Ayda Hanagan’s life took a whole new road to hell when she agreed to lay down beside Babylon’s very own devil in disguise, Drew Tucker. With an evolving love and the world she once knew now gone forever, Ayda’s toes were no longer dancing on the edge of the flames. She’d jumped straight into the fire, dragging her younger brother, Tate, along for the ride. No matter which way they both turned, Harleys and leather were their new reality, and they had to get used to the fact that acts of war and bad blood were never far away. All that seemed so easy for Ayda to push aside when she was resting in the arms of the man she never expected to love, but when lust, need and sex became as important to her as the air she breathed, it was only going to be a matter of time before reality decided to slap her around the face harder than ever before. Lost in the screwed-up perfection of their new fairytale, Drew and Ayda thought they could handle anything life threw at them. For every cop, whore or enemy that tried to tear them apart, they found strength in each other and a new weapon to fight back with. Only not all assassins wore their patches on their chest, and before they could even see the eyes of the wolves in the shadows waiting to bring them to their knees, they were all out of places to run. With everything they'd ever believed in suddenly at risk, fear was no longer an option and Drew and Ayda soon found themselves in the middle of a war that looked impossible to get out of alive. In order to survive, they had to learn how to fight together. Without restriction. Without thought. Without mercy. Even if that meant sacrificing everything they’d worked for, including each other.

Without Mercy (Babylon Book 2), by Victoria L. James, L.J. Stock

About the Author L.J. Stock on Victoria L. James ~ What can I say about Victoria L. James? Loads actually, she’s an amazingly talented author and I had the absolute distinct pleasure of writing with her. I also call her a friend. When we first met, we bonded instantly over our love of music, Victoria tends to be as eclectic as I am with her tastes. She finds stories in lyrics and feels the moods in the melodies. When we first started writing together, I’ll admit I was intimidated. Here is this woman with a huge passion for putting words onto paper and painting pictures so clearly that you are completely immersed in them. How was I going to keep up with that? I’m not sure I ever did, but over time we’ve built up a repertoire. We bounce off one another and bring our characters to the forefront and hope that the interactions are as real as they appear for us. On a more personal note, Victoria is bright, smart, kind, intelligent, funny, caring and witty. She can see so much in the world around her and always has time for anyone. Victoria lives in sunny ole Yorkshire with her family and her cats - had to mention them - and can normally be found in the playground of her imagination, listening to the Foo Fighters. ~~~~~~~ Victoria L. James on L.J. Stock ~ There aren’t many people you bump into in life that you want to both work and spend your free time with. From meeting L.J. through the wonder that is the internet, we soon came to realise that we had a hell of a lot in common. Music was where our friendship truly began, but our writing partnership flourished not too far behind. I always felt like my writing was missing something, and it was only when I read L.J.’s work that I realised what exactly that was. It was missing her influence! After spending over a year working together, day in, day out, not a moment goes by where I don’t thank the Twitter Gods for bringing this amazingly strong and talented woman into my life. She’s an inspiration, a positive force in every situation and one hell of a talented writer. To say I’m honoured that she wanted to create a new world with me is a gross understatement. I’m blown away. One day, I hope I get lucky enough to visit her in Texas, where she lives with her family and her zoo of animals, so we can write by her pool and take part in our other dream… The great Taylor Kitsch Road (stalking) Trip. Who needs a yacht in the Caribbean when we have that to look forward to, right?

