and settled his mad wife down with a bath and a nice cup of tea. Our heroine is tough - more tough than she knows, especially at the beginning of the story. Her hero, Bly, is a wounded warrior who seeks absolution, yet refuses it at every turn. In his mind he is irredeemable and unworthy of the heroine, destined to love her, but also destined to destroy her. He nearly succeeds at his own prophecy. These characters are richly drawn at the onset of the story and continue growing throughout the entire book. You laugh with them, hope for them, despair with them and come to love them. There is a fair amount of humor and light-heartedness blended into the plot and Ms. Paula she uses every bit of her writer's skill to carry you along on Bly and Clara's journey. Her pacing is excellent; not slow in the middle, nor rushed at the end. Each gut punch - and believe me there are plenty of them - leaves you doubting that all will be well, yet through it all you care what happens to these people. I highly recommend, "Etiquette with the Devil."

By Amazon Customer This book was such a wonderful discovery for me after plodding through some really terribly written and boring historical romances. I won't go into a synopsis since another reviewer has done that very well.A. Finally! An author who can truly write and craft an amazing story! The book grabbed me from the beginning, and held me to the very end. Not once did I want to skim through or flip pages forward because the story had lost interest for me or become tedious.B. Then there's the author's writing. Such amazing and beautiful prose! In reading most other romance books, I skim the love scenes because they all seem to be written with a common formula --- boringly the same. However, when the love scene between the hero and heroine finally occurs, her prose renders it achingly beautiful.I am a new fan of Rebecca Paula. An amazing and gifted writer!

Clara is a firecracker and Bly is as broody as they come, in the best possible way. If you're looking for a book that will break your heart, you've found it. Curl up with your favorite form of caffeine because you won't want to put it down.
