Not thats there is anything wrong with it if that is what you feel like reading but it does get repetative and boring after a while. This romance had it all the attractive and handsome lawman/ bear shifter and the big beautiful strong and troubled damsel in distress. They fall in love. Family problems arise and bad guys get their just desserts. Family is made up of four other handsome bear shifters who I am sure will get their own stories in the future. This is the beginning of a wonderful series. The author includes sex and family, love and friends. This is the total package in a smaller box. It is not a full novel. I would recommend it for a lazy afternoon.

By Kindle enthusiast I have been making my way through several of bear shifter books lately, but the bear shifters of Pinerock are the best! This story has a great balance between suspense and romance. What is even better are the characters in the story and how they relate to one another. This is just a first in what I know would be a great series!

I loved how feisty Tara was and loved the first interaction between her and Axl. This had all the elements I love for a shifter story and I would definitely recommend to shifter fans.

This episode was a really solid setup for the next and it finished up nicely with what has been going on the last couple episodes as well. Star Force managed to gain a very nice asset in the process of all this which is good. Although it was a bit rough going at first I'm glad to see a good outcome from it.

One of the best future histories of the world I have ever read, so far going over 500 years into the future, I hope it lasts for another 10k.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. One of the very best books I've read in a L-O-N-G time By Ellen Let me preface this by saying I read a lot. Like every day for hours a day. I have read thousands of books and rarely is there one that is so original in its concept, its style and its writing. This book is one such book.There are multiple threads throughout the story, and they all tie back to the two main characters: Martha, a slightly impaired or otherwise "not quite there" older woman and Arthur, a handsome, 40-something Episcopalian priest new to the town because of a scandal in his previous post. The supporting characters all have something to do with the church where Arthur is assigned and the reader gets to know different facets of the lead characters by their interactions with the townspeople.The writing is top-notch. I loved how the point of view would change as the reader was allowed to see other characters. I loved how very "real" these people felt. I am not a gay 40-something man or a slightly deranged 60+ overweight woman, but I could absolutely relate to these people because the writing was so good. There were numerous instances throughout the book where I paused to say, "My God, that's so true!" One little example: the author writes about a teenage boy leaping up the front steps and slamming his palm across the lintel of the doorway. I have two teenage sons and my doorways have lots of smudgy fingerprints.Sometimes just the choice of a single word is so perfectly placed in this story that I would stop and re-read the sentence to savor the writing. That skill is rare and one of the many factors that made this book stand above so many others. It's laugh-out-loud funny at several points, too. Lastly, the author does not hit you over the head to explain things; sometimes, an act in the past is referenced so subtly that I had to re-read that part and would realize what had happened.Read this book. It's great, it feels very real and the characters are fully developed. You won't like them all, but that isn't the point. You will love Arthur. This book left me wanting to know more about what will happen to these people. I hope there will be more.

Burk I will probably be the only reviewer to note that there is a serious thematic relationship to Stephen King here. I think the reason it won't look that way to others is that Stephen King doesn't do X-rated sex, and is certainly not known for gay sex scenes or sex from a woman's perspective. What King does do is look unflinchingly at reality that most of us would turn away from. I think the reason most people won't see that Lassiter is capable of the same quease-inducing voyeurism is because she turns her eye on things King wouldn't (or might get in trouble for).Which sounds like I'm talking about sex, but in fact I'm talking about Martha. The surprising thing for me about this book is that a first-time author has created a character I find not just memorable, but unlike any other I can recall. Oh, you can find older, obese, not so stable women characters, but I think you have to look a long time to find any like Martha. She does not see herself as you see her, and your opinion is simply irrelevant to her view of the world. The King gaze pops out in the first pages where you get to see the obese Martha struggling to get dressed to face the world. As with King, you want to look away, but you cannot help peeking through your fingers to see what's going to happen next. I cannot say Martha is the star, because this is a very multi-threaded plotline. I will say that whenever Martha takes the stage, she dominates it. This book is labelled "Vol 1", and though I know nothing about future volumes, I find them hard to envision unless Martha finds some Moriarty-like way to return from her apparently definitive exit here.Other King-isms include the intersection with the supernatural, the conflict between traditional religion and modern life, and mortal danger and murder. I can't say that whether you do or don't like Stephen King predicts how you'll feel about this book -- they're just too different in many other ways. I can say that if you share thematic elements with King in your first published novel and do not suffer by comparison, then you are a first-time author to watch.The nuts-and-bolts writing is just impeccable. I read best-sellers that have far more awkward turns of phrase and even simple typos than I can find in this book. Other things I expect a first-time author to do poorly at: regional accents, religion, humor, sex, and snakes. Lassiter seems to have set out to take on all challenges at once. When she talks about handling snakes, or being gay in the church, you are presented with rich, convincing specifics, not caricatures. How-to books for would-be authors often emphasize how fast you must churn them out to make a profit. Filthy lucre must not be Lassiter's goal, for there is no way this finely researched book could have been written quickly.With its explicit sex and variegated plot and high-quality prose, this is a hard novel to pigeonhole. I don't know what to say to help you figure out if you will enjoy the story or not. However, I think it is not subjective to say that this is a real talent at work here, and you could do worse than to take a chance on this first novel. Whatever else you take away from this book, I guarantee you will never forget Martha.

