5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Meh By Kindle Customer Horribly written. Gratuitous sex, characters you want to die, and two kids get killed and all they can say is "don't moan about it". Save your dollar.
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A Valiant Effort By A Customer I tried so hard to get into this book, from start to finish it was a chore. I appreciate what the author was trying to do, I just didn't find it enjoyable. Spoilers ahead.First and foremost I liked the idea of Runners - a more World War Z style infection carrier rather than the slow, shambling, mindless, headshot only variety that the zombie market is saturated with. It was a compelling thought that Runners may still retain human qualities - cleverness, strategic ability, etc. however there was a major disconnect between the setup and the execution. Sue's son would have unbuckled his seatbelt, Hospital Gown hit by the car and not only lived but continued to run. Doubtful. And kind of ruined the premise that they were, ultimately, still human and retained human frailty.The sheer amount of time dedicated to sexual encounters and the need to use the restroom was irritating and pulled me out of the story every time. I feel the author was going for a very real world, day to day amidst the worst case scenario situation and I was into it until it became a running theme. 'Oh I need to use the restroom so I'll ignore the dead body in the bathtub and the fact that my home was just full of runners and I'm gonna sit on the toilet for specifically 3 minutes.' I'm sorry. No. These instances, while very real in the sense that everyone has basic needs even when everything has gone down the drain, broke the reality of the story in awkward and surely unintentionally amusing ways and made it that much harder to connect and stay present with the story. As far as sexual encounters I could always do without them especially when it's the intro of new characters whom I have no emotional investment in. It felt... Cheap.Last but not least I would like to briefly address the children of this story. Bearing in mind the authors apparent desire to keep it real there were children in this story and I'm fine with that. The issue I have is that in the first chapter or so 2 died in brutal manner. It's the apocalypse, I get it, that's a part of that reality. I feel like making it a recurring theme though is distasteful. I have binged on zombie horror for some time now and this was the first book I encountered that broached the subject of ZA children and I can understand now why. It's repulsive. Props to the author for trying, but in retrospect I think that is content that may have been limited or entirely removed during the editing process and alluded to with a little more dignity than outright described.Ultimately the idea was solid, the execution was shoddy. I had to force myself through each page hoping that it would get better, it just didn't.

Without knowing so you get involved with the characters and begin, in my mind anyway, yell at them telling them what to do even though you know their ignorance is going to get them killed. In actuality, this book is more plausible that 90% of the other plague,zombie books I have read. These characters are not pre-military will skills to use to survive nor peppers. This was very refreshing for me since I have read so many and usually find myself saying, under my breath, "but, what about those of us with no skills and limited knowledge of survival?" So, if you are like me and would be messed over good if such a thing happened in real life, this book is for you. Now a message to Shaun. You have to keep writing making a series out of this because actually, this IS how it would be for most of mankind and probably worse. So, keep writing... I for sure will buy the series if in fact you choose to continue on. For those who are contemplating and then decide to buy this book, be sure to leave a review no matter what you think of a book and I ask for two reasons. First, if you want them to keep writing people need to try their book out. Second, this is how they support themselves and their family. If people don't know their book is well worth the read, they won't buy it and the poor author might go without a meal or just stop writing. Lol I have read so many awesome books where the writer has great talent and a fresh approach to a genre yet I hear no more from them. On researching the issue, I found one thing in common, they have very few reviews. It made me very sad. I am faithful in writing a review for very book I read. Why? Because it's respectful, information for a potential reader and beneficial to the writer and us. If they are good at creating a book worth reading, wouldn't you want more from them?