MUST READ By T London I finished Without Mercy and honestly, I had to sit for a while to sort out the many emotions that this story brought me. Words literally have escaped me when I think about how to write this review. I find it astonishing that this was coauthored because I could never, in a million years, be able to pinpoint who wrote what scene or chapter. Victoria L. James and L.J. Stock have such similar writing styles yet they each bring something that could only be described as magical to this story. Not only is the writing style impressive, they have a talent of drawing out a huge range of emotions from their readers. I rarely am brought to tears while reading, it happens but not very often. In Without Mercy, the authors had me falling apart for different reasons on three occasions. I was so wrecked during those times I had to put the kindle down and walk away so I could gather myself. I won’t say what those scenes were, or give any hint as to what occurred because you must experience this book on your own but I found I had gained some valuable lessons from Drew, Ayda and yes even Tate’s journey.Ayda was still adjusting to her new life at the hut with the MC gang. They had accepted her into the fold, well the whores who were hanging around didn’t like her but the men respected her not only as Drew’s woman but as Ayda herself. Kenny had taken Tate under his wing and the feeling of being an inexperienced single mom to her younger brother was less of a burden than it had been before. With not having to worry about paying the bills and keep a roof over their heads, she was now free to keep the hut going, laundry clean and food in the men’s belly’s while she found new ways to try and draw Drew out of his shell. With all of that going the number one thing she had left to figure out was, is living her dream with Drew really fair to Tate? Her younger brother was getting sucked farther and farther into the MC mentality and forgetting his dreams of college and high school football. She had sacrificed so much of her life after her parents died to provide and raise Tate, she isn’t sure if she can sacrifice Drew and the gang in order to keep Tate on the right path.Drew was still leading the charge for revenge of those who were responsible for Pete’s death. He knew he had done things that would make a normal person sick and haunted with nightmares forever, but to him this was life, his life. With new threats emerging in town, a dysfunctional relationship with the head of police that could prohibit him from protecting what needs to be protected, he is also faced with the balance of how much does he let Ayda in on club business. If he isn’t careful he is going to wake up alone one morning and realize his need to protect her is actually what pushed her out the door.It was a stunning turn of events that made all of the pieces fall in place for Drew and Ayda, leading them to find that lost link that had been there all the time, yet hidden due to their own stubbornness. I won’t give any hints, but trust me when I say, those few chapters left me in excruciating heartbreak as I watched them and had no clue how this would end. You read romance books and they use the word love, but these two authors showed you what love is all about. That realistic kind of love that comes from so deep in your heart you don’t even recognize yourself any more. They also showed us about trust and the fine balance that it takes to maintain it. Acceptance was another message that I gained from this book. Love and loss is a promise in life, acceptance of that is something you must work to obtain. They both had to have their own form of acceptance to the new world they have created and how they acquired that was beyond anything I could have imagined. In conclusion, I think the most heartbreaking part for me was the last page, as their story had come to an end in this chapter of life. Knowing they will move on and we possibly won’t be there to watch, yes this is a pathetic plea to the authors to not bring this series to an end, was like saying goodbye to a loved one and knowing you might not see them again. I not only fell in love with Drew and Ayda and the rest of the gang, they became part of my heart that I will carry for a very long time.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Without Mercy (Babylon Book 2) by Victoria L. James and L.J. Stock By Kay --- I love you. Pull the trigger, darlin’. ---"Without Mercy" is a nonstop adrenaline ride of anticipation, emotion, and action that will enrapture you from beginning to end and in the aftermath, leave you happily out of sorts. This second book in the Babylon Series resumes the journeys began in "Without Consequence" (Babylon Book 1) and reacquaints you with the cast of characters that stole your heart upon introduction. The writing team of Victoria L. James and L. J. Stock once again proves that their match is kismet, as these authors bring us yet another story that is well-written, fantastically told, and patently incapable of not engaging the reader. "Without Mercy" will give you as much as you're willing to take from it, and whether purely entertaining or life-affirming (and everything in between), you will not regret having read this book or fall short of reasons to love it.Thus far, the Babylon Series is a dramatic romance entangled in MC elements and self discovery journeys. If you have not read "Without Consequence" then I suggest that you do, not only because it's one heck of a book but also because "Without Mercy" picks up where it left off.If you don't want a summary of Babylon Book 1, skip ahead beyond the asterisks. If you do want the summary, here it is:"Without Consequence" brought us Ayda Hanagan, a young woman who is strained in her responsibility as sole guardian to her teenage brother, Tate, and who is consumed by a desperate determination--to make ends meet, to breathe, to keep herself and Tate safe, and to protect her heart; Drew Tucker, the former president of the Hounds Motorcycle Club, returning home after serving a nearly five year prison term and struggling with his past sins and new reality; the Hounds of Babylon, a MC whose history in the small town of Babylon, Texas is as rich as its reputation is fearsome; and a bevy of entertaining characters involved in Ayda and Drew's lives. Ayda and Drew meet unexpectedly and immediately form a volatile relationship that evolves into a complicated and passionate romance. Much of the book explores the development of their relationship as well as their individual internal and external battles, while the goings on of the MC play in the background with an unmistakable threat of impending peril. Because this series is in large part a romance, I don't feel it is a spoiler to tell you that Ayda and Drew end up together in "Without Consequence." But just as their love story starts, so does the MC action, bringing with it a host of issues for this young couple and the people in their lives. "Without Consequence" ends with the declaration of a MC war that proves necessary but is nevertheless frightening for a MC that is trying to find its feet again and a troubled hero who has just found his reason to live in his greatest weakness.************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************--- ...I began to tremble with the emotions that had no outlet... If I looked at a cut, I was going to lose my [sh*t]. I was drowning in testosterone, and it was making me crazy. ---In "Without Mercy," Ayda is acclimating to her new circumstances, but life in The Hut brings fresh challenges for her and Tate. I love how Ayda's life isn't miraculously made wonderful by her involvement with Drew. Yes, her financial burden has been lifted but that's where the miracle ends. Despite being certain about her feelings for Drew, she grapples with how the fulfillment of her desires affects Tate and whether or not she is making the best choices. Her dilemma is entirely understandable. After being forced into a stagnant existence focused on caring for Tate and trying to minimize the effects of their loss on his life, she's found a love that has reawakened her spirit but is also exceedingly complicated. Being with Drew gives her affirmations of life and love that she was (presumably) on the cusp of realizing through age and tenacity but missed out on with no certainty of future recovery when she assumed guardianship of Tate. It's as if Drew is her reward for her unfailing selflessness. A complex reward with many returns and not all of them pleasant. Her worries aside, Ayda is as spunky as ever, maybe more so now that she is not cowed by fear of rising debt to Mr. Gloom and Doom. Without the stresses of financial burden and loneliness or the shadow of hopelessness trailing her, her personality is even more pronounced. She is nurturing, loving, and compassionate. And while she is neither dramatic nor temperamental, she does not submit without cause or desire. I love how the authors balance her independence and self-identity with the softness and compromise that are inevitable in a relationship. You always get the feeling that she can stand on her own, survive anything, but there is no doubt that Drew Tucker is her kryptonite. In this story, you will see just how ferocious Ayda is in her own right and in her love for Drew. As much as I love a good hero, I am an absolute sucker for a strong heroine, and in "Without Mercy" Ayda manages to burrow even deeper into my heart than she'd previously settled.