Pour yourself a bourbon and settle in for a delicious read. There are three main interlocking stories - the sixty-six-year-old Martha Browne looking for love (in all the wrong places); Father Arthur, looking for peace and a new start; and Darlene, a voluptuous interior decorator looking to find herself (though she doesn't know she needs finding).I don't want to give away any plot points because each one is a pleasure to discover, but this novel manages to show human beings at their very desperate, and does it with heart, humor, and affection. I enjoyed immersing myself in the world of Amity, Kentucky because it's filled with people who are, at their base, good, who want to do their best, and who often fail in the most spectacular ways.Recommend.

Fearful Weeks is the sixth riveting installment of Sarah J Brooks' seductive new serial and I must say, I'm totally captivated. This is a serialized story so if you haven't read the previous books in the series, PLEASE STOP HERE. Okay, I realize that multi-installment serials may not be for everyone but what can I say, I love them. And Sarah Brooks just got my attention! This is my first time reading anything written by Brooks but I can say with absolute certainty, it won't be my last. I am so hooked on this series! I love the concept of this story: a strong female lead with BRAINS. She's not only beautiful but intelligent as well and the icing on the cake: she has a mind of her own. Of course, we all love a handsome alpha male lead and love them all the more when they're charming and intelligent. And let's not forget - filthy rich! Who can resist that combination??? The story is exciting, sensual, arousing, well crafted, suspenseful and completely held my attention. Once I started reading, it was easy to immerse myself in the story and I wanted more. The narrative is exceptionally well written in the first person with his, his and her points of view, which I love. Yep, I said his twice and that wasn't a mistake. There are now two men weighing in with their take on the events as they happen. That's all I can say without giving too much away but what I can say is this - I love it! I believe this adds to the depth and complexity of the story and definitely gives us a better understanding of the characters, their feelings and motivations. The dialogue is smart, snappy, easy to follow and flows effortlessly. And now for the best part, the characters. They are fascinating, captivating, intriguing, engaging and relatable. The chemistry between the three main characters is convincing and at times, quite perplexing but in a good way. Quite simply, it is off the charts sexy and thrilling! Brooks skillfully crafts these elements into a fabulously entertaining contemporary romance with a twist. What kind of twist, you ask? Well, it's a little too early to tell but I strongly suspect that we will have a little mystery and suspense in the near future. (And we most definitely do!) And please forgive me for being crass, but we didn't have to wait until halfway through the book for the mind-blowing sex! Oh no, Brooks rewarded us in the very first installment and gave us a little taste of how well suited these characters are for each other. I can hardly wait to read the next installment!Beautiful graduate student Becka Jasper is definitely on her way to a very promising and successful career. She's had to work hard for everything she has and intends to work even harder to get what she wants. When Oliver Weeks, CEO of Neuotova is invited to speak as a guest lecturer by Dr Evans, Becka's professor/advisor/mentor, she is able to snag an interview for an internship with Oliver Weeks, CEO of Neuotova, a major food research corporation. 3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Left me feeling very frustrated By Wolverine I was thoroughly enjoying this series until this book, Fearful Weeks. The story line made me so frustrated that Becka could bounce back and forth between Ethan and Oliver, so disturbed that she rushes back to Oliver's house and finds Ethan there.....believing everything he tells her. She never once thinks it's strange that Ethan, who doesn't get along with Oliver,is in his house acting like it's his own? Not to mention she almost sleeps with Ethan in Oliver's house! The story just got too crazy for me to like it and I am not sure now that I will finish the series. Becka needs to stop acting so stupid and grow up! The deal with Ethan and Oliver just needs to come out....which one is really responsible for animal testing. Sorry Ms. Brooks.....I do love your stories but you lost me on this one.

