From Drew Avera, author of The Dead Planet Series, comes an all new vision of humanity's future. VERITY is the second book in The Dead Planet Series Twenty-five hundred years in the future humans have colonized Mars. The advancements in technology have taken humanity to a new world, but in that new society the problems of old have once again taken root. Corruption and murder are on the rise, but not from lowlifes on the streets. The real threat to civilization lies in the one world governing entity known as The Syndicate. Armed with money and power, The Syndicate rules with an iron fist. Their form of government has brought forth an era of humanity that has surpassed every empire in human history, but behind that veil of wealth is The Agency; an organization of Policemen who do anything except protect and serve. Against incredible odds, Serus Blackwell, a Policeman within The Agency, is determined to save humanity from a horrible truth discovered by his sister Kara. In the crosshairs of The Syndicate, Serus fights to save the only member of his family he has left–and in the process, might end up saving himself. After arriving on planet Earth, Serus and Kara are taken prisoner by a local group of soldiers. Knowing that The Syndicate will do anything to stay in power, Serus forms an unlikely alliance in order to stop The Syndicate from taking control of Earth and hope to find the answers they need in order to save the people on Mars. But it may be too late! If you love fast-paced science fiction then take a peek inside a world controlled by The Syndicate. The future is darker than you think… Questions with the author Why did you want to become a writer? I grew up reading comic books and hated novels. I felt they took too long to read and didn't stimulate my imagination the way comics did. I got into comic books because I loved Batman The Animated Series and the X-Men cartoon from the 1990's. When I was sixteen I found a book by Peter David called "The Incredible Hulk: What Savage Beast" and that changed everything. It was the first book I bought, paid for with lunch money I squandered. What is it about science fiction that appeals to you? There is a certain type of story that can only be seen through the filter of science fiction. The characters can all be the same as the literary counterparts, certain elements in the plot can carry over, but in science fiction there is an underlying thread to the story that appeals to me. It doesn't matter if it's a space adventure like Star Trek, or a dystopian series like the Hunger Games, the thread I recognize is like a heart beat. It makes the story more alive and interesting. That's something I hope I can create with my own stories. I want people to see the thread woven into it as if it were its own character. What is on your kindle right now? I've got a lot of stuff on my kindle actually. I've recently downloaded some Batman comic books which is weird to read on a tablet, but it's cool because it's always in mint condition lol. I also have the Silo Saga by Hugh Howey, The Beam by Sean Platt and Johnny B Truant, and some nonfiction book marketing books by Joanna Penn and Nick Stephenson. If you could recommend any book, other than your own, which would it be? Man, my favorite book changes a lot since there's so much cool stuff out there. I think today I would suggest Enders Game by Orson Scott Card. The book is pretty good, I still need to see the movie, though. I've been slacking lol.

By Amazon Customer Verity takes off immediately where Exodus ended and just like Exodus, it leaves you on the edge of your seat the whole time! Drew Avera really knows how to keep his readers in suspense. I just can't wait for the third installment of the Dead Planet series.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. "She looked fairly tired" By Norma Miles I wanted to like this book, really I did. I have read and greatly enjoyed other of Mr.Avera's work. But this I cannot include as part. Written in the first person, the story continues to follow Serus, our assassin policeman hero (from Exodus) as, together with his sister and girlfriend, they travel to earth in an attempt to put an end to the Syndicate but then decide also to save Mars There is a lot of self deprication and gnashing of teeth over his history and so many tears wiped from the corners of eyes, a touch of jealousy and protestations of love. Yet the characterisations fail, all is flat and unformed. But worse is the apparent missing (and crucial) central section between chapters 14 and 15, crucial since it seems to change the direction of their objectives. Two stars for the conceptual story and the last two chapters which promise so much more. But for the book as a whole it needs serious editing, and proof reading, also, to become worth the reading. It could have been good - such a pity
