The Island on the Edge of Forever (The Epic of Aravinda Book 2), by Andrew M. Crusoe

Review "I really enjoyed this book and was impressed by its Miyazaki-level imaginative flair. The vivid way Crusoe painted the landscapes and inhabitants of the Island of Forever stuck with me... He interweaves just the right amount of spiritual levity and philosophy throughout, in a way that serves the plot rather than vice versa. I eagerly anticipate the next one." -- Tom Minderle, Author of 'Fringe Knowledge for Beginners'  "In today's vast sea of self-publishing, discovering this much intelligence, original thought, and imagination is a rare treat...I'm already impatient for the third book!" -- Flavia Westermann, Amazon Reviewer  "The author's prose is smooth and rhythmic...with layers of meaning and complexity for those who care to look." -- Michael Coorlim (Galvanic Century series author)  "It's not often that I treat myself to fiction books, but reading 'The Island on the Edge of Forever' was so exciting that I didn't want to put it down. The journey Crusoe takes us on is imaginative, bringing new worlds to life before my eyes...I can't wait to continue." -- Billy Horn, Amazon Reviewer  "I have almost 1,500 SciFi books on my Kindle...This one sticks out from the rest...It was an exciting read that left me wanting more." -- BookWormy, Amazon Reviewer  "If you want to take a fast trip through the galaxy to an enchanted island somewhere far away, this book is for you. This book has it all!" -- Lamar Renville, Amazon Reviewer

The vivid way Crusoe painted the landscapes and inhabitants of the Island of Forever stuck with me. Further, he interweaves just the right amount of spiritual levity and philosophy throughout, in a way that serves the plot rather than vice versa. The pacing was slower, deeper, and richer compared to the first book in the series, “The Truth Beyond the Sky.” Actually I found the pacing to be perfect. I was expecting a slow character-based sequel but it turned out to be action-packed and fascinating too. There are a couple twists that, despite some foreshadowing, weren’t given away while reading; that was a skillful touch. “The Island on the Edge of Forever” picks up where the first one leaves off and does not disappoint in where it takes the plot.  A truly worthy follow up. I eagerly anticipate the next one.

Top Notch Imaginative Adventure Seeking Universal Truths By Coqui Queen I was fortunate enough to receive an advanced review copy of this book, so this review will not reveal anything that would spoil the plot.My favorite thing about this series is the imaginative, detailed and descriptive way the author constructs the worlds. He is very good at describing scenery and characters that make me feel that I am right there in the world. As a biologist, I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of other-worldly animals in this book, which was extremely well done. I also appreciate the fact that this story is told mostly from the perspective of female character, which I feel is still uncommon in the science fiction literature. However, there were a few aspects of the book that didn't resonate with me as well as the previous points, but this could be due to my personal preferences, and in no way should lessen another's enjoyment of this story. For me, there were too many all knowing "objects" or beings who come into the story to tell the characters what they need to do next on their journey. For me, once or twice is acceptable, but many of the major developments of the plot were driven by these external forces acting on the main characters, rather than the main characters moving forward through internal discovery. There is a distinctly spiritual feel throughout the book, and some of the scientific technologies are not as well explained as I would like. But since I am a scientist, I may view this with more criticism than another book genre, so take this with a grain of salt.I think that this book would appeal to a broad audience, appropriate for both adults and children who are interested in science fiction and fantasy. Really, the main theme of this story is one of personal growth told on a backdrop of beautiful galactic scenery, with ethereal beings and hideous villains. I recommend it to anybody!

It carries with it the same deep spiritual core that his first conveyed, without becoming preachy or evangelical. He simply portrays his universe as it is, one with life beyond the material, one with layers of meaning and complexity for those who care to look. It's not easy to go into concrete detail of the book without giving away any spoilers, so I'll focus instead on the experience of reading it.One of Crusoe's strongest talents is his worldbuilding, not only in the setting itself, but in the way he portions it out in dribs and drabs to the reader. Never does he outright just tell you any facts about his Aravinda Galaxy, but instead he provides the reader with the clues and details needed to create your own internal virtual copy assembled from the parts he provides you with.I'll be honest: I don't have a lot of time to invest reading these days, but The Island on the Edge of Forever's pages pass effortlessly. The author's prose is smooth and rhythmic. I was drawn into the fictive dream well enough that I didn't have all the tasks I need to complete nagging at me in the back of my mind, and I could simply immerse myself in story. If you're looking for deep science fiction that deviates from standard tropes and stereotypes, give The Island on the Edge of Forever a read. Supporting stories like this encourages authors like this, and more variety is always a good thing.
