Ford Editors Deborah Whetzel and George Wheaton assembled these chapters to update their 1997 book, Applied Measurement Methods in Industrial Psychology. The first book was praised for combining research on the validity of assessment methods with practical guidance on how to implement them. Here they take the same approach. The chapters revisit topics from the previous book, adding new chapters covering training and experience measures, assessment centers, and increasing the legal defensibility of assessments. The chapters are written by practicing industrial-organizational psychologists recognized by their colleagues and clients as experienced in developing assessments. Their writing is well-organized and direct. The material as written is accessible to human resources practitioners. Whether or not they *choose* to access it is another matter, not to be blamed on the editors or authors whose work appears in this book. There is a long history of HR resistance to research-based knowledge and best practices designed to increase predictive validity of assessments rather than just the speed at which they can be administered. Whetzel and Wheaton's compilation is a good resource for those who overcome this resistance and work to develop better assessments in organizational settings.

The book has some good information but is written too scientifically and I had to force myself to read it. I was some what put off with it as a student, I know an HR professional will never read it...I say this because I shared it with an HR professional and she agreed. The book just too scientific.
