So much to praise, so much to disparage.Full marks for an interesting and quick moving tale. I liked the protagonist and several minor characters. I liked the ending. Very much. More insight into the Hutch character would have been nice.On the other hand, formatting, grammatical and vocabulary errors are sprinkled throughout. I found them very distracting and in some places even comical. "Ovular" is not a shape, it relates to ovaries. One does not "tenure" one's resignation, but "tenders" it. There were times I had to pause and reflect on a passage or sentence to figure out the meaning. It does a disservice to an otherwise entertaining story. Pronouns were an issue, but to be fair, he has mastered the pluperfect construction which trips up many authors.Lastly, I suppose it's not critical to a thriller, but the Russian scenes took an awful lot of artistic license! A little more research would have improved them. A fair number of people HAVE traveled in Russia.Mr. Stevens, you have a lot of talent that deserves a competent editor.

11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Good action adventure with some nice twists By bass player 61 Hawk is a former DEA agent now biding his time as a guide at Yellowstone, when a mysterious woman shows up offering to pay handsomely for his services. Although suspicious of her true intentions, he agrees, and soon finds himself in the middle of a mess that he thought he had left behind years ago. As he's reluctantly drawn back into his former life, many of his old adversaries haven't forgotten him, and are still looking for revenge and closure. Great story with a lot of action and intrigue. The book starts out a little awkward, jumping around from place to place, with no real depth given to many of the characters at first, but as the story develops so do the characters. The last quarter of the book is a whirlwind, with intense scenes and situations, and also some really neat twists. This is the second book I've read by this author, and although his writing style is certainly not the most polished I've ever read, overall I like what he does here and I'll certainly be checking out more of his offerings in the near future.

I believe only a couple made me look back to make sure I hadn't misunderstood. This novel kept me up far too late on the edge of my seat, not knowing what to expect. I loved it. Solid, well developed characters made me feel an investment in them. Fabulous twists and turns that kept me intrigued but did not did not distract from the plot; they only gave it more depth. Total surprise ending even though one thinks all loose ends have been resolved, only to be shocked by a fabulous crescendo. My first by this author but certainly not the last. Splendidly done, Mr Stevens.