"A Twist of Fae" sets the stage for future stories By William Cawthon "Twist of Fae" might be a disappointment to some, but it's really more of a bridge novel with all that implies.At the end of "Of Gods and Fae" we knew that Robert Hoskin's children would most likely begin to manifest supernatural powers and he was torn over how he would break the news of their real heritage to them. So, of course, in a "Twist of Fae," their abilities appear before he can tell them about themselves.While I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first two, I think that it is an important part of the series and some of the criticism from other reviewers is undeserved. Keller is being very consistent.While not wanting to reveal too much of the story, Robert Hoskins doesn't seem so much to be minimized as he is yielding center stage so that we can get to know other characters who will play important roles going forward.The succession described in the book is consistent with the Dryad tradition going back to Demeter. Hoskins is merely restoring the "natural" order.The three-person point of view didn't develop the new characters as much as might have been desirable but what we learn is consistent with who the new characters are. Like Hoskins, they're cops and have seen more weird stuff, even discounting the supernatural elements, than most and have had to learn to deal with it. Nikki is a crime scene investigator. Consider what her job involves and you'll realize how her thinking works. She's definitely not a Delia or Diantha, but she has the potential to be a major player. Hopefully we'll see a bit more of the "off-duty" sides of Nikki and Jay in future stories.Speaking of Delia and Diantha, they were missed in this third book. Not so much for the spice they added to the action, but because they were motivators for Hoskins and without them, the strong character we have come to know and like is somewhat diminished.Having said all that, I did enjoy "A Twist of Fae" and would recommend it. Keller spins a good yarn and his editing does seem to be improving.Two very minor quibbles: First, I did miss Robert's Walther PPK. Spiffy magic swords are all well and good, but that little .32 ACP pistol has proven its worth several times. I would hate to see Hoskins go all Conan on us. Second, Nikki's use of the term "Daddio" was a bit weird. Brought back very old memories of beatniks, Edd "Kookie" Byrnes and "77 Sunset Strip." BTW: Tom, it's usually spelled "Daddy-O," "Daddy-o" or sometimes "Daddyo." Just take it from one who was there.

By Jay A reasonable novella, but giving it 2 stars because it has ended the series for me. I'm not a huge fan of multiple pov stories and with this story it seems the series will now be in that form. Also feels like the previous main character is going to be sidelined going forward. I don't understand why the author would do that given people have obviously been reading it for that character up till now. Sad end to a fun series.

I was excited to see how Robert's children adapted to there new lifes. If you enjoyed the first two books, you'll enjoy the third. A short but sweet experience. Can't wait for the 4th book.

It focuses on a young Connecticut woman, Miranda Wells, who sees a change in her station in life through a chance invitation by a wealthy distant cousin. Handsome, gallant, and a renaissance man in terms of his interests, Nicholas Van Ryn invites his young cousin to visit and stay at his lavish home in upstate Hudson, New York and act as a companion for his young daughter.When she meets him for the first time, Miranda is smitten, as Nicholas is the embodiment of all her romantic yearnings. Moreover, her stay at his luxurious, palatial home on the Hudson River, a mansion with the fanciful name of Dragonwyck, is an answer to her prayers and a chance to escape the hard work and tedium that has been her lot on her family's Connecticut farm. Dragonwyck, however, has its share of secrets and a miasma of evil that lurks in its halls and grand rooms.The only thorn in Miranda's side is her cousin's wife, Johanna, who does not care for having a younger, more attractive woman, bustling about the house and preening before her husband. A Generational Favorite By Amazon Customer This book enjoys a special place in my grandmother's bookshelves, and both she and my mom always told me when I was little that I should read it someday. So a few years ago, on an extended vacation to my grandparent's house (which, I have to say, can be nearly as creepy at night as Dragonwyck) I picked up the book and curled up in a corner with it. I absolutely couldldn't put it down. Miranda is an engaging character who you instantly identify with because I think everyone feels sometimes the sense of oppression of their mundane lives. It definitely fits in nicely with the Gothic romance of the time, though doesn't *quite* stand up to Hawthorne's THe House of the Seven Gables. However, Seton's language is wonderfully detailed and captures the beauties and terrors of the moments to a point where you are nearly breathless. I highly recommend finding yourself a copy, no matter how dog-eared, and immerse yourself in Dragonwyck.

