Madeline’s built her own company, Grounded Marketing at the expense of her own love life, but she’s okay with that. She’s driven and determined to stand on her own two feet. She’s facing the biggest pitch of her career, and Paul Neilsen, an established media giant, has volunteered to mentor her. And then, you guessed it, romance happens. The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between-Impressed with the writing: Ms. Williams is a new-to-me author, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was expecting a fairly light fluffy story, but there’s more than meets the eye and I enjoyed alot of it. Maddy and Paul’s romance isn’t based on messiness with jealousy or insecurities, but builds in a natural way, with realistic obstacles between two grown ups. There’s an age difference (Paul is 15 years older) and emotional baggage from both, but I felt it was all handled very well. This is told in first person POV, and I believe that’s not as easy to pull off but Ms. Williams imbued Madeline with a strong, clear voice and it really works for this story.-Part of series, but read as standalone: This is the second book in the City Love series, but it’s not necessary to read the first one. I haven’t, and I didn’t feel as if I was missing any major information. I would like to check out the first book eventually.-Business-based romance that actually conducts business: This is based in Australia and in the marketing industry, so no I don't know how accurate it all is. But it certainly felt genuine and plausible. So many times when a business is the backdrop to romance, it’s done only in the most basic way. I loved that it is an integral part of this tale. It serves to show Maddy and Paul’s compatibility and their understanding and connection are highlighted by their conversations about business.-Great female friendships: Madeline has a great support system of friends who love and understand her. I always appreciate romances where the heroine has relationships with other women that isn’t all about competition over the lead or shaming the local neighborhood slut. Here, the core friend group of Cate, Christa and Scarlett have their own distinct personalities and lives. It’s not all sunshine and roses, either, (I thought she was a bit harsh with Scarlett) but they are as complicated as most female friendships can be and I really enjoyed that realistic touch.-Beta hero in Paul: Paul’s an older hero who’s concerned about getting involved with a younger woman. He’s built up his own company with his best friend, and he’s living with the regrets of missing out on his kids’ childhoods because he was so busy working. Paul’s not your aggressive type of alpha, but a really solid beta hero who’s supportive and understanding, and exactly what was needed to balance out Madeline.-Madeline’s determined to take care of herself: Maddy’s exactly what you expect from a driven, strong heroine. She’s a bit of a control freak and has a hard time realizing that she doesn’t have to do everything on her own. She’s quick to judge and protect herself, and yes that can be frustrating. But I think it fit her character and her personal journey was worth the moments of frustration.-Sexy times are mild: There’s definitely sex, but on a hotness scale, it leaves you with more of a warm feeling than a need to turn on a fan. Much more is alluded to than explicitly described, but it worked within this story.-Pacing was my only real issue: I enjoyed seeing the story unfold in a realistic manner, but I wouldn’t have minded the story tightened up a bit so that there’s not as many lulls between the big beats. Somewhere around the halfway mark, my attention started to wander, just because there wasn’t much going on, just day-to-day scenes that probably weren’t necessary to the overall storyline. The Bottom LineI really enjoyed it. I’d recommend for those who enjoy business-oriented, contemporary romances, and I’m definitely adding this to the list of series I’d like to continuing reading.**ARC provided by publisher via netgalley for review**

Amazing story By Amy Note: I was provided with a copy of this book from the publisher for review.I truly and honestly can say I never was, nor ever thought I would be, a romance lover or someone who got excited and invested in a couple in a book but this book has momentarily changed that. What Belinda Williams has created her is a wonderful balance of clever writing, sweet but not sappy story, and real characters that feel like genuine people rather than stuck simply on a page.Every aspect of this story feels so real, whether that is because I recognise the places and can picture it playing out, or just because Williams' writing brings the story to life so incredibly well. There are surprises and bumps along the way and while you think you know how it will end, there are still surprises in store that make it an enthralling read and just the right kind of bumpy. The characters are diverse, not just in their personality but with everything. Each revelation of character is a joy and Williams skilfully makes the characters complicated and deep yet simple on the page. Being the second in the series there are brief mentions about the events in the previous book but no more than passing references compared to a full recap. The friendship between the four women is divine and through dialogue and actions the writing captures and expresses the intense and loving relationship between the friends, but also the brutal honesty and tough love as well, sympathising and highly supportive while not enabling or mollycoddling.I loved the complications in this story, and I loved how rooted in reality they were. It was nothing grand or overblown but different and unique, and the everyday nature of the story while still being climactic and dramatic made it intriguing. This is a slow burn romance, and while it seems like it is going to be a fast, wild, love story Williams paces it remarkably well. The romance is natural with understandable barriers, and without a love at first sight passion but still enough to start something. There is also restraint with things like sex scenes but Williams doesn't make it plain either, nor does she skip over it like it isn't important to the story or character relationship. The story is clever, classy, and adult with real issues, but has the romance in it with style and heartfelt sincerity. With great characters and clever writing Williams has added to the City Love series a wonderful narrative that brings the realities of life with the dreams of romance together with resounding success. I look forward to continuing the rest of the series because I know it is only going to get better.A longer version of this review was published on my blog https://lostinagoodbk.wordpress.com/2015/05/28/the-pitch-city-romance-2-by-belinda-williams/

It is a captivating read, complete with an engaging storyline, well-defined characters and a complicated, yet heated romance. This story takes place in the land down under, specifically Sydney, plus the descriptive harbor settings, colloquialisms and venues, truly provide the reader with a genuine appreciation of the city and its inhabitants.Madeline Spencer has worked her way up the corporate ladder through determination, and hours upon hours of hard-work. She manages her own successful marketing agency, Grounded Marketing, and she hasn't even turned 30 yet. Although Maddy has wonderful friends and a supportive family, she is somewhat of a loner when it comes to relationships. It has been four years since any man has tickled her fancy, so when Paul Neilsen steps into her office and offers to become her mentor, she has difficulty conversing because she is so attracted to him. Paul feels an immediate connection to Madeline as well, however, he feels compelled to distance himself due to his slightly advanced age and familial baggage. Paul is somewhat of a media mogul and he is known for his ability to wow potential clients and reel them in. Their respective businesses compliment each other.Slowly, Maddy and Paul's successful business venture evolves into much more. They are a hot couple both in and out of the bedroom. Love is in the air, but Maddy and Paul have to overcome some obstacles in order to share a future together. Luckily, their mischievous friends realize how perfect they are for one another. This is a heartwarming love story that will cause all your senses to remain on high alert. Ms. Williams is an excellent storyteller and her words kept me entertained from beginning to end. If you enjoy a novel with a strong heroine, an eclectic group of caring friends, and a hero that just won't give up, then spend sometime in Oz with The Pitch.Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
