About the Author
Alan McDermott is a husband and a father to beautiful twin girls, and currently lives in the south of England.
Born in West Germany to Scottish parents, Alan spent his early years moving from town to town as his father was posted to different army units around the United Kingdom. Alan has had a number of jobs since leaving school, including working on a cruise ship in Hong Kong and Singapore, where he met his wife, and as a software developer creating clinical applications for the National Health Service. Alan gave up his day job in December 2014 to become a full-time author.
Alan’s writing career began in 2011 with the action thriller Gray Justice, his first full-length novel.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Best of the series By Ignite This latest book in the Tom Gray series is a fantastic action thriller. It poses a number of questions to the reader. Would you welcome a system of surveillance which could access everything you typed on your computer or sent on your phone? Not even if it were capable of putting an end to potential terrorist threats? How much do you value personal privacy? The story begins with preparations for a massive attack on roads, airports and hospitals in Britain. The attack is more ferocious and long- lasting than the people who set it up envisaged. Somebody is going to gain from this and the corruption goes very high up. Tom Gray’s and his team are on the track of the old enemy though they are thwarted at every turn. As always, this story is fast and furious. Tom Gray is desperate not to let harm befall his baby daughter who has already been a victim of those determined to kill him.The book is written in a direct and uncompromising manner and I was drawn deeply into it. It’s a revelation about how potentially easy it would be to get information from our use of technology and I’m getting nervous about using my elderly mobile phone! If I had one criticism, though it’s probably my memory at fault, I found that similar sounding names, like Harvey, Hamad and Harper tripped me up as I tried to remember who was involved. This wasn’t enough to spoil my enjoyment of what is possibly the best of the series so far. It’s one of those stories you don’t want to put down and I read it in two days. Excellent!Thanks to the publisher for a review copy.

Curnutt I didn't find book five as engaging as the first four books in the series, and that is because Tom Gray doesn't really play a major role in the book until about 60% of the way through. He has some influence in the beginning section but really the beginning section revolves around Andrew Harvey, Veronica Ellis and some new characters that the author brings in.So, as a Tom Gray novel it seemed a bit different to have to wait so long for the Tom Gray appearance to take front and center stage.With that said, I enjoyed the book completely and enjoy the writing of Alan McDermott, my only reason for the four star review is that Tom Gray is kept out of the main part of the book until the last half.The story is about a terrorist attempt to cripple Britain and cause it major financial set back as well as destroy infrastructure and confidence from the British people in their government. I found the terrorist part frightening as it made so much sense as to how a small group of people could actually inflict major harm on a country/society. Two hundred people trained fairly well can wreck havoc in a way that is unnerving.The next plot of the story is that there is a secret government weapon that has been developed by the United States and Britain that if put in place can help weed out the terrorist before they do harm. It is a technological weapon that is embedded in the mother-board of smart phones, laptops, tablets and even desktop computers. This technology allows the government to ease drop on all the phone calls, text messages and E-mails that people are communicating. Using Key Words they can track and find plots before they happen.So, why did Britain have major attacks, with thousands killed, before they caught the two hundred people responsible? Because the technology though available was not in use because the governments feared the backlash from the population if they used such an invasive technology.So, who was the mastermind of the attacks? A small group of terrorist from Africa? Yeah, right. Or was it government and well placed people in England?Tom Gray is also caught in this because the people responsible want to kill him specifically because of his past actions. A man by the name of Farrar has been released from prison and placed on house arrest, but he disappears and no one knows about it for five months, yeah, really?This man wants Tom Gray dead. This man wants England to pay for his problems.The book is very interesting in regards to technology, terrorism and in regards to Tom Gray and his ability to solve problems.If you have loved the Tom Gray series you will love this book, but you might be like me, just a bit disappointed that Tom didn't play a bigger role through the whole book.Enjoy!

Britain under Attack by Terrorists By Nyssa A group of two hundred potential terrorists are brought to a remote African location for intensive training in munitions, explosives, and mayhem for a coordinated series of attacks on Great Britain's infrastructure. Who is funding the efforts and for what end purpose? Agents from MI5 frantically begin searching for the answers and ways to find and round up the terrorists to stop the attacks.The opening premise of the book was a frightening catalog of events of what could happen if properly planned and managed by a terrorist organization. The targeting of transportation hubs, power transmission facilities, and hospitals illustrated how relatively easily a country could be brought to a standstill with a few strategically-placed explosions and attacks. Yes, England is more compact than the US, but the US still relies heavily on a few airport hubs for transportation such as O'Hare airport in Chicago and a centralized financial industry in Manhattan. It's not an encouraging train of thought when considering our defenses against such attacks, but serves to raise awareness of our vulnerability.Another aspect of the book concerns a top secret tool offered up to Great Britain by the US'a NSA to aid in tracking down these and future, potential terrorists and their threats. The description of this counter-weapon is chilling and all too possible considering the revelations of other tactics that have already been used by the NSA. Big Brother writ large. (As a computer scientist, I can think of several workarounds that could be used to dodge the system as described in the story, but like so many things in life, you need to be aware of the threat before you can counteract it.)Yet another facet of the book dealt with tracking down both a fugitive from British justice, James Farrar, and the leader behind the terrorist attacks. This is where the book began to follow the time-worn trail of detective work by covert agents and the uncovering of suspected conspiracies.Not having read the previous books in this series, I was at a loss about the lead character, Tom Gray, owner of private security firm Minotaur Logistics, and his history with the fugitive, Farrar. What caused the two men to become such bitter enemies? What is Farrar's background and motivations? What were the charges laid against Farrar? A paragraph or two explaining some of this would have been very welcome and could possibly have helped make the ending make a bit more sense. The explanation given at the end for the reasoning behind the attacks and conspiracy seemed thin, incomplete, and unconvincing.Recommended for the terror attack and countermeasures portions of the book, but less so for the conspiracy portion of the story.A free copy of this ebook was provided to me by the publisher for review purposes.
