It's fun to escape with a fantasy of a hot, uber rich man. I was drawn to this book by the yummy cover. I couldn't wait to go away to a tropical island and watch a love story unfold.Zoe Davenport is a princess. She's been raised with wealth and privilege and to take over her fathers prestigious law firm. She's on top of the world. Or at least she should be. Zoe's life is rocked by scandal when her fiancé is caught cheating. Needing to get away from the media frenzy, she heads to an exclusive tropical resort. And straight into the arms of the one person who she has never forgotten, her teenage crush, next door neighbour bad boy, Ryder Nash.Ryder has dragged himself out of poverty and made billions. He has finally found some peace and solitude on a tropical island, running the resort he owns. His life is thrown off balance when the girl, the princess from next door, comes sauntering back into his life. But he can't have her. Her father paid him off when he was 18 to stay away from her, and made him sign a ridiculous contract that could ruin him.The contract. This thing was so over the top ridiculous. I had a hard time taking that part of the plot seriously. Basically if Ryder hooks up with Zoe, her father can take away his entire fortune. See? Ridiculous! The entire first half of the book was them bickering and Ryder trying to keep his hands off of Zoe. I had a hard time getting a real feel for their attraction. Ryder seemed almost angry that he wanted her and man, he was a crazy tease. His constant back and forth and heavy flirting got old fast. I kept thinking, sink or swim buddy but just do something! Poor Zoe is constantly struggling with whiplash from Ryder's indecisiveness. I wanted to love these two but I also wanted to knock some sense into them. Both of them were flighty and it honestly drove me nuts.I could have liked this book so much more if it just had more substance. A bit more girth to the plot. Everything happened quickly and the contract details just made it so unbelievable. I know you can't expect "real" all the time in fiction. But I had a hard time buying that a contract that stated if a guy hooks up with a girl that her daddy doesn't like, then he forfeits his entire empire. I couldn't swallow that. It was laughable actually.If you are looking for a quick, easy/fluffy, beach read, then this book may be for you. But I like to be able to buy into the plot a bit more in the books I read.

Plot just too "out there" for me By WeeBeaks Zoe and Ryder were neighbors during their teen years, but nothing more than distant students at the same school. Her house was larger, her family wealthier, while he lived in a small house with a drunken father, leading him to some reckless behavior and a bad boy reputation. Fast forward 10 years, and we see Zoe dumping a cheating fiance with a large scandal as that guy was big in politics. She is now a lawyer for her daddy's firm, on track to take over that firm when he heads off for his own political dreams hopefully. In other words, they are a very visible, prominent family. Ryder though is now the surprise, as he has made it in life, now owning his own island and opening a luxury resort, the place where Zoe ends up hiding from the press after her big breakup. It's a romance, so you can guess the main gist of the rest.The setup really isn't bad at all, and the blurb sounded interesting, old classmates meeting up years later in a second chance. However, despite that setup, this book did not work for me at all. First of all, these two people apparently didn't say more than 10 words to each in high school and had what appeared to be a mutual impression of longing yet dislike. In other words, there as absolutely zero getting to know each other back then let alone a relationship. Despite this, they both carry a torch of some kind, to the point where our hero has used her memory to inspire him and our heroine has apparently kept a flame going for him all this time. Again, despite never apparently even having a conversation back then. On top of that, we get to know the reason our hero never approached her back then and why he cannot now. That reason is completely absurd honestly, having to do with her father and threats. Once I then add in a bodyguard (him falling into that business alone is not believable) dabbling in real estate only to make it so big he is a billionaire by 28, I just admittedly did not enjoy this book at all because I could not buy into this at all. It was way too over the top in too many areas. Oh, and his bartender is a CEO, his pilot does extreme sports, there is a copilot who is actually a fighter pilot, etc., etc., etc. It's a romance so probably one or two things can be overlooked, but not all those things taken together for me.The writing? Not bad at all, though it felt a little chaotic and crazy at points with the hero jumping around in thoughts and initiative. I have read and really enjoyed other Sarah Ballance novels. I will definitely look into other novels of hers, either backlist or future novels. This particular book though really really was not to my taste.My thanks to the publisher via Netgalley for providing me a complimentary copy of this book to read and provide an honest review.

By RedsRomanceReviews Zoe Davenport is in desperate need of a little escape from her busy day to day life, and and cheating ex-fiance so when a friend books her a stay at a ultra private resort, she jumps at the chance to just getaway. Not realizing that the man that owns the resort is a man from her past, and he is looking forward to a second chance with her, and igniting the sparks they had long ago...Ryder Nash owns his own little piece of paradise, and enjoys leading a fairly private life at his little resort. His world gets turned upside down though when the girl he let getaway long ago books a little vacation at his resort. He is dying to see her again and see if the spark they once shared is still there, she on the other hand has no interest in sparking anything and just wants a little piece and quiet...This was my first experience with Ms. Ballance's writing and I must admit that it took me by surprise, I found myself completely addicted to the story after only reading a few sentences. The story line pulled me right in and had me burning the midnight oil just to finish it...and I have to say it was DEFINITELY worth the loss of sleep. These characters had me smiling the whole way through...and left me blushing on more than one occasion!! The banter between them was priceless!!Highly recommend you add this little literary treat to the top of your reading list, it is SO GOOD!!ARC requested through NetGalley, and kindly provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for a honest and unbiased review.