--- This was the problem with the new me, the one who had crawled his way out of prison with old scars on his back and new ideals in his mind. Nothing ever felt in sync. It was always a case of heart versus mind... Each day there was a new victor. I just never knew which one would come out on top from one moment to the next. ---Drew Tucker...the rough, tormented hero with an incredible capacity for love and an indelible sense of responsibility that are in direct conflict with his tendency towards destruction. The thought of Drew Tucker still manages to render me temporarily speechless (and a tad violent) because this man is so many things and so many of them profoundly contradictory yet entirely understandable. It's a testament to the authors for creating such a multi-faceted character that challenges the traditional virtue of the romantic hero without making him inherently despicable. With his newly reclaimed crown sitting firmly atop his head, Drew is a man on a dangerous mission that threatens the very things that he aims to keep safe. He is hell-bent on protecting what's his, and this need entwines with his desire for revenge to combustible heights and explosive results. Drew is still brooding and wrapped up in the guilt and uncertainty of who he is, has been, and should be. But in "Without Mercy" we see him experience times of levity and freedom. And, I have to say, those moments are absolutely beautiful to witness because the authors' portrayal of Drew is so brilliantly evocative that his experiences are uncontrollably affecting. I love that Drew's plight was not abandoned in this sequel. He is not over Pete's death, though he makes strides in his attempt to deal with it. The effects of his prison sentence are numerous, not only from being locked up amongst people who would sooner see him dead than take his next breath but also from the events that led to his imprisonment and the lingering feelings and sensitivities in the aftermath of his release. His desire to be a better man is often thwarted, but he's definitely more cognizant of how his actions affect others.--- Whether it was love, hope or the simplicity of wishful thinking, my body had fallen under his spell. Every brush of his lips and fingers had me sinking deeper into the security net he had fabricated for me. ---Although Drew and Ayda enrich each others' lives and provide support and comfort that were sorely needed, this (to me) is not a story where the heroine heals the damaged hero simply by entering his life rather than through any discernible process. The two are still very much works in progress, and I feel like this is a story where the romance is an aid in their respective journeys of self discovery. Drew was the catalyst that freed Ayda from the shackles of the narrow life she'd been imprisoned by since she assumed guardianship of Tate. Ayda's presence helps center Drew by giving him something to focus on, something that brings him joy and pleasure and allows him to see the bigger picture that he tends to miss when he gets tunnel vision driven by anger and frustration and the need for vengeance. Still, if you like your heroes stormy, fear not, because despite Ayda's ability to calm the storm that is Drew Tucker, she does not attempt to change him and, furthermore, it's evident that he will always have a measure of darkness because that is who he is, if not by nature like he thinks then certainly by the nature of his chosen lifestyle. In "Without Mercy," Ayda and Drew's relationship continues on a wobbly course paved more with darkness and thunder than sunshine and rainbows, but there is no doubt that they are destined to be together. Some of the most spellbinding displays of this fact occur during scenes of utter chaos and brutality, when it's as if a bubble forms around the couple and insulates them in this quiet space where the very air seems made up of the bonds that connect them. Hypnotizing. Agonizing. Touching. Electric. Whether in the midst of a heated argument, a playful exchange, passionate lovemaking, or hell on earth, Drew and Ayda's connection is magical and exquisitely portrayed. In addition to main characters who are excellently developed and perfectly continued from the first book, "Without Mercy" features secondary characters who are, across the board, so interesting that you can't help but want more of them. You want to know what their lives were like before being introduced, and you want their take on the nonstop upheavals that have ensued since Drew Tucker's return. The authors could write entire stories about these secondary characters only to tell me that their lives are no more complicated than what has already been revealed, and I would still want to read these stories because, like everything else it seems, Victoria L. James and L.J. Stock have a gift for creating dynamic, memorable characters that tease you from the pages and make you want to know them--even in cases of horrible villains, who you want to be around simply so you can unleash on them a blazing inferno of merciless pain born of the pulsating rage that practically suffocated you while you read.--- I wanted to rip my chest open and squeeze it tight, to end my own life right there and then because this kind of pain was already threatening to choke me to death. ---"Without Mercy" is gripping--packed with tense moments of highly charged emotion and stark terror. This story is an amplified continuation of "Without Consequence," with a shift in setting from (partially) Rusty's to (predominantly) The Hut. We learn more about the Hounds' history. We learn more about Pete and the Emps' role in his death. We are introduced to new Hounds and given glimpses into the personalities and lives of our favorite key members--Deeks, Kenny, Slater, Jedd, and Harry. There is more sex this time around, all of it more scorching but no less poignant. We see Tate begin to mature and question his once carefully planned (if not entirely certain) future. We see relationships evolve and loyalties within the Hounds MC tested. Existing hatred is intensified and shocking alliances are revealed. Tears are shed aplenty. When you enter Babylon, you will be forced to check your morals and beliefs at the door, and then recheck them throughout, because in "Without Mercy" it becomes clear just what lengths the MC will go to to protect their own. The Hounds are calculated and unyielding in their actions, and there are times when they seem like the bad guys. Their war with the Emps erupts in violence and bloodshed without mercy that will paralyze you with skin prickling fear. The pacing in this book is phenomenal, effected to keep you on the edge of your seat in rapt attention (or curled in the fetal position). The writing is terrific, characterized by words that paint vivid mental images and an infusion of subtle nuances to characters and events that make the story even more impactful. The wonder of "Without Mercy" has been a bit of a surprise to me ("Without Consequence," too, actually). Being familiar with the authors' work assured me that I would like this story, but it's still baffling how deeply it has dug its hooks into me. I know what I like and I read what I like, so it's not often that I can't pinpoint exactly what made a book an extraordinary read for me. Sure, Victoria L. James and L. J. Stock have an immense gift for writing and storytelling that draws the reader into whatever web they weave. Sure, the depth of feeling that you develop for their characters is borderline irrational. But I was certain that there was some aspect of "Without Mercy" that tipped it from loveable to utterly awe-inspiring. What I've come to realize, though, is that that something cannot be described. It's simply the indefinable "it" factor that makes you connect to a work of art. And all of the aforementioned elements--the amazing writing and storytelling and characters--combine in a way that works splendidly for me. It's humbling what James and Stock can do with their writing, and it boggles the mind to imagine them growing and evolving in their craft."Without Mercy" closes with enough resolution to satisfy (no cliffhangers). Still, with the authors meticulously and thoughtfully building everything--the romance, the characters, the action, the MC--piece by piece, the Babylon Series (thankfully) feels like one with no end in sight. Unfortunately, there is no indication of how many books will make up this series, or, sadly, whether or not there will even be a third book. But I hope that we do get more because there is certainly a lot of romance, self-discovery, and MC action left to be found in Babylon, Texas, and gosh do I want to experience it.