By Linda McDonnell I searched for years for a copy of "Dragonwyck" and finally found an old copy in an East Hampton church sale. Why such a quest? Because I had seen the movie version with Gene Tierney and Vincent Price at least 10 times as a child. And the book is no disappointment--rather, it went beyond my wildest expectation! I've read it over quite a few times. The most appealing part for me is the early part of the novel, when Miranda is first in love with her handsome but remote cousin Nicholas, a married man whose daughter she is governess to. Seton captures the inexpressable longing of a crush that can never come to fruition. How every glance, every chance encounter takes on a significance to us alone. Then, the unthinkable happens, and Miranda gets her wish, marriage to Nicholas. But like most answered prayers, the reality bears no resemblance to the fantasy. In spite of riches and every kind of luxury, Miranda cannot find happiness in her marriage to Nicholas, a man incapable of spiritual and emotional intimacy. I highly recommend "Dragonwyck", for this wonderful plot and also its considerable research in the period, 1840s New York.

Now that I finished it.. I don't know... I feel like the story was rushed and certain things that seemed to be a big deal in the previous two books were left out of the third book. For example, I was left wondering about her ex and "what they both lost" (being cryptic so that I don't give out any spoilers). Landon never found out!! Basically, everything that had to with the ex (including their last meeting / conclusion) felt rushed and like it was just swept under the rug and had no weight on the story, really. I guess he only served as a segue to introduce Asher who I saw will get his own book soon, of course. At this point, I feel like it might be time to end this series and start a new one. There *is* such a things as too many characters/stories and it's getting hard to keep up and remember who is who. Also, I'm usually all for insta-love but their relationship/feelings felt, again, rushed and there wasn't enough character development to fall in love with the characters. "Eh" - that's the best word to describe this trilogy. I know the author can do so much better so I'm looking forward to future works.

I do think it lacked some of the depth I'm used to by Ms. Bladon, but I enjoyed the twists and turns. And the chemistry between Tess and Landon... whew, baby! While this book was not quite on par with earlier works, I love this series. I don't think you'll be disappointed with this latest installment. Highly recommend!

Now sometimes those are a pain in the butt, but not hers. She lets you know how many books there are in the series and she gives you a fairly accurate schedule. Her characters are wonderfully simple but in a good way and she allows the circumstances to make them extraordinary! Rise is no different. Boy meets girl, boy has a secret, girl finds out in a surprise reveal, will they overcome the secrets? Pretty sure, I've read ALL of Ms Bladons books. This one is no different! 20 out of 5 ⭐️s.

While she searches for the treasure, she learns all about Maggie and Tajan and their tragic love story. As she visits different places, she starts to have strange flashbacks.I love how this story unfolds... seeing how Rio learns about events in the past. This tale really drew me in. I really enjoyed seeing Maggie and Tajan story coming to life... how Rio ties into things.Next is Incredible Dreams... I was impressed! A Rare Treat for Astronomy Enthusiasts: Herschel Comes Alive By Ken Korczak Let me be the first to admit that a biography of Sir William Herschel published more than 130 years ago, and written by a pedantic intellectual is not going to have a wide appeal among a general audience today. But if you are like me, a lifetime amateur astronomy wonk, then this free Kindle ebook will be a delicious treat.The author, Edward Singleton Holden, was an American astronomer of some accomplishment. He served as director of Washburn Observatory in Madison, Wisconsin, and was also a professor of mathematics at the U.S. Naval Observatory. One of the things he is most famous for is announcing the discovery of a third Martian moon - which, alas, turned out not to exist.But Holden was an extremely prolific writer, and not just in the field of astronomy. His list of publications is impressive and amazingly broad in scope. He was clearly a significant scholar of his day. He was born in 1846 and died in 1914.In this short book, Holden all but gushes as he paints a portrait of Herschel that borders on worship - but this is hardly surprising since the majority of the documentation Holden draws from are the writings of Herschel's beloved and slavishly devoted sister, Caroline, who held her brother on a stellar pedestal of Olympian proportions.Still, Holden also supplies plenty of further documentation in the form of letters written by luminaries who knew Herschel, or who only met him just briefly, only to be flabbergasted by his uncanny charm, enormous charisma and truly authentic modesty despite his world-wide renown and stunning achievements.Herschel was German-born, but spent most of his adult life in England. It was his brilliant talent as a musician -- both as composer and performer-- that quickly elevated him into the highest tiers of English society. Herschel was also a master of languages. In his quest to constantly "see deeper into space than any other man," Herschel became the indisputably finest maker of reflecting telescopes in the world, which he built by hand. He ever strived to construct larger and larger instruments, culminating in his 40-inch-mirrored behemoth, which was the largest telescope on the planet for decades to come.Today, Sir William Herschel is best known as the discoverer of Uranus - the first time in the history that another planet beyond Saturn came to be known. To say that this was a monumental accomplishment is a vast understatement. Since the beginning of science in ancient times, it was almost an article of established religion that there were, and could only be, six planets. It was the Divine order! That there might be one more - well - it is difficult for us to imagine today the paradigm shattering implications it had on the world of the late 1700s.His accomplishments range far beyond the first man to discover a new planet, however. Herschel was more than an observer, but a formidable theoretician. His ideas on the distribution of stars and other objects, such as nebula and globular clusters, helped the scientific world envision a new model of the universe. His work with double stars and variable stars was ground-breaking.The main things I take away from Holden's treatment of Herschel, however, is something I never knew about the great man before - that Sir William Herschel was flat out one of the nicest, sweetest, charming, most charismatic and beloved scientists ever to live.

