Psychic and paranormal PI Harper Hall isn't that surprised when her business partner skips town. Really, she can't help but feel that it's her own fault for trusting a guy named Romeo in the first place. But if Harper wants to consult for the police on a high-profile case, she'll need a new partner - preferably one with some supernatural skills of his own. Enter Noah Riddick, a slayer left jobless by the legalization of vampirism. Riddick's dark secrets and shady past have forced him into exile from human society - an exile he was completely comfortable with until gorgeous and exasperating Harper waltzed into his life.

Fighting vampires, making immortal enemies, engaging in semi-sadistic interrogation techniques, and staging daring rescues - it's all in a day's work for this paranormal odd couple. But falling in love? Well, that's a little trickier - even for the semi-charmed Harper Hall.

By Shirley U Jest This book started out great, with interesting world building, a kick ass heroine with a special ability and dangerous supernatural bad guys afoot. I was intrigued to see how the h would handle her intense touch-precognitive ability in the real world, when she historically had a difficult time with visions leading to seizures.Spoiler alert.....She doesn't. Or rather, the author doesn't. I forgot toward the end that she even had that ability and I think the author did, too. The whole story of a plucky girl with a great gift doing dangerous work to find and save people quickly devolved into the standard, girl gets kidnapped, prays the Hero will come save her, and he does because they're magically in love. For some reason. Oh right, because he's hot and brooding and she's gorgeous and headstrong, check. And save her he does from her silly girlish helplessness, at least three, possibly four times. But even if broody Hero wasn't available, there was equally hot alpha shifter cop who's also in love with the h and wants nothing more than to protect her, although why he was described as a shifter is inexplicable since he never, you know, shifted. Into anything. So here's what I think happened. Author had a standard romance story. Author sees that paranormal romances sell. Author adds a few paranormal references to her book like sprinkles on a cupcake, not realizing characters need to be consistent with their natures and abilities throughout the whole story. For instance, if the h gets crazy visions from touching things, show her consciously avoid touching things. Or wearing gloves. Or something. Because her history says she would be having visions almost constantly and be unable to function. Then tack on a couple of woefully short action scenes, a subplot romance that follows exactly in the footsteps of the main one (strong woman turned to quivering goo by handsome dominant man), and a totally gratuitous sex scene (yikes!) at the end, and there you have it, a completely formulaic romance.Too bad. The story had a lot if potential and would have potentially been really good if it focused less on the h's quivering thighs and burning loins and more on the interesting plot and character possibilities. And for once, can the h please just save herself?? Or even the H? Just for variety.

The book is from 2 POVs - Harper and Riddick.Harper is an interesting character. She's a gifted seer and is very good at it. She's also broke and well, trying to keep her PI business going despite her partner ditching her. I loved her character. She is spunky, loyal, snarky, full of life kind of girl. Harper has a huge, in-your-face kind of family and a mother who would do anything for her daughter. I actually laughed at some of the things that came out of Harper's mouth.Noah Riddick is a slayer and pretty badass at it. He is also a loner and struggling with his inner demons. Harper and Riddick end up working together on a case. They are a good team. They also fight their growing attraction to each other. I felt they were a good match for each other. This book ended without a cliffhanger and with a HEA. It was an enjoyable read.

Great Read By Lanie @ Lanies Book Thoughts Blog Harper happens to be a mouthy thirty year old gal trying to create a more stable life for herself after years of working for a secret government agency. Lucky for her, she's got valuable skills as an investigator and seer, unfortunately being female doesn't help her get jobs. This is where the tall, dark and delicious Riddick comes in. Riddicks an exslayer, but you cant really take the slayer out of this guy. It's in his blood. Together these two make a phenomenal couple and investigative team. Someone has to keep the monsters that go bump in the night inline.I enjoyed this story a lot, it was fresh and fun, pretty much just what I needed right now. While there were obvious serious elements to this book, a lot of it was more relaxed with a good dose of humor. Of course, there were also sparks of sexual tension teasing the reader as the story continues. What I really liked though was that the story stayed on track as the relationship developed between Harper and Riddick. I didn't feel like emotions or story were sacrificed in any way. This is a changing point of view story. For the majority of the story you get Harper and Riddicks POV, with Harpers best friends' thoughts thrown in there every once in awhile. I thought this was a great way to tell this story because it really showcased how Riddick really worked. Normally the tall, dark and handsome guys are rough and dominant, generally asses. Riddick didn't really fit this bill entirely, so his point of view really helped to get that point across.I'd recommend this story to other paranormal romance lovers, and those that love a strong female lead with a attitude.I received this book in exchange for an honest review via the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