This is a continuance so Without Consequences must be ready first but trust me will love it just as I do. It's a biker book so I'm all there. It's a raw, dirty and gritty tale that had me at the edge of my seat more so in this one than the last. That's to be expected since this one is about the war with the Emperors. Drew and Ayda are still an stubborn yet awesome couple. They compliment each other well. They both have their fears in this relationship because it sure was hell not an easy ride for them but it turned out the way that it was supposed to. I enjoyed the secondary characters too and wonder what's going to come next. There are some potential stories about them that I would love to read so we will have to see!!Love this duo!!Story 5Sex 5Overall 5Reviewed by Shay from Mommys a Book Whore

Excerpt:The first edition of Deam's "Trees of Indiana" was published in 1911. By limiting the distribution, the edition of 10,000 lasted about three years. The demand for a book of this kind was so great that a second edition of 1,000 copies was published in March 1919. This edition was exhausted within five days after its publication was announced, and thousands of requests for it could not be filled. These came from all classes of people, but the greatest demand was from the school teachers of the State.Since forestry is an integral part of agriculture which is now taught in our public schools, and since a book on the trees of the State is in demand, the Conservation Commission has authorized a revised edition of "The Trees of Indiana." What was formerly Bulletin No. 3 of the Division of Forestry is now published as Publication No. 13 of the Department. The reader's attention is called to a new departure in illustrations, which were made from photographic reproductions of specimens in Mr. Deam's herbarium. The photographs were taken by Mr. Harry F. Dietz of the Division of Entomology. It is believed that it will be gratefully received by the public and will stimulate an interest in forestry that should achieve practical results.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Old but still valuable By W. F. Borman I was surprised to see that the book is a reproduction (not a reprint) of a public domain document published before 1923. It is a report by the Indiana Forestry Service in 1911 on an inventory, with some added later comments, of trees growing in Indiana at that time. Although the inventory is out of date, the drawings, especially of the leaves, are clear and helpful to confirm the identity of a tree. There is no guide to finding the identity of a newly found tree.