Although I'm not that fond of reading via the Kindle, I did find it to be an interesting book and a good companion read to the DISCOVERERS OF THE UNIVERSE by Michael Hoskin. It was well-researched and filled with many quotes by and about William Herschel -- and it gave me good, solid insights about what made this brilliant astronomer tick!

I was watching a Hollywood film covering the same time period and found it overly hyperbolic and depressing in its focus on people who were making horrid life choices, so I retreated to this book for a more realistic, appealing experience.

The intertwined stories of Eddie and Louisa and their children, Raleigh and Antonia, reveal the hidden currents within the most loveless and downward spiraling lives. Peery is a writer of great promise.

Having fled her Mexican hometown burdened by pregnancy from an ancient fertility ritual, Luisa finds employment as maid-of-all-work for petulant, wealthy Eddie Hatch, a transplanted Southern lady easily irritated by "lazy" Mexican help and her skittish, sexually uninterested husband. She and Luisa enter into an oddly intimate, if outwardly crusty relationship over the decades, during which Eddie gives birth to her only child, Raleigh (the result of a dalliance with a citrus grower) and Luisa raises her children, Gustavo and Antonia. Inevitably, Antonia and Raleigh fall in love and conceive a baby. In a typical preemptive attempt to resolve matters, self-righteous Eddie takes Antonia over the border into Mexico for an illicit abortion that never comes to pass but serves to poison Antonia's sentiments towards "Madama" Eddie forever. The story then barrels toward closure, in which Luisa and Antonia must learn to forgive Eddie's hurts and Eddie must acknowledge Luisa's importance in her old age. Peery spins an involving narrative, maintaining suspense about the central characters' relationships. At times, however, one wishes she had turned her observant eye more to the characters' inward reflections than on atmosphere; her powers of rich description invite readers to hope for the same level of intense contemplation applied to the characters' inner lives. When Eddie embarks on an affair and her pregnancy parallels Luisa's, the power of procreation links these women across generational, economic, and social divides. As the years pass, their respective life choices cause them to reevaluate their connection to love, legacy, and each other. 13 of 13 people found the following review helpful. Lyricism and Reality By A Customer The River Beyond the World is an amazing, amazing book. Peery is a lyrical writer, but there's a tough reality to what she writes. In my reading/interpretation, it ends up being a very moving novel about misunderstandings and miscommunications based on class, culture and age and how these differences shape the lives of women. The choices the central characters make alternately managed to choke me up with sadness, to make me seethe with rage and caused me to smile with admiration. Well worth the emotional upheaval and the time spent.

By A Customer In a writing workshop I attended, Janet Peery said that every story takes place in somebody's back yard, and we like it when it's not our back yard. The Tex-Mex border region is totally unknown to me. Ms. Peery skillfully evokes the flavor of the area with Spanish terms, weather and plant details, and Eddie's fractured Spanglish. BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN, COMPLEX NOVEL By lisamona@aol.com In THE RIVER BEYOND THE WORLD, Janet Peery illustrates an element of human compassion for her characters that is uplifting without being cloying, an element that illustrates the human condition in a way that we as readers can internalize as a tool for interpreting the world.The hallmarks of Peery's writing are the deceptively simple prose style she employs, and the wonderfully apt way she has of capturing dialogue and scene in brief splashes of narrative that illuminate the unspoken depths of the story.RIVER BEYOND THE WORLD is a beautifuly written, complex novel that is fully deserving of the acclaim it has received.Rebekah Mercer
