Returning home from her weekly visit with her incarcerated stepdaughter, Tess Lordes pulls over the family car on the mountain highway ten miles outside of her small town of Falcon’s Way, California. It is a brief, unscheduled stop that saves their lives. Cars lose control and crash around Tess and her two children just before a blinding light envelopes the entire sky. No sound of an explosion. No blast waves. In an eerie silence the western sky is transformed into an inferno. The unexplained phenomenon extinguishes all power and disables communication. Although unscathed, it doesn’t take long for things to fall apart in Falcon’s Way. Law and order in the quaint town quickly evolve into chaos and violence. Without phones, radio or television, no one knows what has happened. Soon enough, those in Falcon’s Way learn the fiery event is only the first of many devastating and heartbreaking occurrences that sweep through their town. Tess’ number one priority is to keep her family alive and safe. To her, staying in Falcon’s Way is the means to do so. But is it? Being in the dark breeds so many questions. Was the event isolated or global? And are Tess and the others better off standing their ground or is time truly running out? Not just for Falcon’s Way but for mankind.

First and foremost, I wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed this story. The heartbreak Tess experienced in losing both Jeff and her baby, and the goodbyes shared as she made the girls leave when they thought they were losing Tag, were real and gut wrenching. I was caught by my husband and son crying! It has been awhile since I got so emotionally attached to story characters like at. Bravo! Your descriptions of the bright light & fireball, heat, the illnesses, and even the tiresome walk to Tess's when she had to carry Tag and two backpacks were descriptive enough to help the reader easily visualize the discomfort, fear, displeasure, etc of all the sights, sounds, odors, and other experiences. Whether the information on EMP, nuke blasts, etc. was factually sound or not was neither here nor there and did not detract from the story. It was interesting enough, and believable enough (especially because your characters were not claiming to be experts) that for once I was not compelled to stop reading to research. How refreshing, to just enjoy a story! That being said, and I mean no disrespect, I really have to express what a disappointment it was to be so distracted by the plethora of misused and misplaced commas throughout the book. There were also tons of run on sentences, as well as incomplete sentences. I don't recall which book of yours it was that I left a review on before, but I suggested before to hire a different editor. I stick by that advice, as you truly have a gift with "story telling" and I hate that the quality is diminished because of low quality editing or publishing.Respectfully yours, and truly a fan, despite the unfavorable parts of my feedback,

So, so, so many commas. Commas all over the place, even when there was no rhyme or reason for them! Story was great and if the book gets edited I would give it 4 stars easy. Story was touching and sad but hopeful as well. I really liked that the main character retained her morality. The act of selfishness is so often justified in these types of stories because "protecting you and yours" comes before all. Instead Ms. Druga gives gives us a person who knows that giving when it hurts is true charity. Hope we see more of this family!

By MadPB I wanted to like this but the writing style with weird commas and odd sentence structure became so distracting in the first few chapters, I knew I wouldn't be able to finish. The story itself is a good premise, but right away it seemed flawed in the technical details of how an EMP works.