While it's not a travel book per se, it gave a context that made my travels richer and more rewarding. It took me back to a past that is almost unimaginable when you see these cities today, but when you do visit after reading this book, you can see tantalising traces of a very different world that still peeks through amongst the bustle of modern life. It's a perfect pre-travel guide.

The Satanist is the story of Hyder, an anthropologist living in Lagos, Nigeria with his wife Maryam. While Maryam, a young Pakistani woman who is trying to acclimatize herself with the earthy habitat of Nigeria is faced with domestic challenges bigger than Diaspora - physical abuse, misogyny and a disloyal spouse. Hyder, a disillusioned man cannot find psychological satisfaction anywhere but in Vikki, a younger lover and a Satanist. Through course of their relationship, Hyder struggles with the idea of Satanism but is constantly coaxed by Vikki to enter the Dark realm. For Hyder, the journey of accepting or rejecting Satanism runs through the novel. The story embodies and explores the theoretical presence of Satanism in every society irrespective of race, creed and geography. The story also encompasses the natural beauty of Nigeria and the earthiness of the common Nigerian through Hyder and Maryam's son Harris and his relationships with his buddy Obiyara, friend Zainab, Zainab's mother Binta and his school teacher Malam Yakubu - all of whom become his family more than his real one. The Satanist is Sana Munir's first novel. She is an avid bookworm, is fond of traveling, reading and listening to biographies of celebrities and commonplace people alike, psychology and poetry. The Satanist is set in Nigeria, a place she remembers from her childhood.

