Following on from the first Protection Inc. book, this story features Lucas. He is a Dragon shifter who works for Hal in his security company and was very mysterious in the first book. It turns out, he's royalty from a small European country and pledged to return to an arranged marriage if he hasn't found his mate within 5 years. Now his time is up. Great characters, exciting story line and evil villains - a must read stand-alone book can't wait for the next book

Both are very good, but this one is just a little better because of the introductions made in Bodyguard Bear. I'm also enjoying the small hints in each of the fairy tales they mimic. I recommend them both and will be watching for the next book in the series.Lucas is a relatively new addition to the Protection, Inc lineup, one with a big secret. He is bound by an arranged marriage contract that has given each party five years to find their true mate. His time is up. Forced to return to Brandusa, a kingdom ruled by dragons, he learns the engagement ball is happening the next night. At midnight he will go through the ceremony, and as Crown Prince, his destiny will forever change. Raluca is just as unhappy with their fate, but is resigned to make the best of it as her duty to her people. Their uncles have trained them well in the traditional ways and they allow no arguments against the pairing, or the new treaty that comes with it.Journey Jacobson is an American back packer turned au pair whose charge is turning eighteen, ending the family's need for her. Her last duty before returning home is to chaperone the girl at the Prince's engagement ball. She has no idea that the rumors about royal dragons are true or that dragons recognize their mates when they look into their eyes. She feels an immediate attraction when Lucas' scan of the crowd lands and locks on her. Another home run! Zoe Chant continues the thrilling fast-paced adventure with Defender Dragon, the second release in her brand new Protector, Inc Series and I'm still impressed! I'm now officially a fan! Although each release is a standalone novella featuring a different member of the Protector, Inc team, I would highly recommend at least reading the first book, Bodyguard Bear, since it introduces the large cast comprising the Protector, Inc employees and sets up the premise for the entire series. If you love the series half as much as I do, you'll be a fan for life! The story is exciting, thrilling, fast-paced, suspenseful, sweet, romantic and easy to follow. The narrative is exceptionally well written in the third person with alternating his and her points of view. My favorite! The dialogue is smart, entertaining, well executed and flows seamlessly. I'm also very impressed with the presentation of Chant's books. They are extremely well edited, the formatting is excellent and the covers are always beautiful. But, it's the characters that take center stage in this series. They are captivating, intriguing, engaging and endearing. They grab your attention, capture your heart and hold you prisoner from beginning to end. The heroes are all handsome, charismatic males with kind hearts carefully concealed under their strong, gruff exteriors. The heroines are beautiful, intelligent women who possess remarkable strength, courage and kindness. No wilting violets among these women! I love it! Chant skillfully combines these elements to craft a delightfully entertaining paranormal tale filled to the brim with heart-pounding danger, spellbinding drama, heart-stopping adventure, spine-tingling suspense, heartbreaking angst and sweet seductive romance. What didn't I love about this book? Not a darn thing!Handsome dragon shifter Lucas 'Blank' is in a bit of a pickle.
