From USA Today Bestselling Author M. Robinson It was complicated, it was also just the beginning. A decision. A simple choice. There is always that one moment in life where things could have been different. That one moment where you could have chosen a path that would lead you down a certain road. A different life. It was easier to pretend that we were still best friends, and that she was my girl and I was her boy. Pretending was better than knowing the truth... I. Ruined. Us. I had her. I lost her. I love her. All I did was complicate us. STANDALONE series. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Strong language and sexual content, not intended for readers under 18. Full length novel.

By ReadingismyEscape First let me say that I read "Forbid Me" before I read this book. I liked Forbid Me and we got to see a glimpse into Lucas and Alex's lives. I read the reviews and was on the fence but I figured that I liked Forbid Me and I got to see that Lucas and Alex got their HEA so I figured it would be an ok story...esp knowing they got an HEA. Well, sadly to say I was wrong. I think I loathed this book.**SPOILERS**My biggest problem was the fact that there were detailed sex scenes between the H and multiple other women. Seriously...I don't need to read about him IN DETAIL about being with someone besides the heroine. It was disgusting and I wish someone would have mentioned it in their reviews as I would have avoided the book all together. My second biggest problem was Lucas. I didn't see him as any kind of Hero and I especially didn't see any real love from him to Alex. He claimed to love her but repeatedly hooked up with other women. Then when another male -who wasn't a part of the group - entered Alex's life he did everything he could to hurt her even more. It was clear how Alex felt for him but he couldn't keep it in his pants and commit to her...why? Oh b/c he loved her..yep, thats right...he loved her so he couldn't be with her. Makes complete sense!! Plus, not only did Alex have to witness him being with other women he had a child with one of them! Planned or not it was a huge slap in the face to Alex. Ultimately, the Good Ol' Boys were right...Lucas wasn't good enough for Alex.I think Alex could have been a good character if she was stronger. Yes, she kinda moved on with her life after reaching her breaking point but she all to easily let him back into her life. For goodness sakes, she ends one engagement and end up in another one in just a few months time. Plus she just over looks all the pain he caused and she has to be reminded of it everyday when she looks at the son he fathered with another woman.Ultimately, this book left me with a sick feeling in my stomach. I wish poetic justice would have been served and Alex would have ended up with Cole - however, after reviewing some of this authors other books she doesn't seem to place any sanctity on marriage (other books are blatantly about cheating husbands/wives) more than likely Alex and Lucas would have had an affair. I probably would have hated the characters more if that happened.

The emotions M. caused me were intense! I went in blind, as usual. Since I have read all of her other books I had a feeling this was going to be an emotional journey. Never did I expect as many feelings though, never! It was over the top for me. Right from the start. I hate to use the word depressing, but seriously sometimes I had to just put the book down and breath thinking I may not make it through! It was an experience that even after a night's sleep and hours to think about it I am still reeling! I would say this is a must read for all you angst fans!

It's hard to imagine all the emotions and issues that kept two soul mates apart for so long, agonizing really. Yet, it was still an amazing, precious story. A couple of scenarios were a little farfetched but they worked anyway....because you just wanted it for them so much. Can't wait for Jacob's story. Hope it doesn't take so long that I lose my eagerness. Also, I hope we get more of Alex and lucas's happy ever after during the upcoming books.