From the first page, you find yourself in the place with the characters. They love and move in your imagination as though you know them.I hope the author best of luck and would love to read more from her.

We Didn't Know is a work of fiction, revealing the consequences which can occur when family members are estranged or don't even know they're related. Synopsis: So, you have family that isn't your blood and blood that doesn't act a bit like family. Typical wouldn't you say? Throughout our lives, we adopt many as our kin and treat them accordingly, while disowning our own blood and treating them like strangers. Our reasons, are our reasons, right or wrong. King Carter and Serenity Washington are two young adults, preparing to leave home for college who happen to meet by chance. King wasn't looking for a serious relationship and Serenity had recently broken up with her boyfriend of the past 5 years. Their attraction to one another however could be compared to a moth being drawn into a flame and before they know it, they're Dangerously In Love. Typical you might say. But what isn't so typical is the unknown brewing between the two which will burst at the seems when their parents, who are thought to have no prior knowledge of one another meet at a dinner planned by the two to announce their big news! Betrayal, secrets and lies, we've all had our fair share of them all. Those who say, "What you don't know can't hurt you," have obviously never been hurt by what they didn't know...

The suspense of what wasn’t known and who didn’t know it will leave you on the edge of your seat. I truly became entangled in the stories of both King and Serenity. However, nothing could prepare me for what was to come. The love story will leave you captivated. The betrayal will leave you enraged. The secrets will leave you perplexed; the revelation of what wasn’t known will leave you with your mouth wide open in disbelief. Marie Antoinette brings to light the importance of family and forgiveness. Once you have finished reading this phenomenal novel, you may find yourself in deep thought; you may find yourself wondering if this could actually happen to you too. Marie Antoinette totally destroys the saying that “what you don’t know can’t hurt you”. Quite the contrary, what you don’t know could be devastating!

"We Didn't Know" commanded my full attention from the first few pages. I was hoping to read at least a third of it before putting it down. I found this book to be so suspenseful to the point of wanting to put it down for a few seconds to look for someone on "TheBook." It's funny how a well written book is capable of pulling you into the pages as if you were truly one of the characters. I did not put this book down for good until I had read it in it's entirety!!! Oh What a Night!!! Why not treat yourself to ""We Didn't Know?" You deserve it!!!

By maureen Loved the different vignettes and love how Marie keeps pushing the boundaries but always staying real and never afraid to truly tell it like it is. Very different from her first and clearly shows how much she has expanded in her story telling. Highly recommend this book especially for other white folks like myself who truly want to understand what the true experience is growing up black under insurmontable odds and still face so many obstacles to this day.

In 1955, sisters Dolly and Jean are the proprietors of Star Café on Hoddle Street, inner city Melbourne. They are petticoat crooks who run an Sp book, sell sly grog to the local police, and fence jewellery – all from the café. While they agree wholeheartedly on their criminal activities they are at opposite ends in matters of the heart. Dolly is a compulsive flirt who drifts into a relationship with Carlos who also operates on the fringe of honesty. While on a holiday in 1953 Jean falls in love, but the outcome means keeping a lifelong secret. Jean's left with a deep desire for marriage and a family and is envious of Dolly. When their sister Heather visits she brings trouble and things change. The café becomes a burden. Arson is the only answer and it means a shared secret for Dolly and Jean. They leave Melbourne and start a new life in Brisbane. Jean is plagued by both secrets. Then there is a visit from the past and a terrible accident, and that's when their working relationship starts to disintegrate. But does this mean they each finally get what they've always wanted?

I loved the detail of the era, and especially loved Jean and Dolly's sister relationship. It was very genuine, and the intrigue of their criminal activities really added to the tale.
