By Haakon Well written, with more than a hint of Tolkien in the style, though a grittier version.As with his other works that I've read, it pulls you in, insists you keep reading into the wee hours of the morning, and leaves you craving more of the same when you finish.Absolutely worth the purchase price, and I am looking forward to the next installment!I'd happily settle for the second book of Sentient Dreams or Fox Crow, as well, though. lolCheers!

There are friendships forged and tested in combat.The story centers around Iam, a young fox kit who has aspirations of being a farmer. His parents vanished years ago, leaving him alone. He was taught simple magics by the mysterious Elder, helps his friend Maverus train for the post of Guardian, and loves Vika, his childhood sweetheart.Then trouble comes in the form of "Hollows" - demons encased in insect armor and bent on killing every fox in the town, the Fox Vale. Iam uses his magic to help stop the attack, but the situation isn't over. Evil is loose in the land.Maverus quests for the Glaive, a magical sword from "Those Before" and Iam hurries after him, realizing that even if the Fox Vale has won the battle, those who are seeking the magical Glaive are at risk.Things don't go as planned: it's Iam, not Mav, who is chosen by the sword. Iam is now the Guardian. Realizing this attack is not a single happening, he and Maverus set out to warn others. They are attacked by a band of outlaw Wolves and rescue a Wolfess destined for slavery.Finally they reach the Hound city.Then things get difficult...

Being a fan of the Radiation Angels series, I thought a foray into a more fantasy story might be interesting.I was not disappointed!The characters are exceptionally well written, so much so that even when some of the fringe characters fall on hard times you actually feel for them, rather than dismissing them as bit-players. The story moves along at a very nice pace and the lands the band of heroes cross are very well laid out as well as the other friends and enemies they meet along they way.I spent many a night "just getting in one more chapter" before sleep. Leading to a few bleary-eyed mornings at work.Well done! I cannot wait for the next installment!
